Daniel 6

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 e Dario il Medo ricevette il regno all'età di sessantadue anni.
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 Piacque a Dario di porre alla direzione del regno centoventi satrapi, perché sovrintendessero a tutto il regno,
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 e sopra di loro tre alti funzionari, di cui uno era Daniele, ai quali quei satrapi dovevano render conto, cosicché il re non fosse importunato.
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 Ora, poiché il nostro Daniele eccelleva sopra gli alti funzionari e i satrapi, essendo in lui uno spirito superiore, il re decise di affidargli il governo di tutto il regno.
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 Allora gli alti funzionari e i satrapi cercarono un motivo per accusare Daniele sul suo governo del regno, ma non riuscirono a trovare nessun motivo di accusa o di corruzione, perché egli era fedele, e mai si poté trovare contro di lui accusa di colpa o di negligenza.
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Allora quelli dissero: "Non troveremo mai nessuna colpa contro questo Daniele, se non troveremo contro di lui qualcosa riguardo alla legge del suo Dio".
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Così quegli alti funzionari e i satrapi si precipitarono dal re e gli dissero: "O re Dario, vivi in eterno!
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Tutti gli alti funzionari del regno, i governatori e i satrapi, i consiglieri e i prefetti hanno deliberato che il re ratifichi il decreto e confermi la proibizione che, chiunque rivolga preghiere a un dio o a un uomo, per la durata di trenta giorni, fuori che a te, o re, venga gettato nella fossa dei leoni.
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 Ora, o re, ratifica la proibizione e fanne redigere il documento, in modo che non possa essere cambiato, in conformità con la legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che non può essere violata".
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 In seguito a ciò il re Dario fece redigere il documento con la proibizione.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Daniele, appena ebbe conosciuto che era stato redatto il documento, andò a casa. Le finestre della sua camera alta erano poste in direzione di Gerusalemme e tre volte al giorno si inginocchiava, pregava e lodava il suo Dio, come era solito fare anche prima di allora.
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 Allora quegli uomini si affrettarono e trovarono Daniele che pregava e supplicava il suo Dio.
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Così andarono a dire al re riguardo alla proibizione reale: "Non hai fatto promulgare la proibizione che chiunque pregasse un dio o un uomo per la durata di trenta giorni, all'infuori di te, o re, sarebbe gettato nella fossa dei leoni?". Il re rispose e disse: "Così sta la cosa, secondo la legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che non può essere violata!".
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 Allora replicarono al re: "Daniele, che è dei deportati di Giuda, non si è preoccupato di te, o re, né della proibizione che tu hai fatto mettere per scritto e tre volte al giorno fa la sua preghiera".
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 Allora il re, quando ebbe udito ciò, si addolorò molto, si dette premura di salvare Daniele, e fino al tramonto del sole cercò di liberarlo.
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Ma quegli uomini si precipitarono dal re e gli dissero: "Sappi, o re, che è legge dei Medi e dei Persiani che nessuna proibizione o decreto che il re ha sanzionato può essere cambiato!".
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 Allora, dietro ordine del re, portarono via Daniele e lo gettarono nella fossa dei leoni. Ma il re si rivolse così a Daniele: "Il tuo Dio, che tu servi con tanta costanza, possa salvarti!".
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 Fu portata una pietra e fu messa sopra la bocca della fossa e il re la sigillò con il suo anello e con l'anello dei suoi dignitari, perché niente venisse mutato riguardo a Daniele.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 Allora il re se ne tornò nel suo palazzo, passò la notte a digiuno, non fece venire le concubine alla sua presenza e il sonno fuggì da lui.
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 Verso l'alba, sul far del giorno, il re, alzatosi, si recò in gran fretta alla fossa dei leoni
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 e quando si fu avvicinato alla fossa chiamò Daniele con voce angosciata. Il re si rivolse a Daniele: "Daniele, servo del Dio vivo, il tuo Dio, che tu servi con tanta costanza, è riuscito a salvarti dai leoni?".
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Allora Daniele parlò con il re: "O re, vivi in eterno!
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Il mio Dio ha mandato il suo angelo che ha chiuso la bocca dei leoni, i quali non mi hanno sbranato, perché davanti a lui sono stato trovato innocente. Ma anche davanti a te, o re, non ho fatto nulla di male".
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 Allora il re si rallegrò molto e dette ordine di tirar fuori Daniele dalla fossa. Daniele fu estratto dalla fossa e non si trovò nessuna lesione su di lui, perché aveva avuto fede nel suo Dio.
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 Il re poi dette ordine che fossero fatti venire quegli uomini che avevano calunniato Daniele e fossero gettati nella fossa dei leoni loro, i loro figli e le loro mogli. Non erano ancora arrivati al fondo della fossa che i leoni furono loro addosso e stritolarono tutte le loro ossa.
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 Poi il re Dario scrisse a tutti i popoli, nazioni e lingue che dimorano sopra tutta la terra: "La vostra pace sia grande!
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Da me viene decretato che in tutto il dominio del mio regno si tremi e si stia in timore davanti al Dio di Daniele: Egli è il Dio vivo e dura in eterno! Il suo regno non sarà mai distrutto e il suo dominio non avrà mai fine!
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 Egli salva e libera, opera segni e prodigi nel cielo e sulla terra. E' lui che ha salvato Daniele dal potere dei leoni!".
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.	29 Questo Daniele ebbe successo nel regno di Dario e nel regno di Ciro il Persiano.
