NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho, and said:	1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés en las Estepas de Moab, cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó, y le dijo:
2 'Order the Israelites, from the heritage they possess, to give the Levites towns in which to live andpasture land round the towns. You wil give these to the Levites.	2 «Manda a los israelitas que cedan a los levitas, de la herencia que les pertenece, ciudades en las que puedan habitar y pastos de alrededor de las ciudades. Se las daréis a los levitas.
3 The towns must be their homes and the surrounding pasture land must be for their cattle, theirpossessions and all their animals.	3 Esas ciudades serán su morada, y sus pastos serán para sus bestias, su ganado y todos sus animales.
4 The pasture land surrounding the towns which you give to the Levites wil extend, from the wal s ofthe towns, for a thousand cubits al round.	4 Los pastos de las ciudades que cedáis a los levitas comprenderán mil codos alrededor de la ciudad, a contar desde las murallas.
5 'Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits to the east, two thousand cubits to the south, twothousand cubits to the west and two thousand cubits to the north, the town lying in the centre; such wil be thepasture lands of these towns.	5 Mediréis, fuera de la ciudad, 2000 codos a oriente, 2000 codos a mediodía, 2000 codos a occidente y 2000 codos al norte, teniendo la ciudad como centro. Estos serán los pastos de las ciudades.
6 The towns you give to the Levites wil be six cities of refuge, ceded by you as sanctuary for those whocommit manslaughter; and you will give forty-two towns in addition.	6 Las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán las seis de asilo, que cederéis para que se pueda refugiar en ellas el homicida, y además les daréis otras 42 ciudades.
7 Altogether you wil give the Levites forty-eight towns, with their pasture lands.	7 El total de ciudades que daréis a los levitas será 48 ciudades, todas ellas con sus pastos.
8 Of the towns which you give from the Israelites' possessions, you wil give more from those who havemore, and less from those who have less. Each wil give some of his towns to the Levites, in proportion to theheritage he himself has received.'	8 Estas ciudades que cederéis de la propiedad de los israelitas, las tomaréis en mayor número del grande y en menor del pequeño; cada uno cederá ciudades a los levitas en proporción a la herencia que le haya tocado.»
9 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	9 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:
10 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Once you have crossed the Jordan into Canaan,	10 «Habla a los israelitas y diles: Cuando paséis el Jordán hacia la tierra de Canaán,
11 you wil find towns, some of which you wil make into cities of refuge where those who haveaccidental y committed manslaughter can take sanctuary.	11 encontraréis ciudades de las que haréis ciudades de asilo: en ellas se refugiará el homicida, el que ha herido a un hombre por inadvertencia.
12 These towns wil afford you refuge from the avenger of blood, so that the kil er will not be put todeath before standing trial before the community.	12 Esas ciudades os servirán de asilo contra el vengador; no debe morir el homicida hasta que comparezca ante la comunidad para ser juzgado.
13 Of the towns you give, six wil serve you as cities of refuge:	13 De las ciudades que les cedáis, seis ciudades serán de asilo:
14 as cities of refuge, you wil give three towns on the other side of the Jordan and wil give three townsin Canaan.	14 tres ciudades les cederéis al otro lado del Jordán y tres ciudades en el país de Canaán; serán ciudades de asilo.
15 These six towns wil serve as refuge for the Israelites, for the foreigner and for the resident alien,where anyone who has accidental y kil ed someone can take sanctuary.	15 Las seis ciudades serán de asilo tanto para los israelitas como para el forastero y para el huésped que viven en medio de vosotros, para que se pueda refugiar en ellas todo aquel que haya matado a un hombre por inadvertencia.
16 "But if he has struck the person with an iron object so as to cause death, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.	16 Pero si le ha herido con un instrumento de hierro, y muere, es un homicida. El homicida debe morir.
17 If he has struck him with a stone meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.	17 Si le hiere con una piedra como para causar la muerte con ella, y muere, es homicida. El homicida debe morir.
18 Or if he has struck him with a wooden instrument meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is amurderer. The murderer will be put to death.	18 Si le hiere con un instrumento de madera como para matarle, y muere, es un homicida. El homicida debe morir.
19 The avenger of blood wil put the murderer to death. Whenever he finds him, he wil put him todeath.	19 El mismo vengador de la sangre dará muerte al homicida: en cuanto le encuentre, lo matará.
20 "If the killer has maliciously manhandled his victim, or thrown some lethal missile to strike him down,	20 Si el homicida lo ha matado por odio, o le ha lanzado algo con intención, y muere,
21 or out of enmity dealt him the death-blow with his fist, then he who struck the blow wil be put todeath; he is a murderer; the avenger of blood wil put him to death whenever he finds him.	21 o si por enemistad le ha golpeado con las manos, y muere, el que le ha herido tiene que morir: es un homicida. El vengador de la sangre dará muerte al homicida en cuanto le encuentre.
22 If, however, he has manhandled his victim by chance, without malice, or thrown some missile at himnot meaning to hit him	22 Pero si lo derribó de casualidad y sin enemistad, o le lanzó cualquier objeto sin ninguna mala intención,
23 or, without seeing him, dropped on him a stone meant for kil ing and so kil ed him, so long as hebore him no malice and wished him no harm,	23 o le tiró, sin verle, una piedra capaz de matarle, y le causó la muerte, sin que fuera su enemigo ni buscara su daño,
24 then the community will decide in accordance with these rules between the one who struck the blowand the avenger of blood,	24 la comunidad juzgará entre el homicida y el vengador de la sangre según estas normas,
25 and wil save the kil er from the clutches of the avenger of blood. They will send him back to the cityof refuge where he had taken sanctuary, and there he wil stay until the death of the high priest who has beenanointed with the holy oil.	25 y salvará la comunidad al homicida de la mano del vengador de la sangre. Le hará volver la comunidad a la ciudad de asilo en la que se refugió y en ella vivirá hasta que muera el Sumo Sacerdote ungido con el óleo santo.
26 Should the kil er leave the bounds of the city of refuge in which he has taken sanctuary	26 Pero si sale el homicida de los límites de la ciudad de asilo en que se ha refugiado,
27 and the avenger of blood encounter him outside the bounds of his city of refuge, the avenger ofblood may kil him without fear of reprisal;	27 y le encuentra el vengador de la sangre fuera del término de su ciudad de asilo, el vengador de la sangre podrá matar al homicida, sin ser responsable de su sangre,
28 since the kil er should stay in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the deathof the high priest is he free to go back to his own piece of property.	28 porque aquél debía permanecer en la ciudad de asilo hasta la muerte del Sumo Sacerdote. Cuando muera el Sumo Sacerdote, el homicida podrá volver a la tierra de su propiedad.
29 Such wil be the legal rule for you and your descendants, wherever you may live.	29 Esto será norma de derecho para vosotros y para vuestros descendientes, dondequiera que habitéis.
30 "In any case of homicide, the evidence of witnesses wil determine whether the kil er must be put todeath; but a single witness is not enough to sustain a capital charge.	30 En cualquier caso de homicidio, se matará al homicida según la declaración de los testigos; pero un solo testigo no bastará para condenar a muerte a un hombre.
31 You wil not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer condemned to death; he must die.	31 No aceptaréis rescate por la vida de un homicida reo de muerte, pues debe morir.
32 Nor wil you accept a ransom for anyone who, having taken sanctuary in his city or refuge, wishes tocome back and live at home before the death of the high priest.	32 Tampoco aceptaréis rescate por el que se ha refugiado en la ciudad de asilo y quiere volver a habitar en su tierra antes que muera el Sumo Sacerdote.
33 Do not profane the country you live in. Blood profanes the country and, for the country, the onlyexpiation for the blood shed in it is the blood of the man who shed it.	33 No profanaréis la tierra en que estáis, porque aquella sangre profana la tierra, y la tierra no queda expiada de la sangre derramada más que con la sangre del que la derramó.
34 So do not defile the country which you live in and where I live; for I, Yahweh, live among theIsraelites." '	34 No harás impura la tierra en que habitáis, porque yo habito en medio de ella, pues yo, Yahveh, tengo mi morada entre los israelitas.
