NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 on whom I rely to give me support and to reinforce me.	1 Yo, por mi parte, estuve apostado para darle fuerza y apoyo, durante el primer año de Darío el medo.
2 And now I shal tell you the truth about these things. 'Three more kings are going to rise in Persia; afourth wil come and be richer than al the others, and when, thanks to his wealth, he has grown powerful, he wilmake war on al the kingdoms of Greece.	2 Y ahora voy a anunciarte la verdad. Todavía surgirán tres reyes en Persia, y el cuarto poseerá riquezas más grandes que todos los demás. Y cuando este se haya hecho poderoso por su riqueza, movilizará todo contra el reino de Javán.
3 A mighty king wil rise and govern a vast empire and do whatever he pleases.	3 Luego surgirá un rey guerrero, que ejercerá un dominio inmenso y hará lo que le parezca.
4 But once he has come to power, his empire wil be broken up and parcelled out to the four winds ofheaven, though not to his descendants: it wil not be ruled as he ruled it, for his sovereignty will be uprooted andwil pass to others than his own descendants.	4 Sin embargo, apenas logre afianzarse, su reino será dividido y repartido a los cuatro vientos del cielo, pero no en provecho de sus descendientes, y sin el dominio que él había ejercido. Porque su reino será arrancado de raíz y pasará a otros, distintos de aquellos.
5 'The king of the south wil grow powerful, but one of his princes wil grow more powerful stil , with anempire greater than his own.	5 El rey del Sur se hará poderoso, pero uno de sus jefes será más fuerte que él, y ejercerá un dominio más grande que el suyo.
6 Some years later, these will conclude a treaty and, to ratify the agreement, the daughter of the king ofthe south wil go to the king of the north. Her arm will not, however, retain its strength, nor his posterity endure:she wil be handed over, she, her escorts and her child, and he who has had authority over her. In due time	6 Al cabo de algunos años, ellos se aliarán, y la hija del rey del Sur se presentará al rey del Norte para concertar un acuerdo equitativo. Pero ella no conservará la fuerza de su brazo, y su descendencia no subsistirá: ella misma será entregada, y junto con ella, los que la habían llevado, así como su hijo y el que la había sostenido. En aquellos tiempos,
7 a sprig from her roots wil rise in his place, wil march on the defences, force the stronghold of the kingof the north, and succeed in overcoming them.	7 surgirá en lugar de su padre un retoño de las mismas raíces que ella: él atacará al ejército y penetrará en la fortaleza del rey del Norte, luchará contra ellos y vencerá.
8 He wil even carry off al their gods, their statues, their precious gold and silver vessels as booty toEgypt. For some years he wil leave the king of the north in peace,	8 Hasta a sus dioses, con sus estatuas de metal fundido y sus objetos de plata y oro, los llevará cautivos a Egipto; y él, durante algunos años, se mantendrá alejado del rey del Norte.
9 but the latter will invade the kingdom of the king of the south, then retire to his own country.	9 Este último penetrará entonces en el reino del rey del Sur, y luego regresará a su país.
10 His sons wil next be on the march, mustering a host of powerful forces; and he wil advance, deploy,break through and march on the southern stronghold once again.	10 Los hijos del rey del Norte reanudarán las hostilidades y reunirán una gran multitud de tropas. Uno de ellos irrumpirá como un río desbordado, inundará y llevará las hostilidades hasta su fortaleza.
11 The king of the south wil fly into a rage and set out to give battle to the king of the north, who wilhave an immense army on his side, but this army wil be defeated by him.	11 El rey del Sur se irritará y saldrá a combatir contra el rey del Norte. Este pondrá en pie de guerra una gran multitud, pero ella caerá en manos del rey del Sur.
12 The army wil be annihilated; he wil be triumphant; he wil overthrow tens of thousands; yet he wilhave no enduring strength.	12 La multitud será aniquilada; entonces se ensoberbecerá su corazón y abatirá a millares de hombres, pero ya no será el más fuerte.
13 The king of the north wil come back, having recruited an even larger army than before, and final y,after some years, he wil advance a second time with a great army and plentiful supplies.	13 El rey del Norte pondrá otra vez en pie de guerra una multitud más grande que la primera y, al cabo de algunos años, irrumpirá con un gran ejército y muy bien pertrechado.
14 At that time, many wil take up arms against the king of the south, and the more violent of your ownpeople wil rebel in the hope of realising the vision; but they will fail.	14 En aquellos tiempos, se alzarán muchos contra el rey del Sur, y unos hombres violentos de tu pueblo se levantarán para dar cumplimiento a una visión, pero fracasarán.
15 The king of the north wil then come and throw up siege-works to capture a strongly fortified city. The forces of the south wil not stand their ground; the pick of the people will not be strong enough to resist.	15 El rey del Norte vendrá, levantará terraplenes y tomará una ciudad fortificada. Las fuerzas del Sur no resistirán, y ni siquiera sus tropas escogidas tendrán vigor para resistir.
16 The invader wil do as he pleases, no one wil be able to resist him: he will take his stand in the Landof Splendour, destruction in his hands.	16 El invasor hará lo que le parezca y nadie se le opondrá; se instalará en el país de la Hermosura, y el país entero caerá en sus manos.
17 He wil set about conquering his entire kingdom, but wil then make a treaty with him and, tooverthrow the kingdom, give him a woman's hand; but this wil not last or be to his advantage.	17 Entonces se dispondrá a someter todo el reino del Sur, y concertará un acuerdo con él: le dará una mujer excepcional para destruirlo, pero eso no perdurará ni le dará resultado.
18 He wil next turn to the coasts and islands and conquer many of them, but a magistrate wil put a stopto his outrages in such a way that he wil be unable to repay outrage for outrage.	18 Se volverá hacia las regiones costeras, y conquistará un buen número de ellas; pero un magistrado acabará con el ultraje, sin que él pueda devolverle la afrenta.
19 'He wil then turn on the strongholds of his own country, but wil stumble, fall, and never be seenagain.	19 Luego se volverá hacia las fortalezas de su país, pero tropezará, caerá y no se lo encontrará más.
20 In his place there wil rise a man who wil send an extortioner to despoil the royal splendour; in a fewdays he wil be shattered, though neither publicly nor in battle.	20 En lugar de él, surgirá uno que hará pasar a un recaudador de tributos por la tierra más hermosa del reino, pero en unos días será destrozado, aunque no de frente ni en la guerra.
21 'In his place wil rise a wretch: royal honours wil not be given to him, but rather he wil insinuatehimself into them at his pleasure and wil gain possession of the kingdom by intrigue.	21 En lugar de él, surgirá un plebeyo, que no estará investido de la dignidad real. El llegará tranquilamente y se adueñará de la realeza por medio de intrigas.
22 Armies will be utterly routed and crushed by him, the Prince of the covenant too.	22 Las fuerzas opositoras serán barridas ante él y quedarán destrozadas, así como también el príncipe de la Alianza.
23 Through his alliances he wil act treacherously and, despite the smal ness of his fol owing, grow everstronger.	23 Se valdrá de los pactos concertados con él para actuar dolosamente: así se encumbrará y se hará fuerte con poca gente.
24 At his pleasure, he wil invade rich provinces, acting as his fathers or his fathers' fathers never acted,distributing among them plunder, spoil and wealth, plotting his stratagems against the fortresses -- for a time.	24 Entrará tranquilamente en las regiones más fértiles de la provincia, y hará lo que no habían hecho ni sus padres ni los padres de sus padres: distribuirá entre su gente botín, despojos y riquezas, y hará planes contra las fortalezas, pero sólo por un tiempo.
25 'He wil summon up his might and courage against the king of the south with a great army. The kingof the south wil march to war with a huge and powerful army but wil not succeed, since he will be outwitted bytrickery.	25 Al frente de un gran ejército, excitará su fuerza y su coraje contra el rey del Sur, y este entrará en guerra con un gran ejército, extremadamente fuerte, pero no resistirá, porque se confabularán contra él.
26 Those who shared his food wil ruin him; his army wil be swept away, many wil fall in the slaughter.	26 Los mismos que comían de sus manjares lo destrozarán, su ejército será barrido y caerán muchas víctimas.
27 'The two kings, seated at one table, hearts bent on evil, wil tell their lies; but they will not have theirway, for the appointed time is stil to come.	27 Los dos reyes, llenos de malas intenciones, se dirán mentiras sentados a la misma mesa; pero no se logrará nada, porque el tiempo fijado todavía está por venir.
28 Then the wretch wil return greatly enriched to his own country, his heart set against the holycovenant; he wil take action and then return to his own country.	28 El regresará a su país con grandes riquezas y lleno de aversión contra la Alianza santa: actuará y luego regresará a su país.
29 In due time, he will make his way southwards again, but this time the outcome wil not be as before.	29 En el tiempo fijado, retornará al Sur, pero esta última vez no será como la primera.
30 The ships of the Kittim wil oppose him, and he wil be worsted. He wil retire and take furious actionagainst the holy covenant and, as before, wil favour those who forsake that holy covenant.	30 Naves de Quitím vendrán contra él, y se desanimará; se volverá atrás y desahogará su furor contra la Alianza santa; a su regreso, llegará a un entendimiento con aquellos que abandonen la Alianza santa.
31 'Forces of his wil come and profane the Citadel-Sanctuary; they will abolish the perpetual sacrificeand instal the appal ing abomination there.	31 Fuerzas enviadas por él atacarán, profanarán el Santuario y la Ciudadela, abolirán el sacrificio perpetuo e instalarán la Abominación de la desolación.
32 Those who break the covenant he wil seduce by his blandishments, but the people who know theirGod will stand firm and take action.	32 Por medio de intrigas, él hará apostatar a los transgresores de la Alianza, pero el pueblo de los que conocen a Dios se mantendrá firme y entrará en acción.
33 Those of the people who are wise leaders wil instruct many; for some days, however, they wilstumble from sword and flame, captivity and pil age.	33 Hombres prudentes del pueblo instruirán a muchos, pero serán víctimas de la espada y del fuego, del cautiverio y del saqueo, durante algunos días.
34 And thus stumbling, little help wil they receive, though many will be scheming in their support.	34 Mientras ellos caigan, recibirán un poco de ayuda, y muchos se unirán a ellos, pero hipócritamente.
35 Of the wise leaders some wil stumble, and so a number of them wil be purged, purified and madeclean -- until the time of the End, for the appointed time is stil to come.	35 Algunos de los hombres prudentes caerán, a fin de ser purificados, acrisolados y blanqueados, hasta el tiempo del Fin, porque el plazo está fijado.
36 'The king wil do as he pleases, growing more and more arrogant, considering himself greater thanal the gods; he will utter incredible blasphemies against the God of gods, and he wil thrive until the wrathreaches bursting point; for what has been decreed wil certainly be fulfil ed.	36 El rey obrará a su arbitrio, se exaltará y engrandecerá por encima de todo dios, y dirá cosas monstruosas contra el Dios de los dioses. Y tendrá éxito hasta que se agote la Ira, porque lo que está decretado se ejecutará.
37 Heedless of his fathers' gods, heedless of the god whom women love, heedless of any godwhatever, he wil consider himself greatest of al .	37 El no respetará a los dioses de sus padres, ni al dios favorito de las mujeres; no respetará a ninguna divinidad, porque se engrandecerá por encima de todo.
38 Instead of them, he wil honour the god of fortresses, will honour a god unknown to his ancestorswith gold and silver, precious stones and valuable presents.	38 En su lugar honrará al dios de las fortalezas: honrará a un dios que no conocieron sus padres, con oro, plata, piedras preciosas y objetos de valor.
39 He wil use the people of an alien god to defend the fortresses; he will confer great honours on thosewhom he acknowledges, by giving them wide authority and by parcel ing the country out for rent.	39 Utilizará como defensores de la fortaleza al pueblo de un dios extranjero; y a todo el que lo reconozca lo colmará de honores, le dará autoridad sobre muchos y le distribuirá parcelas de tierra.
40 'When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king ofthe north wil come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He wil invade countries,overrun them and drive on.	40 En el tiempo del Fin, el rey del Sur acometerá contra él. El rey del Norte lo atacará como un torbellino, con carros de guerra, caballería y numerosas naves; penetrará en los países como un río desbordado y los inundará.
41 He wil invade the Land of Splendour, and many wil fal ; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of thesons of Ammon wil escape him.	41 Entrará en el país de la Hermosura, y caerán millares de hombres, pero se librarán de su mano Edom, Moab y el resto de los amonitas.
42 'He wil reach out to attack countries: Egypt will not escape him.	42 Extenderá su mano sobre los países, y el país de Egipto no escapará.
43 The gold and silver treasures and al the valuables of Egypt wil lie in his power. Libyans andCushites wil be at his feet:	43 Se adueñará de los tesoros de oro y plata, y de todos los objetos preciosos de Egipto; los libios y los cusitas marcharán en su séquito.
44 but reports coming from the East and the north wil worry him, and in great fury he wil set out to bringruin and complete destruction to many.	44 Pero noticias llegadas de Oriente y del Norte lo llenarán de espanto; entonces partirá lleno de furor para destruir y exterminar a mucha gente.
45 He wil pitch the tents of his royal headquarters between the sea and the mountains of the HolySplendour. Yet he wil come to his end -- there wil be no help for him.'	45 Plantará los pabellones de su palacio entre el mar y la montaña santa de la Hermosura, y luego llegará a su fin, sin que nadie venga en su ayuda.
