Hosea 13

1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 Alle parole di Ephraim s'intimidi Israele, e peccò onorando Baal, e perì.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 E adesso hanno aggiunto peccato a peccato, e del loro argento hanno fatte di getto figure d'idoli: tutto è lavoro di artefici: riguardo ad essi, dicon costoro: Voi, che adorate i vitelli, immolate degli uomini.
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Per questo saranno essi come una nuvola sul far del giorno, e come la rugiada della mattina, la quale sparisce, e come la polvere, che un turbine alza dall'aia, e come fumo, che esce da un camino.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Io però fin dalla terra di Egitto sono il Signore Dio tuo; e altro Dio non conoscerai fuori di me; e non v'ha Salvatore fuori di me.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Ed ebbi cura di te nel deserto, nella terra di solitudine.
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 Presso alle loro pasture si son ripieni, e si son satollati, e in cuor loro s'inalberarono, e si scordaron di me.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Ed io sarò per essi qual lionessa, e qual leopardo sulla strada, che mena in Assiria.
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 Anderò loro incontro come orsa, cui siano stati rapiti i suoi parti, e sbranerò fino al cuore le loro interiora: ed ivi li divorerò qual lione, e le fiere gli strazieranno.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 La perdizione è da te, o Israele: da me solo il tuo soccorso.
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 Dov'è il tuo re? adesso è il tempo, che te, e le tue città salvi egli, e i tuoi giudici; perocché tu dicesti: Dammi un re, e de' principi.
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 Ti diedi un re nel mio furore; e nell'ira mia tel riterrò.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 Ho messe insieme le iniquità di Ephraim, i suoi peccati son custoditi in luogo nascosto.
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 Lo sorprenderanno i dolori, come una partoriente: egli è un figliuolo non saggio: ei non si sosterrà adesso nella strage de' figli.
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 Io li salverò dal poter della morte; li riscatterò dalla morte: o morte, io sarò la tua morte: tuo strazio sarò io, o inferno: i miei occhi non veggono consolazione.
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Perocché egli divide tra loro i fratelli. Il Signore manderà un vento ardente, che si leverà dal deserto, e asciugherà le sue sorgenti, e seccherà le sue fontane. Egli farà preda del tesoro di tutti i vasi preziosi.
