NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 King Nebuchadnezzar had a golden statue made, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, which he set upon the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.	1 Il re Nabucodonosor fece una statua d'oro, alta sessanta cubiti, larga sei cubiti, e la fece innalzare nella campagna di Dura, nella provincia di Babilonia.
2 King Nebuchadnezzar then summoned the satraps, magistrates, governors, counsel ors, treasurers,judges, lawyers, and al the provincial authorities to assemble and attend the dedication of the statue set up byKing Nebuchadnezzar.	2 Il re Nabucodonosor fece radunare i satrapi, i magistrati, i giudici, i capitani, i principi, i prefetti e tutti i governatori delle provinole, affinchè andassero insieme alla dedicazione della statua alzata dal re Nabucodonosor.
3 Satraps, magistrates, governors, counsel ors, treasurers, judges, lawyers and al the provincialauthorities then assembled for the dedication of the statue set up by King Nebuchadnezzar and stood in front ofthe statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.	3 Allora si radunarono i satrapi, i magistrati, i giudici, i capitani, i principi, i grandi costituiti in dignità, e tutti i governatori delle provincie, per andare tutti insieme alla dedicazione delia statua eretta dal re Nabucodonosor. Mentre stavano davanti alla statua alzata dal re Nabucodonosor,
4 A herald then loudly proclaimed: 'Peoples, nations, languages! Thus are you commanded:	4 il banditore gridava ad alta voce: — A voi, o popoli, tribù e lingue, vien dato quest'ordine:
5 the moment you hear the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind ofinstrument, you wil prostrate yourselves and worship the golden statue set up by King Nebuchadnezzar.	5 appena sentirete il suono della tromba, del flauto, della cetra, della zampogna, del salterio, del timpano e d'ogni altra specie di strumenti musicali, prostratevi in terra ad adorare la statua d'oro eretta dal re Nabucodonosor;
6 Anyone who does not prostrate himself and worship wil immediately be thrown into the burning fieryfurnace.'	6 e se uno non si prostra ad adorare, sarà subito gettato in una fornace di fuoco ardente.
7 And so, the instant al the peoples heard the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and al theother instruments, al the peoples, nations and languages prostrated themselves and worshipped the statue setup by King Nebuchadnezzar.	7 Dopo questo, appena i popoli tutti sentirono il suono della tromba, del flauto, della cetra, della zampogna, del salterio, del timpano e d'ogni altra specie di strumenti musicali, tutti, popoli, tribù e lingue, si prostrarono ad adorare la statua d'oro alzata dal re Nabucodonosor.
8 Some Chaldaeans then came forward and maliciously accused the Jews.	8 Nel medesimo tempo alcuni Caldei andarono subito ad accusare i Giudei,
9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	9 e dissero al re Nabucodonosor: « O re, vivi in eterno!
10 You have issued a decree, Your Majesty, to the effect that everyone on hearing the sound of horn,pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind of instrument is to prostrate himself and worship the goldenstatue;	10 Tu, o re, decretasti che ogni uomo, appena sentito il suono della tromba, del flauto, della cetra, della zampogna, del salterio, del timpano e di ogni altra specie di strumenti musicali, si prostrasse ad adorare la statua d'oro;
11 and that anyone who does not prostrate himself and worship is to be thrown into the burning fieryfurnace.	11 è che se uno non si fosse prostrato ad adorare, fosse gettato in una fornace di fuoco ardente.
12 Now, there are certain Jews to whom you have entrusted the affairs of the province of Babylon:Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego; these men have ignored your command, Your Majesty; they do not serveyour gods, and refuse to worship the golden statue you have set up.'	12 Or vi sono tre uomini Giudei, da te deputati sopra gli affari della provincia di Babilonia, Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago; questi uomini, o re, han disprezzato il tuo decreto, non venerano i tuoi dèi, e non adorano la statua di oro da te alzata ».
13 Shaking with fury, Nebuchadnezzar sent for Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. The men wereimmediately brought before the king.	13 Allora Nabucodonosor, pieno di furore e d'ira, ordinò che gli fossero condotti davanti Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, i quali furono subito menati al cospetto del re.
14 Nebuchadnezzar addressed them, 'Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego, is it true that you do notserve my gods, and that you refuse to worship the golden statue I have set up?	14 Il re Nabucodonosor, presa la parola, disse: « E' dunque vero, Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, che voi non venerate i miei dèi, e non adorate la statua d'oro da me eretta?
15 When you hear the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind of instrument,are you prepared to prostrate yourselves and worship the statue I have made? If you refuse to worship it, youwil be thrown forthwith into the burning fiery furnace; then which of the gods could save you from my power?'	15 Or dunque, se voi siete disposti, appena sentirete il suono della tromba, del flauto, della cetra, della zampogna, del salterio, del timpano e di ogni altra specie di strumenti musicali, prostratevi ad adorare la statua da me fatta, che se non l'adorerete, sarete sull'istante gettati in una fornace di fuoco ardente; e qual Dio potrà sottrarvi al mio potere? »
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego replied to King Nebuchadnezzar, 'Your question needs noanswer from us:	16 Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, presa la parola, dissero al re Nabucodonosor: « Sopra questo non è necessario darti una risposta;
17 if our God, the one we serve, is able to save us from the burning fiery furnace and from your power,Your Majesty, he wil save us;	17 perché senza dubbio il nostro Dio, da noi adorato, può liberarci dalla fornace di fuoco ardente, e sottrarci, o re, al tuo potere,
18 and even if he does not, then you must know, Your Majesty, that we wil not serve your god or worshipthe statue you have set up.'	18 e se anche non lo volesse fare, sappi, o re, che noi non veneriamo i tuoi dèi, non adoriamo la statua da te eretta ».
19 This infuriated King Nebuchadnezzar; his expression was changed now as he looked at Shadrach,Meshach and Abed-Nego. He gave orders for the furnace to be made seven times hotter than usual	19 Allora Nabucodonosor montò su tutte le furie, e mutato l'aspetto della sua faccia contro Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, ordinò che il fuoco nella fornace fosse sette volte più dell'ordinario,
20 and commanded certain stalwarts from his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego andthrow them into the burning fiery furnace.	20 e che uomini fortissimi del suo esercito, legati i piedi a Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, li gettassero nella fornace di fuoco ardente.
21 They were then bound in their cloaks, trousers, headgear and other garments, and thrown into theburning fiery furnace.	21 Subito questi tre uohmini, legati, coi loro calzoni, le tiare, i calzari e le vesti, furon gettati in mezzo alla fornace di fuoco ardente.
22 The king's command was so urgent and the heat of the furnace was so fierce, that the men carryingShadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were burnt to death by the flames from the fire;	22 Or siccome il comando del re urgeva e la fornace era straordinariamente accesa, le fiamme uccisero quelli che vi avevan gettato Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago,
23 the three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego fel , bound, into the burning fiery furnace.	23 mentre queesti tre, Sidrac, Misac e Abdenadgo, cadevan legati nel mezzo della fornace ardente. (Quanto segue non lo trovai nel testo ebraico).
24 And they walked in the heart of the flames, praising God and blessing the Lord.	24 E camminavano per mezzo delle fiamme, lodando Dio e benedicendo il Signore.
25 Azariah stood in the heart of the fire, praying aloud thus:	25 Azaria, alzatosi, fece questa preghiera; aprendo la sua bocca in mezzo al fuoco, disse:
26 May you be blessed and revered, Lord, God of our ancestors, may your name be held glorious forever.	26 « Sii benedetto, o Signore Dio dei padri nostri, degno di lode e glorioso è il tuo nome nei secoli;
27 For you are upright in al that you have done for us, al your deeds are true, all your ways right, al yourjudgements true.	27 perchè sei giusto in tutto ciò che ci hai fatto, e tutte le tue opere sono veraci, le tue vie son rette, e giusti tutti i tuoi giudizi.
28 True is the sentence you have given in al that you have brought down on us and on Jerusalem, theholy city of our ancestors, for you have treated us rightly and truly, as our sins deserve.	28 Davvero giusto fu il tuo giudizio in tutto ciò che facesti cadere sopra di noi e sopra la città santa dei padri nostri, Gerusalemme: con verità e con giustizia facesti venire tutto questo a causa dei nostri peccati.
29 Yes, we have sinned and committed a crime by deserting you, yes, we have greatly sinned; we havenot listened to your commandments,	29 Perchè noi abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito iniquamente, allontanandoci da te, abbiamo mancato in tutto.
30 we have not observed them, we have not done what you commanded us to do for our own good.	30 Non abbiamo dato retta ai tuoi comandamenti, non li abbiamo osservati, non abbiamo fatto quanto ci avevi ordinato per esser felici.
31 Yes, al that you have brought down on us, al that you have done to us, you have been ful y justifiedin doing.	31 Or dunque tutto quello che hai fatto venire addosso a noi, tutto quello che ci hai fatto, l'hai fatto con giusto giudizio:
32 You have handed us over to our enemies, to a lawless people, the worst of the godless, to an unjustking, the worst in the whole world;	32 ci hai dati in potere dei nostri nemici, ingiusti, pessimi, prevaricatori, e d'un re ingiusto, il peggiore di tutta la terra.
33 today we have no right to open our mouths, shame and dishonour are the lot of those who serve andworship you.	33 Ed ora noi non osiamo aprire bocca, essendo divenuti argomento di confusione e di obbrobrio pei tuoi servi, e per quei che t'adorano.
34 Do not abandon us for ever, for the sake of your name; do not repudiate your covenant,	34 Non ci abbandonare per sempre, te ne scongiuriamo per amor del tuo nome, non distruggere il tuo testamento;
35 do not withdraw your favour from us, for the sake of Abraham, your friend, of Isaac, your servant, andof Israel, your holy one,	35 non ritirare da noi la tua misericordia, per amor d'Abramo tuo amico, d'Isacco tuo servo, d'Israele tuo santo,
36 to whom you promised to make their descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as the grainsof sand on the seashore.	36 ai quali parlasti, promettendo di moltiplicare la loro stirpe come le stelle del cielo, come l'arena che è sul lido del mare.
37 Lord, we have become the least of al nations, we are put to shame today throughout the world,because of our sins.	37 Ed ora invece, o Signore, noi siam divenuti più piccoli di qualunque altra nazione, ora siamo umiliati per tutta la terra a causa dei nostri peccati.
38 We now have no leader, no prophet, no prince, no burnt offering, no sacrifice, no oblation, no incense,no place where we can make offerings to you	38 Ora non abbiamo più nè principe, nè capo, nè profeta, nè olocausto, nè sacrifizio, nè oblazione, nè incenso, nè luogo per presentarti le primizie
39 and win your favour. But may the contrite soul, the humbled spirit, be as acceptable to you	39 e trovar misericordia. Or ricevici col cuore contrito e collo spirito umiliato,
40 as burnt offerings of rams and bullocks, as thousands of fat lambs: such let our sacrifice be to youtoday, and may it please you that we fol ow you whole-heartedly, since those who trust in you wil not beshamed.	40 come coll'olocausto di arieti e di tori; come col sacrifizio di mille pingui agnelli. Così sia il nostro sacrifizio oggi nel tuo cospetto che ti sia accetto; giacché non possono restar confusi quelli che in te confidano.
41 And now we put our whole heart into fol owing you, into fearing you and seeking your face once more.	41 Ed ora ti seguitiamo con tutto il cuore, ti temiamo e cerchiamo la tua faccia.
42 Do not abandon us to shame but treat us in accordance with your gentleness, in accordance with thegreatness of your mercy.	42 Fai che non restiamo confusi; o trattaci secondo la tua benignità, secondo la grandezza della tua misericordia.
43 Rescue us in accordance with your wonderful deeds and win fresh glory for your name, O Lord.	43 Salvaci coi tuoi prodigi, e glorifica, o Signore, il tuo nome.
44 Confusion seize al who il -treat your servants: may they be covered with shame, deprived of al theirpower, and may their strength be broken.	44 Sian confusi tutti coloro che minacciano i tuoi servi, sian confusi con tutta la tua potenza, sia annientata la loro fortezza,
45 Let them learn that you alone are God and Lord, glorious over the whole world.	45 e conoscano che tu sei il Signore, il solo Dio, il glorioso sopra tutta la terra».
46 Al this time, the king's servants, who had thrown them into the furnace, had been stoking it with crudeoil, pitch, tow and brushwood	46 I ministri del re che li avevano gettati non cessavano di accrescere il fuoco nella fornace con nafta, stoppa, pece e sarmenti.
47 until the flames rose forty-nine cubits above the furnace	47 La fiamma s'alzava per quarantanove cubiti sopra la fornace,
48 and, leaping out, burnt those Chaldaeans to death who were standing round it.	48 e, uscendo fuori, bruciò i Caldei che trovò vicini alla fornace.
49 But the angel of the Lord came down into the furnace beside Azariah and his companions; he drovethe flames of the fire outwards from the furnace	49 Ma l'angelo del Signore era disceso con Azaria e con i suoi compagni nella fornace, ed allontanava da essi la fiamma del fuoco della fornace.
50 and, in the heart of the furnace, wafted a coolness to them as of the breeze and dew, so that the firedid not touch them at al and caused them no pain or distress.	50 Egli rese il centro della fornace come un luogo ove soffiasse un vento pieno di rugiada. Così il fuoco non li toccò in modo alcuno, non fece loro alcun male, non diede loro alcuna molestia.
51 Then al three in unison began to sing, glorifying and blessing God in the furnace, with the words:	51 Allora questi tre, come con una sola bocca, si misero a lodare, a glorificare, a benedire Dio nella fornace, dicendo:
52 May you be blessed, Lord, God of our ancestors, be praised and extol ed for ever. Blessed be yourglorious and holy name, praised and extol ed for ever.	52 « Tu sei benedetto, o Signore, Dio dei padri nostri, sei degno d'esser lodato, glorificato ed esaltato nei secoli; benedetto il tuo nome glorioso e santo, degno d'esser lodato e sopra tutti esaltato per tutti i secoli.
53 May you be blessed in the Temple of your sacred glory, exalted and glorified above all for ever:	53 Tu sei benedetto nel tempio santo della tua gloria, sei degno di suprema lode e gloria nei secoli.
54 blessed on the throne of your kingdom, exalted above al , glorified for ever:	54 Tu sei benedetto nel trono del tuo regno, sei degno di suprema lode ed esaltazione nei secoli.
55 blessed are you who fathom the abyss, enthroned on the winged creatures, praised and exaltedabove al for ever:	55 Sei benedetto tu che penetri col tuo sguardo gli abissi e stai assiso sopra i cherubini, sei degno di lode e di suprema esaltazione per sempre.
56 blessed in the expanse of the heavens, exalted and glorified for ever.	56 Tu sei benedetto nel firmamento del cielo, e degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.
57 Bless the Lord, al the Lord's creation: praise and glorify him for ever!	57 Opere del Signore, benedite tutte quante il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo sopra tutte le cose nei secoli.

88 Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael, bless the Lord, praise and glorify him for ever!-For he has rescued usfrom the Underworld, he has saved us from the hand of Death, he has snatched us from the burning fieryfurnace, he has drawn us from the heart of the flame!	88 Anania, Azaria, Misael, benedite il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo sopra tutte le cose nei secoli, perchè egli ci ha liberati dalla regione dei morti, dal potere della morte e ci ha salvati, ci ha resi incolumi in mezzo all'ardente fiamma, ci ha cavati di mezzo al fuoco.
89 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his love is everlasting.	89 Celebrate il Signore, perchè egli è buono e perchè è eterna la sua misericordia.
90 Bless the Lord, the God of gods, al who fear him, give praise and thanks to him, for his love iseverlasting!	90 Religiosi tutti, benedite il Signore, il Dio degli dèi, lodatelo e celebratelo, perchè la sua misericordia dura in eterno ». (Fin qui manca nell'ebraico, e il brano da noi dato Vabbiamo tradotto dall'edizione di Teodozione).
91 King Nebuchadnezzar sprang to his feet in amazement. He said to his advisers, 'Did we not havethese three men thrown bound into the fire?' They answered the king, 'Certainly, Your Majesty'.	91 Allora il re Nabucodonosor rimase stupefatto, ed alzatosi precipitosamente, disse ai suoi cortigiani: « Non abbiamo gettati tre uomini legati in mezzo alle fiamme? » Essi risposero e dissero: « Senza dubbio, o re ».
92 'But', he went on, 'I can see four men walking free in the heart of the fire and quite unharmed! And thefourth looks like a child of the gods!'	92 Ed egli prese a dire: « Ecco, io vedo quattro uomini che sciolti camminano in mezzo alle fiamme, senza riceverne alcun danno, e l'aspetto del quarto sembra simile al figlio di Dio ».
93 Nebuchadnezzar approached the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and said, 'Shadrach, Meshachand Abed-Nego, servants of God Most High, come out, come here!' And from the heart of the fire out cameShadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.	93 Allora Nabucodonosor si accostò alla porta della fornace ardente, e disse: « Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, servi dell'Altissimo Iddio, uscite fuori, venite ». Subito Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago uscirono di mezzo al fuoco.
94 The satraps, magistrates, governors, and advisers of the king crowded round the three men toexamine them: the fire had had no effect on their bodies: not a hair of their heads had been singed, their cloakswere not scorched, no smell of burning hung about them. Nebuchadnezzar said,	94 I satrapi, i magistrati, i giudici, e i cortigiani del re si affollarono, a contemplare quegli uomini: nei loro corpi nulla aveva potuto il fuoco, e nemmeno un capello della loro testa era abbruciacchiato, i loro calzari eran come prima; non era passato sopra di loro nemmeno l'odore del fuoco.
95 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego: he has sent his angel to rescue hisservants who, putting their trust in him, defied the order of the king, and preferred to forfeit their bodies ratherthan serve or worship any god but their God.	95 Allora Nabucodonosor proruppe in queste parole: « Benedetto sia il Dio di Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, ii quale mandato il suo Angelo, ha liberati i suoi servi che han creduto in lui, non hanno obbedito all'ordine del re, ed hanno sacrificati i loro corpi per non venerare nè adorare altro dio oltre il loro Dio.
96 I therefore decree as fol ows, "Peoples, nations, and languages! Let any of you speak disrespectful yof the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego, and I shal have him torn limb from limb and his house turnedinto a dunghil ; for there is no other god who can save like this." '	96 Or questo è il decreto da me fatto: che qualunque popolo, tribù e lingua che proferisca bestemmia contro il Dio di Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago, perisca, e ne sian devastate le case, perchè non v'è altro Dio che possa salvare in quella maniera ».
97 The king then showered favours on Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.	97 Allora il re innalzò Sidrac, Misac e Abdenago al governo della provincia di Babilonia.
98 'King Nebuchadnezzar, to all peoples, nations and languages dwelling throughout the world: may youprosper more and more!	98 « Il re Nabucodonosor a tutti i popoli, nazioni e lingue che abitano in tutta quanta la terra: la pace vi sia moltiplicata.

100 How great his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, his empireendures age after age!'	100 i suoi segni, chè sono grandi, e i suoi prodigi, che sono pieni di potenza e il suo fogno è un regno eterno, e la sua potenza si estende a tutte Rigenerazioni ».
