NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 And so the Lord has carried out the sentence which he passed on us, on our judges who governedIsrael, on our kings and leaders and on the people of Israel and of Judah;	1 Per questo il Signore ha attuato la sua parola che aveva pronunciato contro di noi e contro i nostri giudici che hanno governato Israele, contro i nostri re e contro i nostri prìncipi, contro gli uomini di Giuda e d'Israele.
2 what he did to Jerusalem has never been paral eled under the wide heavens -- in conformity with whatwas written in the Law of Moses;	2 Non è mai avvenuto sotto il cielo quanto è stato fatto in Gerusalemme, secondo ciò che è scritto nella legge di Mosè,
3 we were each reduced to eating the flesh of our own sons and daughters.	3 che noi saremmo arrivati a mangiare l'uno la carne del proprio figlio e l'altro la carne della propria figlia.
4 Furthermore, he has handed them over into the power of all the kingdoms that surround us, to be thecontempt and execration of all the neighbouring peoples among whom the Lord scattered them.	4 Li ha dati, poi, in potere a tutti i regni che stanno intorno, a scherno e a desolazione tra tutti i popoli fra i quali il Signore li ha dispersi.
5 Instead of being masters, they found themselves enslaved, because we had sinned against the Lord ourGod by not listening to his voice.	5 Divennero schiavi e non padroni, perché peccammo contro il Signore, Dio nostro, per non aver ascoltato la sua voce.
6 Saving justice is the Lord's; we and our ancestors have only the look of shame we bear today.	6 Al Signore, Dio nostro, la giustizia; a noi, invece, e ai nostri padri, il rossore dei volti come avviene oggi.
7 Al those disasters which the Lord pronounced against us have now befallen us.	7 I mali che il Signore aveva minacciato contro di noi ci sono venuti tutti addosso.
8 And yet we have not tried to win the favour of the Lord by each of us renouncing the dictates of our ownwicked heart;	8 Non abbiamo placato la faccia del Signore convertendoci ciascuno dai pensieri del proprio cuore malvagio.
9 so the Lord has been alert to our misdeeds and has brought disaster down on us, since the Lord isupright in everything he had commanded us to do,	9 Il Signore ha vigilato sopra questi mali e li ha fatti venire sopra di noi perché il Signore è giusto in tutte le opere che ci ha comandato.
10 and we have not listened to his voice so as to fol ow the commandments which the Lord had ordainedfor us.	10 Noi, però, non abbiamo ascoltato la sua voce camminando nei precetti che il Signore ci aveva posto davanti".
11 And now, Lord, God of Israel, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with signs andwonders, with great power and with outstretched arm, to win yourself a name such as you have today,	11 "Ed ora, o Signore, Dio di Israele, che hai fatto uscire il tuo popolo dal paese di Egitto con mano robusta, con segni e prodigi, con grande potenza e con braccio elevato, e ti sei fatto un nome come avviene oggi stesso,
12 we have sinned, we have committed sacrilege; Lord our God, we have broken al your precepts.	12 abbiamo peccato, siamo stati empi, siamo stati ingiusti, o Signore Dio nostro, riguardo a tutti i tuoi precetti.
13 Let your anger turn from us since we are no more than a little remnant among the nations where youhave dispersed us.	13 Si allontani da noi il tuo sdegno, perché siamo rimasti pochi tra le nazioni dove ci hai dispersi.
14 Listen, Lord, to our prayers and our entreaties; deliver us for your own sake and let us win the favour ofthe people who have deported us,	14 Ascolta, Signore, la nostra preghiera e la nostra supplica e liberaci per te stesso e dacci grazia dinanzi a coloro che ci hanno deportato,
15 so that the whole world may know that you are the Lord our God, since Israel and his descendantsbear your name.	15 affinché conosca tutta la terra che tu sei il Signore, Dio nostro, e che il tuo nome è stato invocato sopra Israele e sopra la sua progenie.
16 Look down, Lord, from your holy dwel ing-place and think of us, bow your ear and listen,	16 Signore, riguarda dalla tua santa casa e pensa a noi; piega, o Signore, i tuoi orecchi e ascolta.
17 open your eyes, Lord, and look; the dead down in Sheol, whose breath has been taken from theirbodies, are not the ones to give glory and due recognition to the Lord;	17 Apri, o Signore, i tuoi occhi e considera: non saranno, infatti, i morti negl'inferi, il cui spirito è stato tolto dalle loro viscere, che daranno gloria e giustizia al Signore,
18 whoever is overcome with affliction, who goes along bowed down and frail, with failing eyes andhungering soul, that is the one to give you glory and due recognition, Lord.	18 ma sarà piuttosto l'anima gravemente afflitta, sarà chi cammina curvo e debole, gli occhi sfiniti e l'anima indigente, che darà a te gloria e giustizia, o Signore.
19 We do not rely on the merits of our ancestors and of our kings to offer you our humble plea, Lord ourGod.	19 Poiché non per i meriti dei padri nostri e dei nostri re noi rivolgiamo a te la nostra invocazione, o Signore, Dio nostro.
20 No, you have sent down your anger and your fury on us, as you threatened through your servants theprophets when they said,	20 Perché tu hai riversato il tuo sdegno e la tua ira contro di noi, come avevi annunziato per mezzo dei servi tuoi, i profeti, dicendo:
21 'The Lord says this: Bend your necks and serve the king of Babylon, and you wil remain in the countrywhich I gave to your ancestors.	21 "Così dice il Signore: Piegate il vostro collo e servite al re di Babilonia, così dimorerete nel paese che io ho dato ai padri vostri.
22 But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and serve the king of Babylon	22 Ma se non volete ascoltare la voce del Signore, servendo al re di Babilonia,
23 then I shal silence the shouts of rejoicing and mirth and the voices of bridegroom and bride in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, and the whole country will be reduced to desert, with noinhabitants.'	23 farò cessare dalle città di Giuda e fuori di Gerusalemme la voce dell'allegria, la voce della gioia, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa e tutto il paese sarà desolato e senza abitanti".
24 But we would not listen to your voice and serve the king of Babylon, and so you carried out what youhad threatened through your servants the prophets: that the bones of our kings and of our ancestors would bedragged from their resting places.	24 Noi, però, non abbiamo ascoltato la tua voce servendo il re di Babilonia e così hai realizzato le parole che tu avevi pronunciato per mezzo dei tuoi servi, i profeti; cioè, che le ossa dei nostri re e le ossa dei nostri padri sarebbero state rimosse dal loro sepolcro.
25 They were indeed tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night. And people died indreadful agony, from famine, sword and plague.	25 Ora, ecco che stanno esposte al calore del giorno e al gelo della notte. Sono morti di pene atroci, di fame, di spada e di peste,
26 And so, because of the wickedness of the House of Israel and the House of Judah, you have madethis House, that bears your name, what it is today.	26 e hai fatto della casa, sulla quale è stato invocato il tuo nome, quello che si vede oggi stesso, a causa della malvagità della casa d'Israele e della casa di Giuda.
27 And yet, Lord our God, you have treated us in a way worthy of al your goodness and boundlesstenderness,	27 Nonostante ciò, tu hai agito verso di noi secondo la tua totale bontà e secondo tutta la tua grande misericordia, o Signore, Dio nostro,
28 just as you had promised through your servant Moses, the day you told him to write your Law in thepresence of the Israelites, and said,	28 come tu avevi parlato per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè nel giorno in cui gli ordinasti di scrivere la tua legge dinanzi a tutti i figli d'Israele dicendo:
29 'If you do not listen to my voice, this great and innumerable multitude wil certainly be reduced to a tinyfew among the nations where I shal scatter them-	29 "Se non ascolterete la mia voce, di sicuro, questa grande moltitudine sarà ridotta a un piccolo numero tra le nazioni dove io li disperderò;
30 for I knew that, being an obstinate people, they would not listen to me. But in the country of their exile,they will come to themselves	30 poiché io so che non mi daranno ascolto, essendo un popolo di cervice dura. Tuttavia nel paese del loro esilio rientreranno nel loro cuore
31 and acknowledge that I am the Lord their God. I shal give them a heart and an attentive ear,	31 e riconosceranno che io sono il Signore, Dio loro. Allora io darò loro un cuore e orecchi che ascoltano
32 and they will sing my praises in the country of their exile, they will remember my name;	32 ed essi mi daranno lode nel paese del loro esilio, si ricorderanno del mio nome
33 they wil stop being obstinate and, remembering what became of their ancestors who sinned before theLord, will turn from their evil deeds.	33 e si convertiranno dalla loro durezza e dalle loro azioni malvagie, poiché ricorderanno la condotta dei loro padri che peccarono contro il Signore.
34 Then I shal bring them back to the country which I promised on oath to their ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob, and make them masters in it. I shal make their numbers grow; they wil not dwindle again.	34 Io allora li ricondurrò nel paese che giurai ai padri loro, ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe, e ne avranno il dominio. Io li moltiplicherò e non diminuiranno.
35 And I shal make an everlasting covenant with them; so that I am their God and they are my people.And never again shal I drive my people Israel out of the country which I have given them.'	35 Io stabilirò con loro un'alleanza perenne per cui io sarò per essi il loro Dio ed essi saranno per me il mio popolo e non scaccerò più il popolo mio Israele dal paese che ho dato loro".
