NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 on whom I rely to give me support and to reinforce me.	1 mon appui pour me prêter main-forte et me soutenir.
2 And now I shal tell you the truth about these things. 'Three more kings are going to rise in Persia; afourth wil come and be richer than al the others, and when, thanks to his wealth, he has grown powerful, he wilmake war on al the kingdoms of Greece.	2 A présent, je vais t'annoncer la vérité. "Voici: trois rois encore se lèveront pour la Perse; lequatrième aura plus de richesses qu'eux tous, et lorsque sa richesse l'aura rendu puissant, il se lèvera contre tousles royaumes de Yavân.
3 A mighty king wil rise and govern a vast empire and do whatever he pleases.	3 Un roi vaillant se lèvera et gouvernera un vaste empire et fera ce qu'il lui plaît.
4 But once he has come to power, his empire wil be broken up and parcelled out to the four winds ofheaven, though not to his descendants: it wil not be ruled as he ruled it, for his sovereignty will be uprooted andwil pass to others than his own descendants.	4 Tandis qu'il s'élèvera, son royaume sera brisé et partagé aux quatre vents du ciel, mais non pas auprofit de sa descendance; il ne sera pas gouverné comme il l'avait gouverné, car son royaume sera extirpé et livréà d'autres qu'elle.
5 'The king of the south wil grow powerful, but one of his princes wil grow more powerful stil , with anempire greater than his own.	5 Le roi du Midi deviendra fort; un de ses princes l'emportera sur lui et son empire sera plus grandque le sien.
6 Some years later, these will conclude a treaty and, to ratify the agreement, the daughter of the king ofthe south wil go to the king of the north. Her arm will not, however, retain its strength, nor his posterity endure:she wil be handed over, she, her escorts and her child, and he who has had authority over her. In due time	6 Quelques années plus tard ils contracteront une alliance et la fille du roi du Midi s'en viendra auprèsdu roi du Nord pour exécuter les accords. Mais la force de son bras ne tiendra pas, ni sa descendance nesubsistera: elle sera livrée, elle et ceux qui l'ont amenée, et son enfant, et celui qui a eu pouvoir sur elle. En sontemps,
7 a sprig from her roots wil rise in his place, wil march on the defences, force the stronghold of the kingof the north, and succeed in overcoming them.	7 un rejeton de ses racines se lèvera à sa place, qui s'en viendra vers les remparts et pénétrera dans laforteresse du roi du Nord, et il les traitera en vainqueur.
8 He wil even carry off al their gods, their statues, their precious gold and silver vessels as booty toEgypt. For some years he wil leave the king of the north in peace,	8 Leurs dieux mêmes, leurs statues et leurs vases précieux d'argent et d'or seront le butin qu'ilemportera en Egypte. Pendant quelques années il se tiendra à distance du roi du Nord.
9 but the latter will invade the kingdom of the king of the south, then retire to his own country.	9 Il se rendra vers le royaume du roi du Midi puis s'en retournera dans son pays.
10 His sons wil next be on the march, mustering a host of powerful forces; and he wil advance, deploy,break through and march on the southern stronghold once again.	10 Ses fils se lèveront et réuniront une multitude de forces puissantes, et il s'avancera, déferlera,passera et se lèvera de nouveau jusqu'à sa forteresse.
11 The king of the south wil fly into a rage and set out to give battle to the king of the north, who wilhave an immense army on his side, but this army wil be defeated by him.	11 Et le roi du Midi se mettra en fureur et partira en guerre contre le roi du Nord qui ralliera unegrande multitude; mais la multitude sera livrée entre ses mains.
12 The army wil be annihilated; he wil be triumphant; he wil overthrow tens of thousands; yet he wilhave no enduring strength.	12 La multitude sera anéantie; son coeur s'exaltera, il abattra des myriades, mais il n'aura point deforce.
13 The king of the north wil come back, having recruited an even larger army than before, and final y,after some years, he wil advance a second time with a great army and plentiful supplies.	13 Le roi du Nord reviendra, ayant levé des multitudes plus nombreuses que les premières, et aprèsdes années il s'avancera avec une grande armée et un abondant équipement.
14 At that time, many wil take up arms against the king of the south, and the more violent of your ownpeople wil rebel in the hope of realising the vision; but they will fail.	14 En ces temps un grand nombre se dresseront contre le roi du Midi et les violents parmi ceux de tonpeuple se lèveront pour accomplir la vision, mais ils trébucheront.
15 The king of the north wil then come and throw up siege-works to capture a strongly fortified city. The forces of the south wil not stand their ground; the pick of the people will not be strong enough to resist.	15 Viendra le roi du Nord qui construira des retranchements pour assiéger une ville fortifiée. Les brasdu Midi ne résisteront pas; l'élite du peuple n'aura pas la force de résister.
16 The invader wil do as he pleases, no one wil be able to resist him: he will take his stand in the Landof Splendour, destruction in his hands.	16 Celui qui s'avance contre lui le traitera selon son bon plaisir, personne ne lui résistera: il se tiendradans le Pays de Splendeur, la destruction entre les mains.
17 He wil set about conquering his entire kingdom, but wil then make a treaty with him and, tooverthrow the kingdom, give him a woman's hand; but this wil not last or be to his advantage.	17 Il aura en tête de conquérir son royaume tout entier; puis il fera un pacte avec lui en lui donnantune fille des femmes afin de le détruire, mais cela ne tiendra pas et ne sera pas à lui.
18 He wil next turn to the coasts and islands and conquer many of them, but a magistrate wil put a stopto his outrages in such a way that he wil be unable to repay outrage for outrage.	18 Il se tournera vers les îles et en prendra un grand nombre; mais un magistrat fera cesser sonoutrage sans qu'il puisse lui revaloir son outrage.
19 'He wil then turn on the strongholds of his own country, but wil stumble, fall, and never be seenagain.	19 Il tournera sa face vers les bastions de son pays, mais il trébuchera, tombera, on ne le trouveraplus.
20 In his place there wil rise a man who wil send an extortioner to despoil the royal splendour; in a fewdays he wil be shattered, though neither publicly nor in battle.	20 A sa place en viendra un qui fera passer un exacteur portant atteinte à la splendeur royale: enquelques jours il sera brisé, mais non au vu de tous ou à la guerre.
21 'In his place wil rise a wretch: royal honours wil not be given to him, but rather he wil insinuatehimself into them at his pleasure and wil gain possession of the kingdom by intrigue.	21 "A sa place se lèvera un misérable: on ne lui donnera pas les honneurs de la royauté. Il s'en viendraà son aise et s'emparera du royaume par des intrigues.
22 Armies will be utterly routed and crushed by him, the Prince of the covenant too.	22 Les forces seront en débâcle devant lui et seront brisées - même le Prince d'une alliance.
23 Through his alliances he wil act treacherously and, despite the smal ness of his fol owing, grow everstronger.	23 Par ses complicités il agira en traître et ira en se fortifiant, bien qu'avec peu de monde.
24 At his pleasure, he wil invade rich provinces, acting as his fathers or his fathers' fathers never acted,distributing among them plunder, spoil and wealth, plotting his stratagems against the fortresses -- for a time.	24 A son aise, il envahira les grasses provinces, agissant comme n'avaient agi ni ses pères ni les pèresde ses pères, dispersant parmi eux butin, profits et richesses, tendant ses stratagèmes contre les forteresses, pourun temps.
25 'He wil summon up his might and courage against the king of the south with a great army. The kingof the south wil march to war with a huge and powerful army but wil not succeed, since he will be outwitted bytrickery.	25 Il excitera sa force et son coeur contre le roi du Midi, avec une grande armée. Le roi du Midi selèvera pour la guerre avec une armée très grande et très puissante, mais il ne tiendra pas, car des stratagèmesseront tendus contre lui.
26 Those who shared his food wil ruin him; his army wil be swept away, many wil fall in the slaughter.	26 Et ceux qui mangeaient de ses mets le mettront en pièces; son armée sera débordée, et nombreuxtomberont les morts.
27 'The two kings, seated at one table, hearts bent on evil, wil tell their lies; but they will not have theirway, for the appointed time is stil to come.	27 Les deux rois, leur coeur tourné vers le mal, assis à la même table, diront des mensonges; mais ilsn'aboutiront point, car le temps fixé est encore à venir.
28 Then the wretch wil return greatly enriched to his own country, his heart set against the holycovenant; he wil take action and then return to his own country.	28 Il rentrera dans son pays avec de grandes richesses, le coeur contre l'Alliance sainte; il agira, puisil rentrera dans son pays.
29 In due time, he will make his way southwards again, but this time the outcome wil not be as before.	29 Le moment venu, il retournera vers le Midi, mais il n'en sera pas de la fin comme ducommencement.
30 The ships of the Kittim wil oppose him, and he wil be worsted. He wil retire and take furious actionagainst the holy covenant and, as before, wil favour those who forsake that holy covenant.	30 Les vaisseaux des Kittim viendront contre lui et il sera découragé. Il reviendra et sévirafurieusement contre l'Alliance sainte, et de nouveau, il aura en considération ceux qui abandonnent l'Alliancesainte.
31 'Forces of his wil come and profane the Citadel-Sanctuary; they will abolish the perpetual sacrificeand instal the appal ing abomination there.	31 Des forces viendront de sa part profaner le sanctuaire-citadelle, ils aboliront le sacrifice perpétuel,et y mettront l'abomination de la désolation.
32 Those who break the covenant he wil seduce by his blandishments, but the people who know theirGod will stand firm and take action.	32 Ceux qui transgressent l'Alliance, il les pervertira par ses paroles douces, mais les gens quiconnaissent leur Dieu s'affermiront et agiront.
33 Those of the people who are wise leaders wil instruct many; for some days, however, they wilstumble from sword and flame, captivity and pil age.	33 Les doctes d'entre le peuple enseigneront la multitude; ils trébucheront par l'épée et la flamme, etla captivité et la spoliation - durant des jours.
34 And thus stumbling, little help wil they receive, though many will be scheming in their support.	34 Qu'ils trébuchent, peu de gens leur viendront en aide; nombreux seront ceux qui s'associeront àeux par des intrigues.
35 Of the wise leaders some wil stumble, and so a number of them wil be purged, purified and madeclean -- until the time of the End, for the appointed time is stil to come.	35 Parmi les doctes, certains trébucheront, en sorte que dans le nombre il y en ait qui soient purifiés,lavés et blanchis - jusqu'au temps de la Fin, car le temps fixé est encore à venir.
36 'The king wil do as he pleases, growing more and more arrogant, considering himself greater thanal the gods; he will utter incredible blasphemies against the God of gods, and he wil thrive until the wrathreaches bursting point; for what has been decreed wil certainly be fulfil ed.	36 Le roi agira selon son bon plaisir, s'enorgueillissant et s'exaltant par-dessus tous les dieux, contrele Dieu des dieux il dira des choses inouïes et il prospérera jusqu'à ce que soit comble la colère - car ce qui estdéterminé s'accomplira.
37 Heedless of his fathers' gods, heedless of the god whom women love, heedless of any godwhatever, he wil consider himself greatest of al .	37 Sans égards pour les dieux de ses pères, sans égards pour le favori des femmes ou pour tout autredieu, c'est lui-même qu'il exaltera au-dessus de tout.
38 Instead of them, he wil honour the god of fortresses, will honour a god unknown to his ancestorswith gold and silver, precious stones and valuable presents.	38 A leur place il vénérera le dieu des forteresses, il vénérera un dieu que ses pères n'ont point connu,par l'or et l'argent, pierres précieuses et choses de prix.
39 He wil use the people of an alien god to defend the fortresses; he will confer great honours on thosewhom he acknowledges, by giving them wide authority and by parcel ing the country out for rent.	39 Il prendra comme défenseurs des forteresses le peuple d'un dieu étranger, à ceux qu'il reconnaîtra,il fera grands honneurs en leur donnant autorité sur la multitude, et en partageant la terre pour un rendement.
40 'When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king ofthe north wil come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He wil invade countries,overrun them and drive on.	40 "Au temps de la Fin, le roi du Midi s'affrontera avec lui; le roi du Nord déferlera sur lui avec seschars, ses cavaliers et ses nombreux navires. Il viendra dans les pays, qu'il envahira et traversera.
41 He wil invade the Land of Splendour, and many wil fal ; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of thesons of Ammon wil escape him.	41 Il viendra dans le Pays de Splendeur, et il en tombera un grand nombre, mais ceux-ci échapperontde ses mains: Edom et Moab et les restes des fils d'Ammon.
42 'He wil reach out to attack countries: Egypt will not escape him.	42 Il étendra sa main sur les pays: le pays d'Egypte n'y échappera point.
43 The gold and silver treasures and al the valuables of Egypt wil lie in his power. Libyans andCushites wil be at his feet:	43 Il aura en son pouvoir les trésors d'or et d'argent et toutes les choses précieuses d'Egypte. Libyenset Kushites seront à ses pieds.
44 but reports coming from the East and the north wil worry him, and in great fury he wil set out to bringruin and complete destruction to many.	44 Mais des rumeurs viendront le troubler de l'Orient et du Nord; il s'en ira en grande fureur détruireet exterminer une multitude.
45 He wil pitch the tents of his royal headquarters between the sea and the mountains of the HolySplendour. Yet he wil come to his end -- there wil be no help for him.'	45 Il dressera les tentes de ses quartiers entre la mer et les monts de la Sainte Splendeur. Il s'en irajusqu'à son terme: pour lui aucun secours.
