Jonah 4

1 This made Jonah very indignant; he fell into a rage.	1 Jonas ficou muito aborrecido com isto e fortemente irritado.
2 He prayed to Yahweh and said, 'Please, Yahweh, isn't this what I said would happen when I was stil inmy own country? That was why I first tried to flee to Tarshish, since I knew you were a tender, compassionateGod, slow to anger, rich in faithful love, who relents about inflicting disaster.	2 Orou ao Senhor nestes termos: Ah! Senhor! Porventura não é isto o que eu dizia, quando ainda estava na minha terra? Por isso é que procurei fugir para Tarsis, porque sabia que és um Deus clemente e misericordioso, paciente e cheio de bondade, e que te arrependes do mal (ou castigo anunciado).
3 So now, Yahweh, please take my life, for I might as wel be dead as go on living.'	3 Eu pois te rogo. Senhor, que tires agora a minha alma do meu corpo, porque é melhor para mim a morte que a vida.
4 Yahweh replied, 'Are you right to be angry?'	4 O Senhor disse-lhe: Julgas que tens razão para te afligires assim?
5 Jonah then left the city and sat down to the east of the city. There he made himself a shelter and satunder it in the shade, to see what would happen to the city.	5 Jonas saiu da cidade e sentou-se ao oriente da mesma cidade; ali fez para si uma cabana, e debaixo dela repousava à sombra, para ver o que aconteceria na cidade.
6 Yahweh God then ordained that a castor-oil plant should grow up over Jonah to give shade for his headand soothe his ill-humour; Jonah was delighted with the castor-oil plant.	6 O Senhor Deus fez nascer um rícino que se levantou por cima da cabeça de Jonas, para fazer sombra: à sua cabeça e o livrar da sua má disposição; e Jonas, por aquele rícino ficou cheio de grande alegria.
7 But at dawn the next day, God ordained that a worm should attack the castor-oil plant -- and it withered.	7 Ao outro dia, porém, ao romper da manhã, enviou Deus um bicho, que roeu as raízes ao rícino, e ele secou.
8 Next, when the sun rose, God ordained that there should be a scorching east wind; the sun beat downso hard on Jonah's head that he was overcome and begged for death, saying, 'I might as wel be dead as go onliving.'	8 Quando o sol apareceu, o Senhor mandou um vento quente do oriente, e deram os raios de sol na cabeça a Jonas, de forma que ele, desfalecido, desejou a morte e disse: Melhor é para mim morrer do que viver.
9 God said to Jonah, 'Are you right to be angry about the castor-oil plant?' He replied, 'I have every rightto be angry, mortally angry!'	9 Então o Senhor disse a Jonas: Julgas tu que tens razão para te enfadares por causa do rícino? Jonas respondeu-lhe: Tenho razão de me enfadar até ao ponto de desejar a morte.
10 Yahweh replied, 'You are concerned for the castor-oil plant which has not cost you any effort andwhich you did not grow, which came up in a night and has perished in a night.	10 Disse pois o Senhor: Sentes pena dum rícino que te não custou trabalho algum, que não fizeste crescer, que nasceu numa noite e numa noite feneceu;
11 So why should I not be concerned for Nineveh, the great city, in which there are more than a hundredand twenty thousand people who cannot tel their right hand from their left, to say nothing of al the animals?'	11 e então não hei-de compadecer-me de Nínive, a grande cidade onde há mais de cento e vinte mil pessoas, que não sabem discernir entre a sua mão direita e a sua mão esquerda, e um grande número de animais?
