1 And so the Lord has carried out the sentence which he passed on us, on our judges who governedIsrael, on our kings and leaders and on the people of Israel and of Judah;	1 Per la qual cosa il Signore Dio nostro adempiè la sua parola annunziata a, noi, e a' nostri giudici, che giudicavano Israele, e a' nostri re, e a' nostri principi, e a tutto Israele, e Giuda,
2 what he did to Jerusalem has never been paral eled under the wide heavens -- in conformity with whatwas written in the Law of Moses;	2 Che il Signore avrebbe mandati sopra di noi mali grandi, che non eran avvenuti mai sotto del cielo, quali sono stati in Gerusalemme conforme a quel, che sta scritto nella legge di Mosè;
3 we were each reduced to eating the flesh of our own sons and daughters.	3 E che avrebbe mangiato l'uomo le carni del proprio figliuolo, e della figlia.
4 Furthermore, he has handed them over into the power of all the kingdoms that surround us, to be thecontempt and execration of all the neighbouring peoples among whom the Lord scattered them.	4 E diegli il Signore in potere di tutti i re, che ci stanno all'intorno, e li fece lo scherno, e l'esempio d'infelicità presso tutti i popoli, tra' quali il Signor ci disperse.
5 Instead of being masters, they found themselves enslaved, because we had sinned against the Lord ourGod by not listening to his voice.	5 E siam divenuti servi, e non padroni, perché abbiam peccato contro il Signore Dio nostro, non ascoltando la sua voce.
6 Saving justice is the Lord's; we and our ancestors have only the look of shame we bear today.	6 Al Signore Dio nostro s'appartiene la giustizia, ma a noi, ed a' padri nostri la confusione del volto, com'oggi addiviene;
7 Al those disasters which the Lord pronounced against us have now befallen us.	7 Perocché il Signore tutti questi mali ci aveva minacciati, che sono caduti sopra di noi:
8 And yet we have not tried to win the favour of the Lord by each of us renouncing the dictates of our ownwicked heart;	8 E non siamo andati dinanzi al Signore Dio nostro a piegarlo, affinchè ci convenissimo ognun di noi dalle pessime vie nostre.
9 so the Lord has been alert to our misdeeds and has brought disaster down on us, since the Lord isupright in everything he had commanded us to do,	9 E il Signore fu pronto al gastigo, e mandollo sopra di noi; perocché giusto è il Signore in tutte le opere sue, e in quello, che ha a noi comandato:
10 and we have not listened to his voice so as to fol ow the commandments which the Lord had ordainedfor us.	10 E noi alla sua voce non ubbidimmo per camminare secondo i comandamenti del Signore i quali egli ci avea posti davanti.
11 And now, Lord, God of Israel, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with signs andwonders, with great power and with outstretched arm, to win yourself a name such as you have today,	11 E adesso, o Signore Dio d'Israele che traesti il popolo dalla terra d'Egitto, con mano forte, e per mezzo di segni e prodigi, e colla tua gran possanza e col disteso tuo braccio, e ti facesti un nome, quale oggi tu l'hai.
12 we have sinned, we have committed sacrilege; Lord our God, we have broken al your precepts.	12 Noi abbiam peccato, abbiamo operato empiamente, iniquamente ci siamo diportarti, o Signore Dio nostro, contro tutti i tuoi comandamenti;
13 Let your anger turn from us since we are no more than a little remnant among the nations where youhave dispersed us.	13 Si allontani da noi l'ira tua; perocchè siam rimasi ben pochi tralle nazioni, dove tu ci hai dispersi.
14 Listen, Lord, to our prayers and our entreaties; deliver us for your own sake and let us win the favour ofthe people who have deported us,	14 Esaudisci o Signore le nostre orazioni, e le nostre suppliche, e tu ci libera per amor di te stesso, e fa che noi troviam grazia dinanzi a coloro, che ci hanno spatriati;
15 so that the whole world may know that you are the Lord our God, since Israel and his descendantsbear your name.	15 Affinchè la terra tutta conosca, che tu se' il Signore Dio nostro, e che Israele,e tutta la stirpe di lui porta il tuo nome.
16 Look down, Lord, from your holy dwel ing-place and think of us, bow your ear and listen,	16 Volgi, o Signore, lo sguardo sopra di noi dalla casa tua santa, e porgi le tue orecchie, e ascoltaci.
17 open your eyes, Lord, and look; the dead down in Sheol, whose breath has been taken from theirbodies, are not the ones to give glory and due recognition to the Lord;	17 Apri gli occhi tuoi, e pon mente che non i morti, che son nell'inferno, de' quali lo spirito o separato dalle lor viscere, renderanno onore alla giustizia del Signore:
18 whoever is overcome with affliction, who goes along bowed down and frail, with failing eyes andhungering soul, that is the one to give you glory and due recognition, Lord.	18 Ma l'anima che è afflitta per la grandezza de' mali, e curva, e languente cammina, e gli occhi abbattati, e l'anima famelica glorifica te, e la tua giustizia, o Signore.
19 We do not rely on the merits of our ancestors and of our kings to offer you our humble plea, Lord ourGod.	19 Imperocché non fondati colla giustizia de' padri nostri noi versiamo preghiere, e imploriamo misericordia al tuo cospetto, Signore Dio nostro;
20 No, you have sent down your anger and your fury on us, as you threatened through your servants theprophets when they said,	20 Ma perché tu hai versato l'ira tua, e il tuo furore sopra di noi, come predicesti per mezzo de' servi tuoi, i profeti, dicendo:
21 'The Lord says this: Bend your necks and serve the king of Babylon, and you wil remain in the countrywhich I gave to your ancestors.	21 Cosi dice il Signore: Chinate le vostre spalle, e le vostre teste, e servite al re di Babilonia, e avrete quiete nella terra ch'io diedi a' padri vostri.
22 But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and serve the king of Babylon	22 Che se non ascolterete il comando del Signore Dio vostro, di servire al re di Babilonia, vi farò cacciare dalle città di Giuda, e fuor di Gerusalemme,
23 then I shal silence the shouts of rejoicing and mirth and the voices of bridegroom and bride in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, and the whole country will be reduced to desert, with noinhabitants.'	23 E torrò da voi i canti di letizia, e di gaudio, e il canto dello sposo, e il canto della sposa, e tutta la terra sarà senza vestigia di chi la abiti.
24 But we would not listen to your voice and serve the king of Babylon, and so you carried out what youhad threatened through your servants the prophets: that the bones of our kings and of our ancestors would bedragged from their resting places.	24 Ma eglino non ascoltarono la tua voce, né servirono al re di Babilonia e tu adempiesti le tue parole annunziate per mezzo de' servi tuoi, i profeti, talmente che tolte fosser le ossa de' nostri re, e le ossa de' padri nostri dal luogo loro:
25 They were indeed tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night. And people died indreadful agony, from famine, sword and plague.	25 Ed ecco che sono state gettate al calore del sole, e al gelo della notte; o quelli morirono tra' dolori crudeli di fame, e di spada, e di peste mandata (da te.)
26 And so, because of the wickedness of the House of Israel and the House of Judah, you have madethis House, that bears your name, what it is today.	26 E il tempio, che portava il tuo nome, lo riducesti qual egli è in oggi per ragion dell'iniquità della casa d'Israele, e della casa di Giuda.
27 And yet, Lord our God, you have treated us in a way worthy of al your goodness and boundlesstenderness,	27 E ti diportasti verso di noi, o Signore Dio nostro, con tutta la tua bontà, e con tutta quella tua misericordia grande;
28 just as you had promised through your servant Moses, the day you told him to write your Law in thepresence of the Israelites, and said,	28 Conforme avevi predetto per Mosè tuo servo nel giorno, in cui gli ordinasti di scrivere la tua legge pe' figliuoli d'Israele,
29 'If you do not listen to my voice, this great and innumerable multitude wil certainly be reduced to a tinyfew among the nations where I shal scatter them-	29 Dicendo: Se voi non ascolterete la mia voce, questa moltitudine grande si ridurrà ad essere la minima delle nazioni, tralle quali io la spergerò:
30 for I knew that, being an obstinate people, they would not listen to me. But in the country of their exile,they will come to themselves	30 Perocché io so, che il popolo non mi ascolterà; perché è un popolo di dura cervice: ma rientrerà in se nella terra, dove sarà schiavo;
31 and acknowledge that I am the Lord their God. I shal give them a heart and an attentive ear,	31 E conosceran, che io sono il Signore Dio, e darò loro un cuore, e intenderanno, e orecchie, e udiranno.
32 and they will sing my praises in the country of their exile, they will remember my name;	32 E daran laude a me nella terra di lor schiavitù, e si ricorderan del mio nome.
33 they wil stop being obstinate and, remembering what became of their ancestors who sinned before theLord, will turn from their evil deeds.	33 E lasceranno il duro lor dorso, e la loro malignità; perocché si ricorderanno di quel, che fu de' padri loro, che peccaron contro di me.
34 Then I shal bring them back to the country which I promised on oath to their ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob, and make them masters in it. I shal make their numbers grow; they wil not dwindle again.	34 E li richiamerò nella terra, che io promisi con giuramento a' padri loro, Abramo, Isacco, e Giacobho e ne avranno il dominio, e li moltiplicherò, e non diminuiranno.
35 And I shal make an everlasting covenant with them; so that I am their God and they are my people.And never again shal I drive my people Israel out of the country which I have given them.'	35 E fermerò con essi un'altra alleanza sempiterna, ond'io sia loro Dio, com'ei saranno mio popolo: e non moverò più il mio popolo, i figliuoli di Israele dalla terra, che ho data ad essi.
