1 Then he shouted loudly for me to hear, 'The scourges of the city are approaching, each carrying hisweapon of destruction!'	1 Ed egli con gran voce gridò nei miei orecchi: « I castighi della città son vicini, ognuno ha in mano lo strumento per uccidere, ».
2 Immediately six men advanced from the upper north gate, each holding a deadly weapon. Among themwas a man dressed in linen, with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt. They came in and halted in front of the bronzealtar.	2 Ed ecco venir sei uomini per la via della porta superiore, che guarda a settentrione; ciascuno aveva in mano uno strumento di morte; in mezzo a loro vi era pure un uomo vestito di lino, che aveva appeso ai fianchi un calamaio per scrivere. Entrarono e si fermarono presso l'altare di bronzo.
3 The glory of the God of Israel rose from above the winged creature where it had been, towards thethreshold of the Temple. He cal ed to the man dressed in linen with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt	3 E la gloria del Signore d'Israele si alzò al di sopra dei Cherubini, sui quali stava, e andò alla soglia della casa. E, chiamato l'uomo che era vestito di lino ed aveva ai fianchi il calamaio,
4 and Yahweh said to him, 'Go al through the city, al through Jerusalem, and mark a cross on theforeheads of all who grieve and lament over al the loathsome practices in it.'	4 il Signore gli disse: « Va per la città, per mezzo a Gerusalemme, e segna un Tau sulle fronti degli uomini che gemono e piangono per tutte le abominazioni che vi si commettono ».
5 I heard him say to the others, 'Fol ow him through the city and strike. Not one glance of pity; show nomercy;	5 E agli altri, mentre io sentivo, disse: « Andate per la città dietro a lui e colpite: non s'impietosisca il vostro occhio, siate senza misericordia.
6 old men, young men, girls, children, women, kil and exterminate them al . But do not touch anyone witha cross on his forehead. Begin at my sanctuary.' So they began with the old men who were in the Temple.	6 Uccidete vecchi, giovani, vergini, bambini, donne, fino allo sterminio; tutti quelli però sopra i quali vedrete il Tau non li uccidete, e cmninciate dal mio santuario ». Cominciarono dunque da quelli anziani che eran davanti al tempio.
7 He said to them, 'Defile the Temple; fill the courts with corpses; then go out!' They went out and hackedtheir way through the city.	7 E disse loro: « Contaminate la casa e riempite i cortili di uccisi. Uscite ». Ed essi uscirono a colpire quelli che erano nella città.
8 While they were hacking them down, I was left alone; I fel on my face, crying out, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,are you going to annihilate al that is left of Israel by venting your fury on Jerusalem?'	8 E finita la strage, io rimasi e mi gettai bocconi, e alzando le grida, dico: «Ahi, ahi, ahi! Signore Dio, disperderai dunque tutti gli avanzi d'Israele, versando il tuo furore sopra Gerusalemme? »
9 He said, 'The guilt of the House of Israel and Judah is immense; the country is ful of bloodshed, the cityful of perversity, for they say, "Yahweh has abandoned the country, Yahweh cannot see."	9 E mi disse: « L'iniquità della casa d'Israele e di Giuda è grande, troppo grande, e la terra è piena di sangue, e la città è piena di ribellione, perchè van dicendo: Il Signore ha abbandonata la terra, il Signore non vede.
10 Then, I too shal neither give one glance of pity nor show any mercy. I shal repay them for what theyhave done.'	10 Per questo il mio occhio non avrà pietà, sarò senza misericordia: le loro opere le farò ricadere sopra il loro capo ».
11 The man dressed in linen with the scribe's ink-horn in his belt then came back and made his report, 'Ihave carried out your orders.'	11 Ed ecco che l'uomo vestito di lino e munito di calamaio ai fianchi portò la risposta dicendo: « Ho fatto come tu mi hai comandato ».
