Hosea 13

1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 - Quando Efraim parlava, era un terrore; egli invase Israele, ma s'è dato a delinquere con Baal ed è morto.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 E ancora continuano a peccare; si sono fatti delle statue di getto del loro argento, rappresentanti idoli, tutto lavoro di artefici; a questi essi dicono: - Sacrificate, o uomini, e mandate baci ai vitelli! -
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Per questo saranno come la nebbia mattutina, come la rugiada antelucana che scompare, come la pula travolta col vento dall'aria, come il fumo dal camino.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Io sono il Signore Iddio tuo dalla terra d'Egitto, e fuori di me, non riconoscerai altro Dio e non c'è salvatore fuor di me.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Io ti ho conosciuto nel deserto, in quella terra di solitudine.
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 Avendo da pascersi a lor voglia, si saziarono; si saziavano ed il loro cuore si inalzò e di me si dimenticarono.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Ma io sarò loro come una leonessa, come un leopardo sulla via di Assur.
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 Mi avventerò loro, come un'orsa orbata dei suoi nati, e squarcerò i loro precordii e quivi me li divorerò come leone; le fiere della campagna li faranno a brani.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 Tu sei la tua rovina, o Israele, perchè soltanto in me sta il tuo aiuto.
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 Dov'è il tuo re? Ebbene, ti porti ora la salvezza in tutte le città! E dove i tuoi giudici, dei quali avevi detto: - Dammi un re e dei principi ?-
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 Ti darò un re nella mia collera e te lo toglierò nel mio furore.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 Il delitto di Efraim è avviluppato e il suo peccato nascosto.
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 Gli verranno le doglie della partoriente, ma egli è un figlio non savio; perchè, giunta l'ora, non spunterà nulla al rompere del parto.
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 Di mano agli Inferi li libererò, li riscatterò dalla morte. Sarò la tua morte, o morte! Sarò il tuo morso, o Inferno! La consolazione è sottratta agli occhi miei!
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Perchè mentre egli ramifica tra i suoi fratelli, il Signore farà venire il vento caldo dal deserto; e seccherà la sua fonte, e asciugherà le sue scaturigini; esso porterà via un tesoro di oggetti preziosi d'ogni sorta.
