Hosea 13

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 Cuando hablaba Efraím cundía el terror, él se había encumbrado en Israel, pero se hizo culpable a causa de Baal y murió.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 Ahora siguen pecando: se fabrican estatuas de metal fundido, hacen con su plata ídolos de su invención. ¡Obra de artesanos es todo eso! Luego dicen: «Ofrézcanles sacrificios». ¡Hombres besan a terneros!
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Por eso serán como nube de la mañana, como rocío que pronto se disipa, como paja aventada lejos de la era, como humo que sale por la ventana.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Pero yo soy el Señor, tu Dios, desde el país de Egipto: no conoces a otro Dios más que a mí, y fuera de mí no hay salvador.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Yo te conocí en el desierto, en la tierra de la aridez.
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 Al llegar a sus campos de pastoreo, ellos se saciaron; y una vez saciados, se enorgulleció su corazón;: por eso se olvidaron de mí.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Yo seré para ellos como un león, como un leopardo estaré al acecho junto al camino;
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 los atacaré como una osa privada de su cría, desgarraré las fibras de su corazón, los devoraré allí mismo como una leona, y las fieras los destrozarán.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 ¡Ahí estás maltrecho, Israel! ¿Quién podrá socorrerte?
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 ¿Dónde está tu rey, para salvarte, y tus jueces, para defenderte, aquellos de los que decías: «Dame un rey y príncipes»?
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 En mi ira, yo te di un rey y en mi furor, te lo quitaré.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 La iniquidad de Efraím está guardada bajo sello, su pecado, escondido en lugar seguro.
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 Llegan los dolores del parto para que él nazca, pero es un hijo que no se da maña: ¡llegada la hora, no atina a salir del seno materno!
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 ¿Y yo voy a rescatarlos del poder del Abismo? ¿Voy a redimirlos de la muerte? ¿Dónde está, Muerte, tu pestilencia? ¿Dónde están tus plagas, Abismo? La compasión se oculta a mis ojos.
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Por más que Efraím prosperes entre sus hermanos, llegará el viento del este, el soplo del Señor, que sube del desierto, y se agotará su fuente, se secará su manantial. El despojará el tesoro de todos los objetos preciosos.
