1 Then he shouted loudly for me to hear, 'The scourges of the city are approaching, each carrying hisweapon of destruction!'	1 Il cria de toutes ses forces à mes oreilles: “Approchez, châtiments de la ville! Que chacun tienne en main son instrument de mort!”
2 Immediately six men advanced from the upper north gate, each holding a deadly weapon. Among themwas a man dressed in linen, with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt. They came in and halted in front of the bronzealtar.	2 Et voici que six hommes arrivent du côté de la Porte-Haute qui regarde vers le nord: chacun tient en main un instrument de mort, et je vois au milieu d’eux un homme habillé de lin avec une écritoire de scribe à la ceinture. Ils viennent se placer à côté de l’autel de bronze,
3 The glory of the God of Israel rose from above the winged creature where it had been, towards thethreshold of the Temple. He cal ed to the man dressed in linen with a scribe's ink-horn in his belt	3 et aussitôt la Gloire du Dieu d’Israël, qui jusque-là reposait sur les Chérubins, s’élève en direction de la porte du Temple. Il appelle l’homme habillé de lin qui porte une écritoire de scribe à la ceinture,
4 and Yahweh said to him, 'Go al through the city, al through Jerusalem, and mark a cross on theforeheads of all who grieve and lament over al the loathsome practices in it.'	4 et il lui dit: “Parcours Jérusalem, tu marqueras d’une croix au front les hommes qui se lamentent et qui gémissent sur toutes ces pratiques scandaleuses qui se commettent dans cette ville.”
5 I heard him say to the others, 'Fol ow him through the city and strike. Not one glance of pity; show nomercy;	5 Puis il dit aux autres, de façon que je l’entende: “Parcourez la ville derrière lui et frappez. N’épargnez personne, que votre œil soit sans pitié.
6 old men, young men, girls, children, women, kil and exterminate them al . But do not touch anyone witha cross on his forehead. Begin at my sanctuary.' So they began with the old men who were in the Temple.	6 Vieillards, jeunes gens, jeunes filles, enfants et femmes, tuez-les tous jusqu’à extermination. Mais vous ne toucherez pas à ceux qui ont sur eux la croix. Vous commencerez par mon Sanctuaire.” Ils commencèrent donc par les gens qui se trouvaient là devant le Temple.
7 He said to them, 'Defile the Temple; fill the courts with corpses; then go out!' They went out and hackedtheir way through the city.	7 Il leur avait dit, en effet: “Remplissez les cours de cadavres, le Temple en sera souillé; ensuite vous sortirez et vous frapperez dans la ville.”
8 While they were hacking them down, I was left alone; I fel on my face, crying out, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,are you going to annihilate al that is left of Israel by venting your fury on Jerusalem?'	8 Pendant qu’ils frappaient ainsi, ( ) je tombai la face contre terre, je criais et lui disais: “Ah! Yahvé, vas-tu donc répandre ta fureur sur Jérusalem et détruire ( ) ce qui reste d’Israël?”
9 He said, 'The guilt of the House of Israel and Judah is immense; the country is ful of bloodshed, the cityful of perversity, for they say, "Yahweh has abandoned the country, Yahweh cannot see."	9 Il me répondit: “La faute de la maison d’Israël et de Juda est trop grande, elle est sans mesure; le pays est rempli de sang et la ville est pleine d’injustice. Ils se disent: Yahvé ne s’occupe pas du pays, Yahvé ne voit rien.
10 Then, I too shal neither give one glance of pity nor show any mercy. I shal repay them for what theyhave done.'	10 Pour cela à mon tour je ne les épargnerai pas, mon œil sera sans pitié. Je ferai retomber sur leur tête leur propre conduite.”
11 The man dressed in linen with the scribe's ink-horn in his belt then came back and made his report, 'Ihave carried out your orders.'	11 À ce moment-là, l’homme habillé de lin qui avait une écritoire à la ceinture vint rendre compte; il déclara: “J’ai fait tout ce que tu m’avais ordonné.”
