Hosea 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 Alle parole d'Efraim lo spavento invase Israele, e peccò in Baal e morì.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 Ed ora hanno aggiunto peccato a peccato, e col loro argento si son fatte statue di getto, figure d'idoli. Tutto ciò è lavoro di artefici, e riguardo ad essi dicono: « Immolate uomini, voi che adorate i vitelli ».
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Per questo saranno come nuvola mattutina, come la rugiada del mattino, che sparisce, come polvere rapita dall'aia per mezzo del turbine, come fumo che esce dal camino.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Ma io sono il Signore tuo Dio fin dalla terra d'Egitto: tu non conoscerai altro Dio fuori di me e fuori di me non v'è salvatore.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Io ti conobbi nel deserto, nella terra di solitudine,
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 in proporzione delle loro pasture si son ripieni, si son saziati, ed hanno gonfiato il loro cuore e si son dimenticati di me.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Ma io sarò per loro come una leonessa, come un leopardo sulla via degli Assiri.
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 Andrò contro di loro come orsa privata dei suoi piccoli, e sbranerò le loro interiora fino al cuore; ivi li divorerò come un leone e le bestie della campagna li faranno in brandelli.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 La tua rovina (dipende da te), o Israele, e da mi soltanto (viene) il tuo aiuto.
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 Dov'è il tuo re? Ora specialmente dovrebbe salvarti in tutte le tue città. Così i tuoi giudici, riguardo ai quali dicesti: « Dammi un re e dei principi ».
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 Ti darò un re nel mio sdegno, te lo ritorrò nella mia indignazione.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 Le iniquità di Efraim son legate insieme, i suoi peccati son conservati in luogo nascosto:
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 dolori come quelli d'una partoriente lo sorprenderanno. Egli è un figliolo privo di saggezza, ed ora non potrà sussistere nella strage dei figli.
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 Io li salverò dal potere della morte, io li riscatterò dalla morte. Io sarò la tua morte, o morte, io sarò la tua rovina, o inferno: i miei occhi non vedono consolazione.
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Perchè egli dividerà tra i fratelli. Ma il Signore manderà un vento infocato che salirà dal deserto e seccherà le sue sorgenti, e desolerà le sue fonti. Egli porterà via il tesoro d'ogni vaso prezioso.
