NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho, and said:	1 IL Signore parlò ancora a Mosè, nelle campagne di Moab, presso al Giordano di Gerico, dicendo:
2 'Order the Israelites, from the heritage they possess, to give the Levites towns in which to live andpasture land round the towns. You wil give these to the Levites.	2 Comanda a’ figliuoli d’Israele che dieno, della possessione della loro eredità, ai Leviti, delle città da abitare, e anche i contorni di esse città.
3 The towns must be their homes and the surrounding pasture land must be for their cattle, theirpossessions and all their animals.	3 Abbiano adunque le città per abitarvi; e sieno i contorni di esse per li lor bestiami, per le lor facoltà, e per tutte le lor bestie.
4 The pasture land surrounding the towns which you give to the Levites wil extend, from the wal s ofthe towns, for a thousand cubits al round.	4 E sieno i contorni delle città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, ciascuno di mille cubiti d’ogn’intorno, dalle mura della città in fuori.
5 'Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits to the east, two thousand cubits to the south, twothousand cubits to the west and two thousand cubits to the north, the town lying in the centre; such wil be thepasture lands of these towns.	5 Misurate adunque fuor della città duemila cubiti, per lo lato orientale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato meridionale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato occidentale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato settentrionale, e sia la città nel mezzo. Questo sia loro lo spazio de’ contorni di quelle città.
6 The towns you give to the Levites wil be six cities of refuge, ceded by you as sanctuary for those whocommit manslaughter; and you will give forty-two towns in addition.	6 E quant’è alle città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sienvi imprima le sei città di rifugio, le quali voi costituirete, acciocchè chi avrà ucciso alcuno vi si rifugga; e a quelle sopraggiugnetene quarantadue altre.
7 Altogether you wil give the Levites forty-eight towns, with their pasture lands.	7 Tutte le città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sieno quarantotto città, insieme co’ lor contorni.
8 Of the towns which you give from the Israelites' possessions, you wil give more from those who havemore, and less from those who have less. Each wil give some of his towns to the Levites, in proportion to theheritage he himself has received.'	8 E di queste città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, dell’eredità dei figliuoli d’Israele, datene più, della tribù che sarà più grande; e meno, di quella che sarà più piccola. Ciascuna tribù dia delle sue città a’ Leviti, a ragion della sua eredità ch’ella possederà
9 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	9 Poi il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
10 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Once you have crossed the Jordan into Canaan,	10 Parla a’ figliuoli d’Israele, e di’ loro: Quando voi sarete passati il Giordano, e sarete entrati nel paese di Canaan,
11 you wil find towns, some of which you wil make into cities of refuge where those who haveaccidental y committed manslaughter can take sanctuary.	11 assegnate fra voi delle città di rifugio, nelle quali l’ucciditore, che avrà percossa a morte alcuna persona disavvedutamente, si rifugga.
12 These towns wil afford you refuge from the avenger of blood, so that the kil er will not be put todeath before standing trial before the community.	12 E quelle città vi saranno per rifugio d’innanzi a colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue; acciocchè l’ucciditore non muoia, finchè non sia comparito in giudicio davanti alla raunanza.
13 Of the towns you give, six wil serve you as cities of refuge:	13 Di quelle città adunque, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sienvene sei di rifugio.
14 as cities of refuge, you wil give three towns on the other side of the Jordan and wil give three townsin Canaan.	14 Assegnate tre di quelle città di qua dal Giordano; e tre altre, nel paese di Canaan, per esser città di rifugio.
15 These six towns wil serve as refuge for the Israelites, for the foreigner and for the resident alien,where anyone who has accidental y kil ed someone can take sanctuary.	15 Sieno queste sei città per rifugio, a’ figliuoli d’Israele, a’ forestieri, e agli avveniticci che saranno fra loro; acciocchè vi si rifugga chiunque avrà percossa a morte alcuna persona disavvedutamente.
16 "But if he has struck the person with an iron object so as to cause death, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.	16 Ora, se alcuno percuote un altro con alcuno strumento di ferro, colui è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
17 If he has struck him with a stone meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.	17 Parimente, se lo percuote con una pietra da mano della qual possa morire, ed esso muore, egli è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
18 Or if he has struck him with a wooden instrument meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is amurderer. The murderer will be put to death.	18 Simigliantemente, se lo percuote con uno strumento di legno da mano, del quale egli possa morire, ed esso muore, egli è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
19 The avenger of blood wil put the murderer to death. Whenever he finds him, he wil put him todeath.	19 Colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue faccia morire quel micidiale; quando lo scontrerà egli stesso lo potrà uccidere.
20 "If the killer has maliciously manhandled his victim, or thrown some lethal missile to strike him down,	20 Così ancora se lo spinge per odio, o gli gitta contro alcuna cosa apposta, onde sia morto;
21 or out of enmity dealt him the death-blow with his fist, then he who struck the blow wil be put todeath; he is a murderer; the avenger of blood wil put him to death whenever he finds him.	21 ovvero per nimicizia lo percuote con la mano, ed esso muore, del tutto sia il percotitore fatto morire; egli è micidiale; colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue potrà uccidere quel micidiale, quando lo scontrerà.
22 If, however, he has manhandled his victim by chance, without malice, or thrown some missile at himnot meaning to hit him	22 Ma, s’egli lo spinge, o gli gitta contro impensatamente, senza nimicizia, qualche strumento, ma non apposta;
23 or, without seeing him, dropped on him a stone meant for kil ing and so kil ed him, so long as hebore him no malice and wished him no harm,	23 ovvero, senza averlo veduto, gli fa cadere addosso alcuna pietra, della quale egli possa morire, ed esso muore, senza che gli fosse nimico, o procacciasse il suo male;
24 then the community will decide in accordance with these rules between the one who struck the blowand the avenger of blood,	24 allora giudichi la raunanza fra il percotitore, e colui che ha la ragion di vendicare il sangue, secondo queste leggi;
25 and wil save the kil er from the clutches of the avenger of blood. They will send him back to the cityof refuge where he had taken sanctuary, and there he wil stay until the death of the high priest who has beenanointed with the holy oil.	25 e riscuota l’ucciditore dalle mani di colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue, e faccialo ritornare alla città del suo rifugio, ove si era rifuggito; e dimori egli quivi, fino alla morte del sommo Sacerdote, il qual sarà stato unto con l’olio santo.
26 Should the kil er leave the bounds of the city of refuge in which he has taken sanctuary	26 Ma, se pur l’ucciditore esce fuor de’ confini della città del suo rifugio, ove egli si sarà rifuggito;
27 and the avenger of blood encounter him outside the bounds of his city of refuge, the avenger ofblood may kil him without fear of reprisal;	27 e colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue, trovandolo fuor de’ confini della città del suo rifugio, l’uccide; egli non è colpevole d’omicidio.
28 since the kil er should stay in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the deathof the high priest is he free to go back to his own piece of property.	28 Perciocchè colui ha da star nella città del suo rifugio, fino alla morte del sommo Sacerdote; e dopo la morte del sommo Sacerdote, l’ucciditore potrà ritornare alla terra della sua possessione.
29 Such wil be the legal rule for you and your descendants, wherever you may live.	29 Sienvi adunque queste cose per istatuto di legge, per le vostre generazioni, in tutte le vostre stanze.
30 "In any case of homicide, the evidence of witnesses wil determine whether the kil er must be put todeath; but a single witness is not enough to sustain a capital charge.	30 Quando alcuno avrà percossa a morte una persona, sia quel micidiale ucciso, in sul dire di più testimoni; ma non possa un solo testimonio render testimonianza contro a una persona a morte.
31 You wil not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer condemned to death; he must die.	31 E non prendete prezzo di riscatto per la vita dell’ucciditore, il quale è colpevole, e degno di morte; anzi del tutto sia fatto morire.
32 Nor wil you accept a ransom for anyone who, having taken sanctuary in his city or refuge, wishes tocome back and live at home before the death of the high priest.	32 Parimente non prendete alcun prezzo, per lasciar rifuggire alcuno alla città del suo rifugio; nè per ritornare a dimorar nel paese avanti la morte del Sacerdote.
33 Do not profane the country you live in. Blood profanes the country and, for the country, the onlyexpiation for the blood shed in it is the blood of the man who shed it.	33 E non profanate il paese, nel quale voi abiterete; conciossiachè il sangue profani il paese; e il paese non può esser purgato del sangue, che sarà stato sparso in esso, se non col sangue di chi l’avrà sparso.
34 So do not defile the country which you live in and where I live; for I, Yahweh, live among theIsraelites." '	34 Non profanate adunque il paese, nel quale voi dimorerete, in mezzo del quale io abiterò; perciocchè io sono il Signore, che abito per mezzo i figliuoli d’Israele
