1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 Piacque a Dario di deputare pel governo del regno cento venti satrapi, che stessero in ogni parte del suo regno:
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 E tre principi, che soprintendessero a quegli, e uno di questi era Daniele, affinchè a questi rendessero conto i satrapi, e il re non fosse inquietato.
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 Daniele adunque andava avanti a tutti i principi, e satrapi: perchè in lui più spiccava lo spirito di Dio.
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 Or il re pensava di dare a lui l'autorità sopra tutto il regno: per la qualcosa i principi, e i satrapi cercavano occasion di tendere insidie a Daniele presso del re: e non poterono trovar cagione, né sospetto; perocché egli era fedele, ed era lontano da ogni defitto, e sospizione.
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 Dissero adunque coloro: Noi non troveremo onde accusar questo Daniele, se non forse riguardo alla legge del suo Dio.
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Allora i principi, e i satrapi ordirono inganno al re, e gli parlaron cosi Dario re, vivi eternamente.
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Tutti i principi del tuo regno, e magistrati, e i satrapi, e i senatori, e i giudici son di parere, che esca un decreto, e un editto imperiale; che chiunque domanderà qualche cosa a qualunque Dio, od uomo per trenta giorni, fuori che a te, o re, sia gittato nella fossa de' leoni.
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Or adunque, o re, conferma questo parere, e scrivi l'editto, che sia immutabile, come firmato dai Medi, e da' Persiani, né sia lecito ad alcuno di trasgredirlo.
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 E il re Dario pubblicò, e firmò l'editto.
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 La qual cosa avendo saputa Daniele, viene a dire, come era stata fatta tal legge, se n'andò a casa sua: e aperte le finestre della sua camera, che guardavan verso Gerusalemme, tre volte al dì piegate le sue ginocchia faceva adorazione, e rendeva grazie al suo Dio, come era solito di fare pell' avanti.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Ma coloro, che stavano attenti a tutto, trovaron Daniele, che orava, e supplicava il suo Dio.
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 E andati dal re gli rammentaron l'editto, dicendo: Non hai tu ordinato, o re, che qualunque persona, che per trenta giorni facesse preghiera ad alcuni degli dei, o degli uomini, fuori che a te o re, fosse gettato nella fossa de' leoni? A' quali rispose il re, e disse: Questo è vero secondo l'editto de' Medi , e de' Persiani, il quale non è lecito, che sia violato.
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Allora quegli risposero, e dissero al te: Daniele de' figliuoli esuli di Giuda non ha fatto caso della tua legge, né dell'editto firmato da te, ma tre volte al di fa sua orazione.
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 Ciò udito il re ne rimase molto afflitto, e per amor di Daniele ebbe desiderio di liberarlo, e fino al tramontar del sole si adoperava per trarlo di pericolo.
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 Ma coloro avendo compreso l'animo del re, gli dissero: Sappi, o re, che è legge de' Persi, e de' Medi, che Qualunque decreto fatto dal re sia immutabile.
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Allora il re diede l'ordine, e condusser Daniele, e lo gittarono nella fossa de' leoni: e il re disse a Daniele: Il tuo Dio, cui tu sempre adori, egli ti salverà.
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 E fu recata una pietra, e fu posta sull'apertura della fossa, e il re la sigillò col suo anello, e coll'anello de' suoi cortigiani, affinchè non si facesse nulla contro Daniele.
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 E il re se ne tornò a sua casa, e andò a dormire senza aver cenato, e non fu portata vivanda dinanzi a lui, e di più non potè prender sonno.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 Quindi alla prima punta del dì il re alzatosi andò in fretta alla fossa de' leoni:
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 E appressandosi alla fossa con voce lagrimevole chiamò Daniele, e gli parlò, e disse: Daniele servo di Dio vivo, il Dio tuo, cui tu servi sempre, ha egli potuto liberarti da' leoni?
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 E Daniele rispose al re, e disse: Vivi, o re, in eterno.
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Il mio Dio ha mandato il suo Angelo, e questi ha chiuse le bocche de' leoni, e non mi hanno fatto male; perocchè; dinanzi a lui è stata trovata giustizia in me: ma anche inverso di te, o re, io non ho commesso delitto.
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Allora il re grandemente si rallegrò per amore di lui, e ordinò, che Daniele fosse tratto fuori della fossa, e funne tratto Daniele, e non si vide lesione alcuna in lui, perchè ebbe fede nel suo Dio:
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 E per comando del re furon condotti coloro, che aveano accusato Daniele, e furon gettati nella fossa de' leoni eglino, e i figli, e le mogli loro, e non arrivarono sino al piano della fossa, che furon presi da' leoni, da' quali furon fatte in briccioli tutte le loro ossa.
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 Allora Dario scrisse a tutti i popoli, tribù, e lingue, quanti ne abitano per tutta la terra: Sia a voi abbondanza di pace.
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 E stato decretato da me, che in tutto quanto il mio regno sia temuto, e riverito il Dio di Daniele: imperocché egli è il Dio vivo, ed eterno pe' secoli e il regno di lui non sarà disciolto: la possanza di lui è in eterno.
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Egli Liberatore, e Salvatore, che fa segni, e prodigi in cielo, e in terra, egli, che ha liberato Daniele dalla fossa de' leoni.
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 Or Daniele fu sempre in onore pel tempo del regno di Dario, e nel regno di Ciro Persiano.
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
