NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to put him to the test they asked if he would show them asign from heaven.	1 Gli si avvicinarono i farisei e i sadducei per metterlo alla prova, e chiesero che mostrasse loro un segno dal cielo.
2 He replied, 'In the evening you say, "It wil be fine; there's a red sky,"	2 Egli rispose: "Quando viene la sera dite: "Sarà bel tempo, poiché il cielo rosseggia";
3 and in the morning, "Stormy weather today; the sky is red and overcast." You know how to read theface of the sky, but you cannot read the signs of the times.	3 e la mattina: "Oggi ci sarà burrasca, poiché il cielo è rosso cupo". Sapete, sì, giudicare l'aspetto del cielo, ma non sapete discernere i segni dei tempi.
4 It is an evil and unfaithful generation asking for a sign, and the only sign it wil be given is the sign ofJonah.' And he left them and went off.	4 Generazione malvagia e spergiura! Chiede un segno; ebbene, le sarà dato, ma solo quello di Giona". E, lasciatili, se ne andò.
5 The disciples, having crossed to the other side, had forgotten to take any food.	5 I discepoli, giunti all'altra riva, si accorsero di non aver preso il pane.
6 Jesus said to them, 'Keep your eyes open, and be on your guard against the yeast of the Phariseesand Sadducees.'	6 Gesù disse loro: "Badate di tenervi lontano dal lievito dei farisei e dei sadducei".
7 And they said among themselves, 'It is because we have not brought any bread.'	7 Essi discutevano fra loro dicendo: "Già, non abbiamo preso il pane".
8 Jesus knew it, and he said, 'You have so little faith, why are you talking among yourselves abouthaving no bread?	8 Saputolo, Gesù disse: "Perché discutete fra voi, uomini di poca fede, per non aver preso il pane?
9 Do you stil not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and thenumber of baskets you col ected?	9 Non capite ancora? Vi siete dimenticati dei cinque pani che bastarono per i cinquemila uomini e delle sporte che raccoglieste?
10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and the number of baskets you col ected?	10 E dei sette pani con cui si sfamarono i quattromila e degli avanzi che raccoglieste?
11 How could you fail to understand that I was not talking about bread? What I said was: Beware of theyeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'	11 Come non capite che non per i pani vi ho detto: tenetevi lontano dal lievito dei farisei e dei sadducei?".
12 Then they understood that he was tel ing them to be on their guard, not against yeast for makingbread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.	12 Allora capirono che non intendeva parlare del lievito con cui si fa il pane, ma della dottrina dei farisei e dei sadducei.
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, 'Who dopeople say the Son of man is?'	13 Giunto poi Gesù nella regione di Cesarea di Filippo, si mise ad interrogare i suoi discepoli: "Chi dice la gente che sia il Figlio dell'uomo?".
14 And they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'	14 Essi risposero: "Chi dice che sia Giovanni il Battista, chi Elia, chi Geremia o uno dei profeti".
15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?'	15 Dice loro: "Ma voi chi dite che io sia?".
16 Then Simon Peter spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'	16 Prese la parola Simon Pietro e disse: "Tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio del Dio vivente".
17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency thatrevealed this to you but my Father in heaven.	17 Rispose Gesù: "Beato sei tu, Simone figlio di Giona, poiché né la carne né il sangue te l'hanno rivelato, ma il Padre mio che è nei cieli.
18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I wil build my community. And the gates of theunderworld can never overpower it.	18 Io ti dico: tu sei Pietro e su questa pietra edificherò la mia chiesa e le porte degli inferi non prevarranno contro di essa.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound inheaven; whatever you loose on earth wil be loosed in heaven.'	19 Ti darò le chiavi del regno dei cieli; tutto ciò che avrai legato sulla terra resterà legato nei cieli e tutto ciò che avrai sciolto sulla terra resterà sciolto nei cieli".
20 Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to say to anyone that he was the Christ.	20 Poi comandò ai discepoli di non dire a nessuno che egli era il Cristo.
21 From then onwards Jesus began to make it clear to his disciples that he was destined to go toJerusalem and suffer grievously at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to deathand to be raised up on the third day.	21 Da allora Gesù cominciò a dire chiaramente ai suoi discepoli che egli doveva andare a Gerusalemme e soffrire molto da parte degli anziani, sommi sacerdoti e scribi; inoltre che doveva essere messo a morte, ma che al terzo giorno sarebbe risorto.
22 Then, taking him aside, Peter started to rebuke him. 'Heaven preserve you, Lord,' he said, 'this mustnot happen to you.'	22 Allora Pietro lo prese in disparte e cercava di dissuaderlo dicendo: "Dio te ne guardi, Signore! Questo non ti accadrà mai".
23 But he turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, becauseyou are thinking not as God thinks but as human beings do.'	23 Ma egli, rivoltosi a Pietro, disse: "Va' via da me, satana! Tu mi sei di inciampo, poiché i tuoi sentimenti non sono quelli di Dio, ma quelli degli uomini".
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himselfand take up his cross and follow me.	24 Allora Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: "Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua.
25 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.	25 Poiché chi vuol salvare la propria vita la perderà; chi invece perderà la propria vita a causa mia, la troverà.
26 What, then, wil anyone gain by winning the whole world and forfeiting his life? Or what can anyoneoffer in exchange for his life?	26 Infatti, che giovamento avrà l'uomo se, avendo conquistato tutto il mondo, è danneggiato poi nella sua vita? Oppure, che cosa potrà dare l'uomo quale prezzo della sua vita?
27 'For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he wilreward each one according to his behaviour.	27 Infatti il Figlio dell'uomo verrà nella gloria del Padre suo insieme con i suoi angeli e allora darà a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta.
28 In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the Son ofman coming with his kingdom.'	28 In verità vi dico: fra voi qui presenti ci sono alcuni che non gusteranno la morte finché non avranno visto il Figlio dell'uomo venire con il suo regno".
