NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to put him to the test they asked if he would show them asign from heaven.	1 Se le acercaron los fariseos y saduceos y, para ponerlo a prueba, le pidieron que les mostrase un signo del cielo.
2 He replied, 'In the evening you say, "It wil be fine; there's a red sky,"	2 Les contestó: «Al atardecer decís: “Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo está rojo”.
3 and in the morning, "Stormy weather today; the sky is red and overcast." You know how to read theface of the sky, but you cannot read the signs of the times.	3 Y a la mañana: “Hoy lloverá, porque el cielo está rojo oscuro”. ¿Sabéis distinguir el aspecto del cielo y no sois capaces de distinguir los signos de los tiempos?
4 It is an evil and unfaithful generation asking for a sign, and the only sign it wil be given is the sign ofJonah.' And he left them and went off.	4 Esta generación perversa y adúltera exige una señal; pues no se le dará más signo que el de Jonás». Y dejándolos se marchó.
5 The disciples, having crossed to the other side, had forgotten to take any food.	5 Al pasar a la otra orilla, a los discípulos se les había olvidado tomar pan.
6 Jesus said to them, 'Keep your eyes open, and be on your guard against the yeast of the Phariseesand Sadducees.'	6 Jesús les dijo: «Estad atentos y guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos».
7 And they said among themselves, 'It is because we have not brought any bread.'	7 Discutían entre ellos diciendo: «Es porque no hemos cogido panes».
8 Jesus knew it, and he said, 'You have so little faith, why are you talking among yourselves abouthaving no bread?	8 Dándose cuenta Jesús dijo: «¡Gente de poca fe!, ¿por qué andáis discutiendo entre vosotros que no tenéis panes?
9 Do you stil not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and thenumber of baskets you col ected?	9 ¿Aún no entendéis? ¿No os acordáis de los cinco panes para los cinco mil?, ¿cuántos cestos sobraron?
10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and the number of baskets you col ected?	10 ¿Ni de los siete panes para los cuatro mil?, ¿cuántas canastas sobraron?
11 How could you fail to understand that I was not talking about bread? What I said was: Beware of theyeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'	11 ¿Cómo no comprendéis que no me refería a los panes? Guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos».
12 Then they understood that he was tel ing them to be on their guard, not against yeast for makingbread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.	12 Entonces comprendieron que no hablaba de guardarse de la levadura del pan, sino de la enseñanza de los fariseos y saduceos.
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, 'Who dopeople say the Son of man is?'	13 Al llegar a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: «¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del hombre?».
14 And they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'	14 Ellos contestaron: «Unos que Juan el Bautista, otros que Elías, otros que Jeremías o uno de los profetas».
15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?'	15 Él les preguntó: «Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo?».
16 Then Simon Peter spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'	16 Simón Pedro tomó la palabra y dijo: «Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo del Dios vivo».
17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency thatrevealed this to you but my Father in heaven.	17 Jesús le respondió: «¡Bienaventurado tú, Simón, hijo de Jonás!, porque eso no te lo ha revelado ni la carne ni la sangre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos.
18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I wil build my community. And the gates of theunderworld can never overpower it.	18 Ahora yo te digo: tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia, y el poder del infierno no la derrotará.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound inheaven; whatever you loose on earth wil be loosed in heaven.'	19 Te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos; lo que ates en la tierra quedará atado en los cielos, y lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en los cielos».
20 Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to say to anyone that he was the Christ.	20 Y les mandó a los discípulos que no dijesen a nadie que él era el Mesías.
21 From then onwards Jesus began to make it clear to his disciples that he was destined to go toJerusalem and suffer grievously at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to deathand to be raised up on the third day.	21 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a manifestar a sus discípulos que tenía que ir a Jerusalén y padecer allí mucho por parte de los ancianos, sumos sacerdotes y escribas, y que tenía que ser ejecutado y resucitar al tercer día.
22 Then, taking him aside, Peter started to rebuke him. 'Heaven preserve you, Lord,' he said, 'this mustnot happen to you.'	22 Pedro se lo llevó aparte y se puso a increparlo: «¡Lejos de ti tal cosa, Señor! Eso no puede pasarte».
23 But he turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, becauseyou are thinking not as God thinks but as human beings do.'	23 Jesús se volvió y dijo a Pedro: «¡Ponte detrás de mí, Satanás! Eres para mí piedra de tropiezo, porque tú piensas como los hombres, no como Dios».
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himselfand take up his cross and follow me.	24 Entonces dijo a los discípulos: «Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, que se niegue a sí mismo, tome su cruz y me siga.
25 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.	25 Porque quien quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que la pierda por mí, la encontrará.
26 What, then, wil anyone gain by winning the whole world and forfeiting his life? Or what can anyoneoffer in exchange for his life?	26 ¿Pues de qué le servirá a un hombre ganar el mundo entero, si pierde su alma? ¿O qué podrá dar para recobrarla?
27 'For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he wilreward each one according to his behaviour.	27 Porque el Hijo del hombre vendrá, con la gloria de su Padre, entre sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno según su conducta.
28 In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the Son ofman coming with his kingdom.'	28 En verdad os digo que algunos de los aquí presentes no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean al Hijo del hombre en su reino».
