Daniel 6

1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 Piacque a Dario di stabilire sopra il regno centoventi satrapi, che dovevano stare in tutte le parti del regno;
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 e tre principi sopra i satrapi dei quali uno era Daniele, e ai quali dovevan render conto i satrapi, senza che il re ne fosse inquietato.
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 Or Daniele era sopra tutti i principi e i satrapi, perchè in lui più spiccava lo spirito di Dio;
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 ma siccome il re pensava di dargli l'autorità sopra tutto il regno, i principi e i satrapi cercarono come accusare Daniele davanti al re, e non trovando in lui nè appiglio nè sospetto, perchè egli era fedele e non era possibile trovare in lui colpa o sospetto,
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 dissero: « Noi non potremo trovare come accusare questo Daniele, se non forse nella legge del suo Dio ».
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Allora i principi e i satrapi, tramando un inganno al re, così gli dissero: « O re Dario, vivi in eterno!
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Tutti i principi del tuo regno, i magistrati, i satrapi, i senatori, i giudici, son di parere che esca un decreto imperiale, quest'editto: Chiunque domanderà per trenta giorni, qualche cosa a qualunque dio o uomo, fuori che a te, o re, sia gettato nella fossa dei leoni.
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Or dunque, o re, conferma questo parere, e scrivi il decreto e tale che sia immutabile, secondo la legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, e nessuno possa trasgredirlo ».
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 Il re Dario pubblicò è firmò l'editto.
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 Daniele, saputa questa cosa, che cioè era stata fatta tal legge, se ne andò a casa sua, e aperta la finestra del suo cenacolo, che guardava verso Gerusalemme, per tre volte al giorno, in ginocchio, adorava e ringraziava il suo Dio, come fin allora era solito di fare.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Or quegli uomini, i quali stavano più che attenti, trovato Daniele a pregare e a supplicare il suo Dio,
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 andarono dal re, e gli rammentarono l'editto, dicendo: « O re, non hai tu ordinato che qualunque persona, se per trenta giorni, facesse preghiere ad alcuno degli dèi o degli uomini, fuori che a te, o re, fosse gettato nella fossa dei leoni? » Rispondendo ad essi il re disse: « La cosa è vera, e secondo la legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che non può essere violata ».
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Allora quelli, presa la parola, dissero al re: « Daniele, degli esuli figli di Giuda, non ha fatto caso della tua legge, nè dell'editto da te firmato, e tre volte al giorno fa la sua preghiera ».
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 Sentite queste parole, il re ne rimase molto afflitto, e, accorandosi per Daniele, fino al tramonto del sole si affannò per liberarlo.
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 Ma quelli, avendo compreso l'animo del re, gli dissero: « Sappi, o re, che, secondo la legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, qualunque decreto fatto dal re è immutabile ».
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Allora il re diede l'ordine, e Daniele fu condotto e gettato nella fossa dei leoni. Il re disse a Daniele: « Il tuo Dio, da te sempre venerato, egli ti salverà ».
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 Fatta portare una pietra e fattala porre sopra la bocca della fossa, il re la sigillò col suo anello e coll'anello dei suoi cortigiani, affinchè nulla fosse fatto contro Daniele.
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 Il re se no tornò a casa sua, andò a dormire senza cena, e non fu messo alcun cibo davanti a lui, e di più non potè prender sonno.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 Al primo albeggiare s'alzò e corse alla fossa dei leoni.
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 Appena fu vicino alla fossa, chiamò Daniele con voce di pianto, e così gli parlò: « Daniele, servo di Dio vivo, il tuo Dio a cui tu sempre servi t'ha potuto liberare dai leoni? »
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 E Daniele, rispondenno al re, disse: « O re, vivi in eterno!
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Il mio Dio ha mandato il suo angelo, il quale ha chiuse le bocche dei leoni, che non mi han fatto alcun male, perchè io son stato trovato giusto dinanzi a lui, ed anche verso di te, o re, io non ho commesso delitto alcuno ».
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Allora il re, ricolmo di gioia per quanto era avvenuto a Daniele, ordinò che Daniele fosse tratto fuori dalla fossa. Daniele fu tratto fuori e non fu vista in lui lesione alcuna, perchè ebbe fede nel suo Dio.
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 Allora per comando del re furori condotti coloro che avevano accusato Daniele, e furon gettati nella fossa dei leoni, essi, i figli e le mogli loro; prima di arrivare al fondo della fossa furon presi dai leoni, che ne stritolaron tutte le ossa.
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 Allora Dario scrisse a tutti i popoli, tribù e lingue che abitavano per tutta la terra: « La pace vi sia donata in abbondanza!
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 E' stato da me decretato che in tutto quanto il mio regno si tema e si tremi davanti al Dio di Daniele, perchè Egli è il Dio vivo, ed eterno nei secoli; il suo regno non sarà mai distrutto, il suo dominio dura in eterno.
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Egli è il Liberatore, il Salvatore; Egli fa segni e prodigi in cielo e in terra; Egli ha liberato Daniele dalla fossa dei leoni ».
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 Daniele seguitò ad essere in onore per tutto il tempo del regno di Dario, e nel regno di Ciro Persiano.
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
