Daniel 6

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 Aprouve a Dario, o medo, constituir e espalhar por todo o seu reino cento e vinte sátrapas,
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 submetidos a três ministros um dos quais era Daniel}, a quem eles teriam de prestar contas, a fim de que os interesses do rei nunca fossem lesados.
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 Ora, Daniel, devido à superioridade de seu espírito, levava vantagem sobre os ministros e sátrapas e com isso o rei sonhava em pô-lo à frente de todo o reino.
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 Por isso, ministros e sátrapas procuravam um meio de acusar Daniel em relação à sua administração. Mas não puderam descobrir pretexto algum, nem falta, porque ele era íntegro e nada de faltoso e repreensível se encontrava nele.
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 Esses homens disseram então: Não acharemos motivo algum de acusação contra esse Daniel, a não ser naquilo que diz respeito à lei de seu Deus.
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Então ministros e sátrapas vieram tumultuosamente procurar o rei e lhe disseram: Rei Dario, longa vida ao rei!
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Os ministros do reino, os prefeitos, os sátrapas, os conselheiros e os governadores estão todos de acordo em que seja publicado um edito real com uma interdição, estabelecendo que aquele que nesses trinta dias dirigir preces a um deus ou homem qualquer que seja, além de ti, ó rei, seja jogado na cova dos leões.
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Promulga pois, ó rei, esta interdição, e manda fazer um documento, a fim de que, conforme o estabelecido na lei definitiva dos medos e dos persas, não possa ser revogada.
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 Em conseqüência, o rei Dario fez redigir o documento contendo a referida interdição.
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 Ouvindo essa notícia, Daniel entrou em sua casa, a qual tinha no quarto de cima janelas que davam para o lado de Jerusalém. Três vezes ao dia, ajoelhado, como antes, continuou a orar e a louvar a Deus.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Então esses homens acorreram amotinados e encontraram Daniel em oração, invocando seu Deus.
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 Foram imediatamente ao palácio do rei e disseram-lhe, a respeito do edito real de interdição: Não promulgaste, ó rei, uma proibição estabelecendo que quem nesses trinta dias invocasse algum deus ou homem qualquer que fosse, à exceção tua, seria jogado na cova dos leões? Certamente, respondeu o rei, {assim foi feito} segundo a lei dos medos e dos persas, que não pode ser modificada.
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Pois bem, continuaram: Daniel, o deportado de Judá, não tem consideração nem por tua pessoa nem por teu decreto: três vezes ao dia ele faz sua oração.
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 Ouvindo essas palavras, o rei, bastante contrariado, tomou contudo a resolução de salvar Daniel, e nisso esforçou-se até o pôr-do-sol.
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 Mas os mesmos homens novamente o vieram procurar em tumulto: Saibas, ó rei, disseram-lhe, que a lei dos medos e dos persas não permite derrogação alguma a uma proibição ou a uma medida publicada em edito pelo rei.
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Então o rei deu ordem para trazerem Daniel e o jogarem na cova dos leões. Que o Deus, que tu adoras com tanta fidelidade, disse-lhe, queira ele mesmo salvar-te!
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 Trouxeram uma pedra, que foi rolada sobre a abertura da cova; o rei lacrou-a com seu sinete e com o dos grandes, a fim de que nada fosse modificado em relação a Daniel.
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 De volta a seu palácio, o rei passou a noite sem nada tomar, e sem mandar vir concubina alguma para junto de si. Não conseguiu adormecer.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 Logo ao amanhecer levantou-se e dirigiu-se a toda pressa à cova dos leões.
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 Quando se aproximou, chamou Daniel com voz cheia de tristeza: Daniel, disse-lhe, servo de Deus vivo, teu Deus que tu adoras com tanta fidelidade terá podido salvar-te dos leões?!
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 Daniel respondeu-lhe: Senhor, vida longa ao rei!
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Meu Deus enviou seu anjo e fechou a boca dos leões; eles não me fizeram mal algum, porque a seus olhos eu era inocente e porque contra ti também, ó rei, não cometi falta alguma.
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Então o rei, todo feliz, ordenou que se retirasse Daniel da cova. Foi ele assim retirado sem traço algum de ferimento, porque tinha tido fé em seu Deus.
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 Por ordem do rei, mandaram vir então os acusadores de Daniel, que foram jogados na cova dos leões com suas mulheres e seus filhos. Não haviam tocado o fundo da cova, e já os leões os agarraram e lhes trituraram os ossos!
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 Então o rei Dario escreveu: A todos os povos, a todas as nações e aos povos de todas as línguas que habitam sobre a terra, felicidade e prosperidade!
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 Por mim é ordenado que em toda a extensão de meu reino, se mantenha perante o Deus de Daniel temor e tremor. É o Deus vivo, que subsiste eternamente; seu reino é indestrutível e seu domínio é perpétuo.
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Ele salva e livra, faz milagres e prodígios no céu e sobre a terra: foi ele quem livrou Daniel das garras dos leões.
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 Foi assim que Daniel prosperou durante o reinado de Dario e durante o de Ciro, o persa.
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
