Daniel 6

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 Y recibió el reino Darío el Medo, que contaba sesenta y dos años.
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 Plugo a Darío establecer en su reino ciento veinte sátrapas que estuvieran por todo el reino,
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 bajo el mando de tres ministros - Daniel era uno de ellos -, a los que los sátrapas deberían rendir cuentas, con el fin de impedir que el rey recibiera daño alguno.
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 Este mismo Daniel se distinguía entre los ministros y los sátrapas, porque había en él un espíritu extraordinario, y el rey se proponía ponerle al frente del reino entero.
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 Por ello los ministros y los sátrapas se pusieron a buscar un motivo de acusación contra Daniel en algún asunto de Estado; pero no pudieron encontrar ningún motivo de acusación ni falta alguna, porque él era fiel y no se le podía reprochar de negligencia ni falta.
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Entonces se dijeron aquellos hombres: «No encontraremos ningún motivo de acusación contra este Daniel si no es en materia de la ley de su Dios».
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Los ministros y sátrapas acudieron, pues, atropelladamente ante el rey y le hablaron así: «¡Viva eternamente el rey Darío!
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Todos los ministros del reino, prefectos, sátrapas, consejeros y gobernadores, aconsejan unánimemente que se promulgue un edicto real para poner en vigor la prohibición siguiente: Todo aquel que en el término de treinta días dirija una oración a quienquiera que sea, dios u hombre, fuera de ti, oh rey, será arrojado al foso de los leones.
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 Ahora pues, oh rey, da fuerza de ley a esta prohibición firmando el edicto, de suerte que no se cambie nada, con arreglo a la ley de los medos y persas, que es irrevocable».
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 Ante esto, el rey Darío firmó el edicto de prohibición.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Al saber que había sido firmado el edicto, Daniel entró en su casa. Las ventanas de su cuarto superior estaban orientadas hacia Jerusalén y tres veces al día se ponía él de rodillas, para orar y dar gracias a su Dios; así lo había hecho siempre.
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 Aquellos hombres vinieron atropelladamente y sorprendieron a Daniel invocando y suplicando a su Dios.
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Entonces se presentaron al rey y le dijeron acerca de la prohibición real: «¿No has firmado tú una prohibición según la cual todo el que dirigiera, en el término de treinta días, una oración a quienquiera que fuese, dios u hombre, fuera de ti, oh rey, sería arrojado al foso de los leones?» Respondió el rey: «La cosa está decidida, según la ley de los medos y los persas, que es irrevocable».
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 Entonces ellos dijeron en presencia del rey: «Daniel, ese deportado de Judá, no hace caso de ti, oh rey, ni de la prohibición que tú has firmado: tres veces al día hace su oración».
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 Al oír estas palabras, el rey se afligió mucho y se propuso salvar a Daniel; hasta la puesta del sol estuvo buscando el modo de librarle.
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Pero aquellos hombres volvieron atropelladamente ante el rey y le dijeron: «Ya sabes, oh rey, que según la ley de los medos y los persas ninguna prohibición o edicto dado por el rey puede ser modificado».
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 Entonces el rey dio orden de traer a Daniel y de arrojarle al foso de los leones. El rey dijo a Daniel: «Tu Dios, a quien sirves con perseverancia, te librará».
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 Se trajo una piedra que fue colocada a la entrada del foso, y el rey la selló con su anillo y con el anillo de sus dignatarios, para que no se pudiese cambiar la suerte de Daniel.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 Después el rey volvió a su palacio y pasó la noche en ayuno; no dejó que le trajeran concubinas y el sueño huyó de él.
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 Al amanecer, al rayar el alba, el rey se levantó y se dirigió a toda prisa al foso de los leones.
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 Acercándose al foso, gritó a Daniel con voz angustiada: «Daniel, servidor del Dios vivo, tu Dios, a quien sirves con perseverencia, ¿ha podido librarte de los leones?»
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Entonces Daniel habló con el rey: «¡Viva el rey eternamente!
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Mi Dios ha enviado a su ángel, que ha cerrado la boca de los leones y no me han hecho ningún mal, porque he sido hallado inocente ante él. Y tampoco ante ti, oh rey, he cometido falta alguna».
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 El rey entonces se alegró mucho y mandó sacar a Daniel del foso. Sacaron a Daniel del foso y no se le encontró herida alguna, porque había confiado en su Dios.
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 Y el rey mandó traer a aquellos hombres que habían acusado a Daniel y echarlos al foso de los leones, a ellos, y a sus hijos y mujeres. Y no habían llegado aún al fondo del foso cuando ya los leones se habían lanzado sobre ellos y les habían triturado todos los huesos.
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 Entonces, el rey Darío escribió a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitaban en toda la tierra: «¡Sea grande vuestra paz!
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Por mí se decreta que en todos los dominios de mi reino se tema y se tiemble ante el Dios de Daniel, porque él es el Dios vivo, que subsiste por siempre, - su reino no será destruido y su imperio durará hasta el fin -
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 el que salva y libera, obra señales y milagros en los cielos y en la tierra; el que ha salvado a Daniel del poder de los leones».
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.	29 Y este mismo Daniel floreció en el reinado de Darío y en el reinado de Ciro el Persa.
