Hosea 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When Ephraim used to speak, all trembled; he was a power in Israel; but once he had incurred guiltwith Baal, he died.	1 Cuando hablaba Efraím, cundía el terror, se había impuesto en Israel, pero se hizo culpable con Baal y murió.
2 And now they compound their sins by casting images for themselves out of their silver, idols of theirown invention, the work of craftsmen, al of it! 'Sacrifice to them,' they say! Men bestow kisses to calves!	2 Y todavía continúan pecando: se han hecho imágenes fundidas, con su plata, ídolos de su invención: ¡obra de artesanos todo ello! ¡Con ellos hablan los que sacrifican hombres que envían besos a becerros!
3 That is why they will be like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears, like the chaff whirledfrom the threshing-floor, like smoke escaping through the window.	3 Por eso serán como nube mañanera, como rocío matinal que pasa, como paja aventada de la era, como humo por la ventana.
4 But I have been Yahweh your God since your days in Egypt when you knew no god but me, since youhad no one else to save you.	4 Pero yo soy Yahveh, tu Dios, desde el país de Egipto. No conoces otro Dios fuera de mí, ni hay más salvador que yo.
5 I cared for you in the desert, in the land of dreadful drought.	5 Yo te conocí en el desierto, en la tierra ardorosa.
6 I pastured them, and they were satisfied; once satisfied, their hearts grew proud, and therefore theyforgot me.	6 Cuando estaban en su pasto se saciaron, se saciaron y se engrió su corazón, por eso se olvidaron de mí.
7 So now I shal be like a lion to them, like a leopard I shall lurk beside the road,	7 Pues yo seré para ellos cual león, como leopardo en el camino acecharé.
8 like a bear robbed of her cubs I shal meet them and rend the membrane of their heart, and there likea lioness I shall eat them, like a wild beast tear them to shreds.	8 Caeré sobre ellos como osa privada de sus cachorros, desgarraré las telas de su corazón, los devoraré allí mismo cual leona, la bestia del campo los despedazará.
9 Israel, you have destroyed yourself though in me lies your help.	9 Tu destrucción ha sido, Israel, porque sólo en mí estaba tu socorro.
10 Your king, where is he now, to save you, or the governors in al your cities? - whom you oncepleaded for, saying, 'Give me a king and princes!'	10 ¿Dónde está, pues, tu rey, para que te salve, y en todas tus ciudades tus jueces? aquellos de quienes tú decías: «Dame rey y príncipes».
11 In my anger I gave you a king and in my wrath I have taken him away.	11 Rey en mi cólera te doy, y te lo quito en mi furor.
12 Ephraim's guilt is packed away, his sin is locked up.	12 Encerrada está la culpa de Efraím, bien guardado su pecado.
13 Pangs as of childbirth overtake him, and a stupid child he is; his time is due, but he does not leavethe womb.	13 Dolores de parturienta le asaltan, pero él es un hijo necio que no se presenta a tiempo por donde rompen los hijos.
14 Shall I save them from the clutches of Sheol? Shal I buy them back from Death? Where are yourplagues, Death? Where are your scourges, Sheol? Compassion wil be banished from my sight!	14 ¿De la garra del seol los libraré, de la muerte los rescataré? ¿Dónde están, muerte, tus pestes, dónde tu contagio, seol? La compasión está oculta a mis ojos.
15 Though Ephraim bears more fruit than his brothers, the wind from the East wil come, Yahweh'sbreath blowing up from the desert to dry his spring, to dry up his fountain, to strip his treasury of everything worthhaving.	15 Aunque Efraím dé fruto entre sus hermanos, el solano llegará, el viento de Yahveh subirá del desierto, para que se seque su manantial, y se agote su fuente; él arrebatará el tesoro de todos los objetos preciosos.
