Daniel 11

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 on whom I rely to give me support and to reinforce me.	1 Assim como eu, {no primeiro ano do reinado de Dario, o medo, mantive-me} junto a ele para auxiliá-lo e protegê-lo.
2 And now I shal tell you the truth about these things. 'Three more kings are going to rise in Persia; afourth wil come and be richer than al the others, and when, thanks to his wealth, he has grown powerful, he wilmake war on al the kingdoms of Greece.	2 Agora vou manifestar-te a verdade. Haverá ainda três reis na Pérsia. O quarto ultrapassará todos os demais em riquezas. Quando suas riquezas o tiverem tornado poderoso, movimentará tudo contra o reino de Javã.
3 A mighty king wil rise and govern a vast empire and do whatever he pleases.	3 Mas levantar-se-á um rei forte que dominará sobre um vasto império e fará tudo quanto lhe aprouver.
4 But once he has come to power, his empire wil be broken up and parcelled out to the four winds ofheaven, though not to his descendants: it wil not be ruled as he ruled it, for his sovereignty will be uprooted andwil pass to others than his own descendants.	4 Quando ficar poderoso, seu reino será desmembrado e dividido aos quatro ventos do céu. Não passará à posteridade e não terá mais o mesmo poder; seu reino será desmembrado e entregue a estranhos e não a seus descendentes.
5 'The king of the south wil grow powerful, but one of his princes wil grow more powerful stil , with anempire greater than his own.	5 O rei do sul tornar-se-á poderoso, mas um dos chefes do seu exército ficará ainda mais forte e seu império será grande.
6 Some years later, these will conclude a treaty and, to ratify the agreement, the daughter of the king ofthe south wil go to the king of the north. Her arm will not, however, retain its strength, nor his posterity endure:she wil be handed over, she, her escorts and her child, and he who has had authority over her. In due time	6 Após alguns anos aliar-se-ão: a filha do rei do sul virá à casa do rei do norte para fazer o acordo; mas ela não conservará o apoio de seu pai, cujo poder não se manterá, nem o do seu esposo. Ela será morta com aqueles que a tiverem trazido, aquele que a criou e aquele que a tinha feito poderosa.
7 a sprig from her roots wil rise in his place, wil march on the defences, force the stronghold of the kingof the north, and succeed in overcoming them.	7 Um dos rebentos da mesma raiz levantar-se-á em seu lugar; virá em direção do exército, entrará nas fortalezas do rei do norte, atacá-lo-á e sairá vencedor.
8 He wil even carry off al their gods, their statues, their precious gold and silver vessels as booty toEgypt. For some years he wil leave the king of the north in peace,	8 Levará para o Egito até mesmo seus deuses cativos, assim como seus ídolos e seus objetos preciosos de ouro e de prata. Depois, durante alguns anos, abster-se-á de atacar o rei do norte.
9 but the latter will invade the kingdom of the king of the south, then retire to his own country.	9 Este virá contra o rei do sul, mas voltará para a sua terra.
10 His sons wil next be on the march, mustering a host of powerful forces; and he wil advance, deploy,break through and march on the southern stronghold once again.	10 Mas seus filhos prepararão a guerra recrutando um exército numeroso, o qual, precipitando-se como uma torrente, invadirá e levará a batalha até a sua fortaleza.
11 The king of the south wil fly into a rage and set out to give battle to the king of the north, who wilhave an immense army on his side, but this army wil be defeated by him.	11 Irritado, o rei do sul sairá para atacar o rei do norte: como porá em campo um numeroso exército, as tropas inimigas ser-lhe-ão entregues.
12 The army wil be annihilated; he wil be triumphant; he wil overthrow tens of thousands; yet he wilhave no enduring strength.	12 Após o aniquilamento desse exército, encher-se-á de orgulho. Mandará matar dezenas de milhares de homens, sem ficar mais forte por isso.
13 The king of the north wil come back, having recruited an even larger army than before, and final y,after some years, he wil advance a second time with a great army and plentiful supplies.	13 O rei do norte organizará novamente um exército mais numeroso ainda que o primeiro, e alguns anos depois avançará em meio a enormes tropas e a um grandioso aparato.
14 At that time, many wil take up arms against the king of the south, and the more violent of your ownpeople wil rebel in the hope of realising the vision; but they will fail.	14 Nesse momento, muitos se levantarão contra o rei do sul; homens violentos de teu povo revoltar-se-ão para cumprir a visão, mas fracassarão.
15 The king of the north wil then come and throw up siege-works to capture a strongly fortified city. The forces of the south wil not stand their ground; the pick of the people will not be strong enough to resist.	15 O rei do norte virá então, destruirá trincheiras e tomará fortalezas. Os exércitos do rei do sul, mesmo as suas tropas de escol, não se manterão; nada poderá resistir.
16 The invader wil do as he pleases, no one wil be able to resist him: he will take his stand in the Landof Splendour, destruction in his hands.	16 O invasor agirá à sua vontade sem que ninguém possa enfrentá-lo. Deter-se-á no país que é a jóia da terra; e a destruição estará em suas mãos.
17 He wil set about conquering his entire kingdom, but wil then make a treaty with him and, tooverthrow the kingdom, give him a woman's hand; but this wil not last or be to his advantage.	17 Empreenderá a conquista do reino do sul; fará um pacto com seu rei e dar-lhe-á sua filha como mulher, a fim de amenizar a ruína dessa terra; mas isso não dará resultado, e esse reino não lhe pertencerá.
18 He wil next turn to the coasts and islands and conquer many of them, but a magistrate wil put a stopto his outrages in such a way that he wil be unable to repay outrage for outrage.	18 Depois voltar-se-á contra as ilhas e tomará diversas. Porém um chefe militar porá fim à sua soberba, e fá-lo-á pagar sua injúria.
19 'He wil then turn on the strongholds of his own country, but wil stumble, fall, and never be seenagain.	19 Então voltar-se-á contra as fortalezas de sua terra, mas tropeçará, cairá e acabará desaparecendo.
20 In his place there wil rise a man who wil send an extortioner to despoil the royal splendour; in a fewdays he wil be shattered, though neither publicly nor in battle.	20 No lugar deste último será colocado um príncipe, que enviará um fiscal ao país que é a jóia da terra. Em poucos dias ele será aniquilado, e não será nem por efeito de cólera nem de batalha.
21 'In his place wil rise a wretch: royal honours wil not be given to him, but rather he wil insinuatehimself into them at his pleasure and wil gain possession of the kingdom by intrigue.	21 Em seu lugar, elevar-se-á um homem vil, sem nenhuma dignidade real, que surgirá repentinamente e apossar-se-á da realeza pelas suas intrigas.
22 Armies will be utterly routed and crushed by him, the Prince of the covenant too.	22 As tropas de invasão serão postas em fuga diante dele e aniquiladas, bem como o chefe da aliança.
23 Through his alliances he wil act treacherously and, despite the smal ness of his fol owing, grow everstronger.	23 A despeito do pacto firmado com ele, agirá com perfídia: atacará e triunfará com poucos homens.
24 At his pleasure, he wil invade rich provinces, acting as his fathers or his fathers' fathers never acted,distributing among them plunder, spoil and wealth, plotting his stratagems against the fortresses -- for a time.	24 Invadirá inesperadamente as regiões mais férteis da terra; fará o que nunca fizeram seus pais nem os antepassados deles: distribuirá com os seus os saques, despojos, riquezas; combinará ofensivas contra as fortalezas, mas apenas por um tempo.
25 'He wil summon up his might and courage against the king of the south with a great army. The kingof the south wil march to war with a huge and powerful army but wil not succeed, since he will be outwitted bytrickery.	25 Dará novo impulso a suas forças e a seu valor, atacando o rei do sul com um exército considerável. Por seu lado, o rei do sul entrará na luta com um exército importante e valoroso, mas não poderá resistir devido às intrigas urdidas contra ele.
26 Those who shared his food wil ruin him; his army wil be swept away, many wil fall in the slaughter.	26 Seus comensais o aniquilarão; seu exército se dispersará e muitos homens cairão feridos mortalmente.
27 'The two kings, seated at one table, hearts bent on evil, wil tell their lies; but they will not have theirway, for the appointed time is stil to come.	27 Com o coração repleto de desejos malévolos, os dois reis enganar-se-ão mutuamente à volta da mesma mesa. Mas seus projetos fracassarão, porque o fim só virá no tempo determinado.
28 Then the wretch wil return greatly enriched to his own country, his heart set against the holycovenant; he wil take action and then return to his own country.	28 Volverá à sua terra com grandes riquezas. Seu coração meditará o mal contra a santa aliança; cometê-lo-á, depois entrará novamente em sua terra.
29 In due time, he will make his way southwards again, but this time the outcome wil not be as before.	29 No tempo previsto atacará de novo o sul: mas esta expedição não será semelhante à precedente.
30 The ships of the Kittim wil oppose him, and he wil be worsted. He wil retire and take furious actionagainst the holy covenant and, as before, wil favour those who forsake that holy covenant.	30 Navios de Cetim o atacarão e ele desanimará. Dirigirá novamente sua fúria contra a santa aliança, tomará medidas contra ela, fazendo um pacto com aqueles que a abandonarem.
31 'Forces of his wil come and profane the Citadel-Sanctuary; they will abolish the perpetual sacrificeand instal the appal ing abomination there.	31 Tropas sob sua ordem virão profanar o santuário, a fortaleza; farão cessar o holocausto perpétuo e instalarão a abominação do devastador.
32 Those who break the covenant he wil seduce by his blandishments, but the people who know theirGod will stand firm and take action.	32 Submeterá, com suas lisonjas, os violadores da aliança, mas a multidão daqueles que conhecem seu Deus manter-se-á firme e resistirá.
33 Those of the people who are wise leaders wil instruct many; for some days, however, they wilstumble from sword and flame, captivity and pil age.	33 Os homens doutos desse povo instruirão um grande número; mas, durante algum tempo, perecerão pela espada, fogo, cativeiro e pilhagem.
34 And thus stumbling, little help wil they receive, though many will be scheming in their support.	34 Enquanto forem caindo dessa maneira, serão um tanto amparados; e um bom número unir-se-á hipocritamente a eles.
35 Of the wise leaders some wil stumble, and so a number of them wil be purged, purified and madeclean -- until the time of the End, for the appointed time is stil to come.	35 Muitos desses sábios sucumbirão, a fim de que sejam provados, purificados e branqueados até o termo final; ora, esse final só chegará no tempo marcado.
36 'The king wil do as he pleases, growing more and more arrogant, considering himself greater thanal the gods; he will utter incredible blasphemies against the God of gods, and he wil thrive until the wrathreaches bursting point; for what has been decreed wil certainly be fulfil ed.	36 O rei fará então tudo o que desejar. Ensoberbecer-se-á, elevar-se-á no seu orgulho acima de qualquer divindade; proferirá até coisas inauditas contra o Deus dos deuses; prosperará até que a cólera divina tenha chegado ao seu termo, porque o que está decretado deverá ser executado.
37 Heedless of his fathers' gods, heedless of the god whom women love, heedless of any godwhatever, he wil consider himself greatest of al .	37 Não respeitará nem os deuses de seus antepassados, nem a deusa querida das mulheres, nem divindade alguma; julgar-se-á superior a todos.
38 Instead of them, he wil honour the god of fortresses, will honour a god unknown to his ancestorswith gold and silver, precious stones and valuable presents.	38 Mas venerará o deus das fortalezas, no próprio local, um deus desconhecido de seus antepassados, com ouro, prata, pedras preciosas e jóias.
39 He wil use the people of an alien god to defend the fortresses; he will confer great honours on thosewhom he acknowledges, by giving them wide authority and by parcel ing the country out for rent.	39 Com o auxílio de um deus estranho, atacará as muralhas das fortalezas; aos que o reconhecerem, multiplicará as honras, conferir-lhes-á autoridade sobre numerosos vassalos e distribuir-lhes-á terras em recompensa.
40 'When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king ofthe north wil come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He wil invade countries,overrun them and drive on.	40 No final, o rei do sul e ele entrarão em luta. O rei do norte cairá sobre ele, como um furacão, com carros, cavaleiros e uma frota considerável. Entrará na terra como uma torrente que transborda.
41 He wil invade the Land of Splendour, and many wil fal ; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of thesons of Ammon wil escape him.	41 Invadirá o país que é a jóia da terra, onde muitos homens cairão. Mas os edomitas, os moabitas, e a maioria dos amonitas escapar-lhe-ão.
42 'He wil reach out to attack countries: Egypt will not escape him.	42 Apoderar-se-á de diferentes países; o Egito não lhe escapará.
43 The gold and silver treasures and al the valuables of Egypt wil lie in his power. Libyans andCushites wil be at his feet:	43 Pilhará os tesouros de ouro e de prata bem como tudo o que houver de precioso no Egito. Os líbios e os etíopes juntar-se-ão a ele.
44 but reports coming from the East and the north wil worry him, and in great fury he wil set out to bringruin and complete destruction to many.	44 Mas, alarmado pelas notícias vindas do oriente e do norte, retirar-se-á como uma fúria, para destruir e exterminar uma multidão de povos.
45 He wil pitch the tents of his royal headquarters between the sea and the mountains of the HolySplendour. Yet he wil come to his end -- there wil be no help for him.'	45 Erguerá os pavilhões de seu palácio entre o mar e a nobre montanha do santuário. Então alcançará o termo de sua vida e ninguém lhe prestará socorro.
