NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 And so the Lord has carried out the sentence which he passed on us, on our judges who governedIsrael, on our kings and leaders and on the people of Israel and of Judah;	1 - Per questo il Signore Dio nostro ha mantenuta la sua parola pronunciata contro di noi, e contro i nostri giudici che avevano giudicato Israele, e contro i nostri re e i nostri principi, e tutto il popolo d'Israele e di Giuda,
2 what he did to Jerusalem has never been paral eled under the wide heavens -- in conformity with whatwas written in the Law of Moses;	2 di far venire sopra di noi sciagure grandi che mai non furono sotto il cielo, quali sono avvenute in Gerusalemme, così com'erano state scritte nelle leggi di Mosè,
3 we were each reduced to eating the flesh of our own sons and daughters.	3 da ridursi l'uomo a mangiare le carni del proprio figlio e le carni della propria figlia.
4 Furthermore, he has handed them over into the power of all the kingdoms that surround us, to be thecontempt and execration of all the neighbouring peoples among whom the Lord scattered them.	4 E li diede in mano a tutti i re che ci stanno intorno, in ischerno e in esecrazione di tutti i popoli fra i quali il Signore ci ha dispersi.
5 Instead of being masters, they found themselves enslaved, because we had sinned against the Lord ourGod by not listening to his voice.	5 E siamo rimasti al di sotto e non al di sopra, perchè abbiamo peccato contro il Signore Dio nostro, col non obbedire alla sua voce.
6 Saving justice is the Lord's; we and our ancestors have only the look of shame we bear today.	6 Al Signore Dio nostro la giustizia, a noi e ai nostri padri la confusione della faccia, com'è al presente per noi.
7 Al those disasters which the Lord pronounced against us have now befallen us.	7 Perchè il Signore aveva annunziato tutti questi maliche son venuti sopra di noi,
8 And yet we have not tried to win the favour of the Lord by each of us renouncing the dictates of our ownwicked heart;	8 e non abbiamo propiziato la faccia del Signore Dio nostro col ritrarci ciascuno di noi dalle nostre pessime vie.
9 so the Lord has been alert to our misdeeds and has brought disaster down on us, since the Lord isupright in everything he had commanded us to do,	9 E il Signore fu vigile sui mali, e li fece venire su di noi; perchè il Signore è giusto in tutte le sue opere delle quali ci ha fatto comandamento.
10 and we have not listened to his voice so as to fol ow the commandments which the Lord had ordainedfor us.	10 Ma noi non abbiamo dato ascolto alla sua vocedi camminare secondo i precetti del Signoreche aveva messo dinanzi agli sguardi nostri.
11 And now, Lord, God of Israel, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with signs andwonders, with great power and with outstretched arm, to win yourself a name such as you have today,	11 E ora, Signore Dio d'Israele, che hai condotto fuor dell'Egitto il tuo popolo, con la tua robusta mano e con miracoli e prodigi, con la tua grande potenza e col braccio alzato, e hai reso famoso il tuo nome, com'è al giorno d'oggi,
12 we have sinned, we have committed sacrilege; Lord our God, we have broken al your precepts.	12 noi abbiamo peccato e operato empiamente, abbiamo fatto il male, Signore Dio nostro, colla trasgressione di tutti i tuoi precetti.
13 Let your anger turn from us since we are no more than a little remnant among the nations where youhave dispersed us.	13 Che l'ira tua si ritiri da noi, perchè siamo rimasti superstiti pochi tra le genti in mezzo alle quali ci hai dispersi!
14 Listen, Lord, to our prayers and our entreaties; deliver us for your own sake and let us win the favour ofthe people who have deported us,	14 Esaudisci, o Signore, le preci e le suppliche nostre, e rimettici in libertà per l'onor tuo; facci trovar grazia nel cospetto di quelli che ci espatriarono;
15 so that the whole world may know that you are the Lord our God, since Israel and his descendantsbear your name.	15 affinchè tutta la terra sappia che tu sei il Signore, dio nostro, e non invano il tuo nome è stato invocatosopra Israele e sopra la sua progenie.
16 Look down, Lord, from your holy dwel ing-place and think of us, bow your ear and listen,	16 Rivolgi lo sguardo a noi, dalla tua santa casa, porgi ascolto ed esaudiscici!
17 open your eyes, Lord, and look; the dead down in Sheol, whose breath has been taken from theirbodies, are not the ones to give glory and due recognition to the Lord;	17 Apri gli occhi e guarda: non i morti, che son tra le pareti d'una tomba, le cui anime dalle loro viscere sono state divelte, renderanno omaggio alla gloria e alla giustizia del Signore,
18 whoever is overcome with affliction, who goes along bowed down and frail, with failing eyes andhungering soul, that is the one to give you glory and due recognition, Lord.	18 ma l'anima rattristata per l'enormità del male, che cammina curva e inferma, cogli occhi bassi e il ventre digiuno, rende omaggio alla tua gloria e alla tua giustizia, Signore.
19 We do not rely on the merits of our ancestors and of our kings to offer you our humble plea, Lord ourGod.	19 Perchè noi, non per meriti dei nostri padri, effondiamo le nostre precie chiediamo misericordia al tuo cospetto, Signore Dio nostro;
20 No, you have sent down your anger and your fury on us, as you threatened through your servants theprophets when they said,	20 ma perchè hai mandato sopra di noila tua ira e la tua indignazione, come avevi preannunziato per mezzo dei servi tuoi, i profeti,
21 'The Lord says this: Bend your necks and serve the king of Babylon, and you wil remain in the countrywhich I gave to your ancestors.	21 dicendo: "Così dice il Signore:Piegate il vostro dorso e la vostra cervice, e prestate servizio al re di Babilonia, e avrete la vostra residenza nella terra che ho dato ai padri vostri.
22 But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and serve the king of Babylon	22 Che se non ascolterete la voce del Signore Dio nostro, col prestar servizio al re di Babilonia, opererò la vostra espatriazione dalle città di Giuda e dai suburbi di Gerusalemme;
23 then I shal silence the shouts of rejoicing and mirth and the voices of bridegroom and bride in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, and the whole country will be reduced to desert, with noinhabitants.'	23 e toglierò da voi la voce festosa e la voce giuliva, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa, e la terra resterà senza più traccia di abitatori".
24 But we would not listen to your voice and serve the king of Babylon, and so you carried out what youhad threatened through your servants the prophets: that the bones of our kings and of our ancestors would bedragged from their resting places.	24 Ma non hanno dato ascolto alla tua voce, Signore, di prestar servizio al re di Babilonia, e tu hai mantenute le tue parole che avevi pronunciate, per mezzo dei servi tuoi, i profeti:"Che le ossa dei nostri re, e le ossa dei nostri padrisarebbero rimosse dal loro luogo".
25 They were indeed tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night. And people died indreadful agony, from famine, sword and plague.	25 Ed ecco che giacciono esposte al raggio cocente del sole e al gelo della notte; e quei che son morti, perirono tra dolori atroci, di fame, di spada e di contagio.
26 And so, because of the wickedness of the House of Israel and the House of Judah, you have madethis House, that bears your name, what it is today.	26 E il tempio, il luogo ove s'invoca il tuo nome, hai ridotto com'è oggi, per l'iniquità della casa d'Israele e della casa di Giuda.
27 And yet, Lord our God, you have treated us in a way worthy of al your goodness and boundlesstenderness,	27 Eppure tu, Signore Dio nostro, hai usato con noi di tutta la tua bontà, di tutta la tua misericordia così grande,
28 just as you had promised through your servant Moses, the day you told him to write your Law in thepresence of the Israelites, and said,	28 avendoci annunziato per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè, nel giorno che gli comandasti di scrivere la tua legge, in presenza dei figli d'Israele,
29 'If you do not listen to my voice, this great and innumerable multitude wil certainly be reduced to a tinyfew among the nations where I shal scatter them-	29 dicendo: "Se voi non darete ascolto alla mia voce, questa moltitudine così grande, diventerà esigua tra le gentidove io li disperderò.
30 for I knew that, being an obstinate people, they would not listen to me. But in the country of their exile,they will come to themselves	30 Ma io so che il popolo non mi ascolterà; è un popolo di dura cervice; rientrerà in se stesso nella terra del suo esilio;
31 and acknowledge that I am the Lord their God. I shal give them a heart and an attentive ear,	31 e così riconosceranno che io sono il Signore Dio loro; e darò loro un cuore per intendere e orecchi per ascoltare:
32 and they will sing my praises in the country of their exile, they will remember my name;	32 e mi loderanno, nella terra dell'esilio, e rammenteranno il mio nome.
33 they wil stop being obstinate and, remembering what became of their ancestors who sinned before theLord, will turn from their evil deeds.	33 E desisteranno dalla loro pertinacia inflessibile, e dalle loro malvagità, perchè ricorderanno la sorte dei loro padri che peccarono contro di me.
34 Then I shal bring them back to the country which I promised on oath to their ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob, and make them masters in it. I shal make their numbers grow; they wil not dwindle again.	34 Allora li richiamerò nella terra giurata ai loro padri, ad Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe, e ne riprenderanno la padronanza, e li moltiplicherò e non scemeranno più.
35 And I shal make an everlasting covenant with them; so that I am their God and they are my people.And never again shal I drive my people Israel out of the country which I have given them.'	35 E conchiuderò con essi un'altra alleanza eterna, ond'essere Io, il Dio loro, ed essi il Popolo mio. E non rimuoverò più il mio popolo, i figli d'Israele, dalla terra che ho loro data".
