Baruch 2

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 And so the Lord has carried out the sentence which he passed on us, on our judges who governedIsrael, on our kings and leaders and on the people of Israel and of Judah;	1 Por eso el Señor ha cumplido la amenaza que había pronunciado contra nosotros, contra los jueces que gobernaron a Israel, contra nuestros reyes, contra nuestros jefes y contra los hombres de Israel y de Judá.
2 what he did to Jerusalem has never been paral eled under the wide heavens -- in conformity with whatwas written in the Law of Moses;	2 Nunca se hizo bajo el cielo nada semejante a lo que él hizo en Jerusalén, conforme a lo que está escrito en la Ley de Moisés,
3 we were each reduced to eating the flesh of our own sons and daughters.	3 a tal punto que llegamos a comer, uno la carne de su hijo, y otro la carne de su hija.
4 Furthermore, he has handed them over into the power of all the kingdoms that surround us, to be thecontempt and execration of all the neighbouring peoples among whom the Lord scattered them.	4 El los entregó en manos de todos los reinos que nos rodean, para que cayeran en el oprobio y la desolación, entre todos los pueblos de los alrededores donde el Señor los dispersó.
5 Instead of being masters, they found themselves enslaved, because we had sinned against the Lord ourGod by not listening to his voice.	5 Así quedaron sometidos, en lugar de prevalecer, porque nosotros hemos pecado contra el Señor, nuestro Dios, al no escuchar su voz.
6 Saving justice is the Lord's; we and our ancestors have only the look of shame we bear today.	6 Al Señor, nuestro Dios, pertenece la justicia; a nosotros, en cambio, y a nuestros padres la vergüenza reflejada en el rostro, como sucede en el día de hoy.
7 Al those disasters which the Lord pronounced against us have now befallen us.	7 Todo lo que el Señor había anunciado contra nosotros, todas esas desgracias nos han sobrevenido.
8 And yet we have not tried to win the favour of the Lord by each of us renouncing the dictates of our ownwicked heart;	8 Nosotros no hemos aplacado con nuestras súplicas el rostro del Señor, apartándonos cada uno de los pensamientos de su corazón perverso.
9 so the Lord has been alert to our misdeeds and has brought disaster down on us, since the Lord isupright in everything he had commanded us to do,	9 Por eso el Señor estuvo atento a estas calamidades y las descargó sobre nosotros, porque él es justo en todo lo que nos manda hacer.
10 and we have not listened to his voice so as to fol ow the commandments which the Lord had ordainedfor us.	10 Pero nosotros no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor, que nos mandaba seguir los preceptos que él puso delante de nosotros.
11 And now, Lord, God of Israel, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with signs andwonders, with great power and with outstretched arm, to win yourself a name such as you have today,	11 Y ahora, Señor, Dios de Israel, que hiciste salir a tu pueblo de la tierra de Egipto con mano fuerte, con signos y portentos, con gran poder y con el brazo en alto, haciéndote así un Nombre famoso hasta el día de hoy,
12 we have sinned, we have committed sacrilege; Lord our God, we have broken al your precepts.	12 nosotros hemos pecado, nos hemos hecho impíos, hemos incurrido en la injusticia, Señor, Dios nuestro, desobedeciendo todas tus prescripciones.
13 Let your anger turn from us since we are no more than a little remnant among the nations where youhave dispersed us.	13 Que tu furor se aparte de nosotros, porque hemos quedado muy pocos entre las naciones donde nos has dispersado.
14 Listen, Lord, to our prayers and our entreaties; deliver us for your own sake and let us win the favour ofthe people who have deported us,	14 Escucha, Señor, nuestra oración y nuestra súplica, y por tu honor, líbranos y concédenos el favor de aquellos que nos han deportado,
15 so that the whole world may know that you are the Lord our God, since Israel and his descendantsbear your name.	15 para que toda la tierra conozca que tú eres el Señor, nuestro Dios, porque tu Nombre ha sido invocado sobre Israel y sobre su raza.
16 Look down, Lord, from your holy dwel ing-place and think of us, bow your ear and listen,	16 Mira, Señor, desde tu santa morada y piensa en nosotros; inclina tu oído y escucha;
17 open your eyes, Lord, and look; the dead down in Sheol, whose breath has been taken from theirbodies, are not the ones to give glory and due recognition to the Lord;	17 abre, Señor, tus ojos y mira; porque no son los muertos que están en el Abismo, aquellos cuyo espíritu ha sido arrancado de sus entrañas, los que tributan gloria y justicia al Señor ;
18 whoever is overcome with affliction, who goes along bowed down and frail, with failing eyes andhungering soul, that is the one to give you glory and due recognition, Lord.	18 sino que es el alma llena de aflicción, y son los que caminan encorvados y sin fuerzas, los ojos debilitados y el alma hambrienta los que te tributan, Señor, gloria y justicia.
19 We do not rely on the merits of our ancestors and of our kings to offer you our humble plea, Lord ourGod.	19 No es por las obras de justicia de nuestros padres y de nuestros reyes, que nosotros presentamos nuestra súplica delante de tu rostro, Señor, Dios nuestro.
20 No, you have sent down your anger and your fury on us, as you threatened through your servants theprophets when they said,	20 Porque tú has enviado sobre nosotros tu furor y tu indignación, como lo habías anunciado por medio de tus servidores, los profetas, diciendo:
21 'The Lord says this: Bend your necks and serve the king of Babylon, and you wil remain in the countrywhich I gave to your ancestors.	21 Así habla el Señor: Dobleguen sus espaldas y sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y permanecerán en la tierra que yo he dado a sus padres.
22 But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and serve the king of Babylon	22 Pero si ustedes no escuchan la voz del Señor, sirviendo al rey de Babilonia,
23 then I shal silence the shouts of rejoicing and mirth and the voices of bridegroom and bride in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, and the whole country will be reduced to desert, with noinhabitants.'	23 yo haré cesar en las ciudades de Judá y dentro de Jerusalén el grito de gozo y el grito de alegría, el canto del esposo y el canto de la esposa, y todo el país se convertirá en un desierto sin habitantes.
24 But we would not listen to your voice and serve the king of Babylon, and so you carried out what youhad threatened through your servants the prophets: that the bones of our kings and of our ancestors would bedragged from their resting places.	24 Y nosotros no hemos escuchado tu voz, que nos mandaba servir al rey de Babilonia; por eso, tú has cumplido la amenaza que habías pronunciado por medio de tus servidores, los profetas, a saber, que serían sacados de su sitio los huesos de nuestros reyes y los huesos de nuestros padres.
25 They were indeed tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night. And people died indreadful agony, from famine, sword and plague.	25 Y ahora han sido arrojados al calor del día y al frío de la noche, después de haber muerto en medio de crueles sufrimientos, por el hambre, la espada y la peste.
26 And so, because of the wickedness of the House of Israel and the House of Judah, you have madethis House, that bears your name, what it is today.	26 Tú has reducido Esta Casa sobre la que había sido invocado tu Nombre, a lo que es en el día de hoy, a causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá.
27 And yet, Lord our God, you have treated us in a way worthy of al your goodness and boundlesstenderness,	27 Sin embargo, tú nos has tratado, Señor, Dios nuestro, conforme a toda tu benignidad y a tu gran compasión,
28 just as you had promised through your servant Moses, the day you told him to write your Law in thepresence of the Israelites, and said,	28 como lo habías anunciado por medio de Moisés, tu servidor, el día en que le ordenaste escribir tu Ley en presencia de los israelitas, diciendo:
29 'If you do not listen to my voice, this great and innumerable multitude wil certainly be reduced to a tinyfew among the nations where I shal scatter them-	29 «Si ustedes no escuchan mi voz, esta grande, esta inmensa muchedumbre será reducida a un pequeño número entre las naciones adonde los dispersaré.
30 for I knew that, being an obstinate people, they would not listen to me. But in the country of their exile,they will come to themselves	30 Yo sé, en efecto, que ellos no me escucharán, porque son un pueblo obstinado y rebelde, pero en la tierra de su exilio, volverán sobre sí mismos
31 and acknowledge that I am the Lord their God. I shal give them a heart and an attentive ear,	31 y conocerán que yo soy el Señor, su Dios. Les daré un corazón y oídos dóciles,
32 and they will sing my praises in the country of their exile, they will remember my name;	32 y ellos me alabarán en la tierra de su exilio y se acordarán de mi Nombre.
33 they wil stop being obstinate and, remembering what became of their ancestors who sinned before theLord, will turn from their evil deeds.	33 Se arrepentirán de su obstinación y de sus malas acciones, porque se acordarán de la suerte de sus padres que pecaron contra el Señor .
34 Then I shal bring them back to the country which I promised on oath to their ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob, and make them masters in it. I shal make their numbers grow; they wil not dwindle again.	34 Entonces los haré volver a la tierra que juré dar a sus padres, a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, y se adueñarán de ella. Los multiplicaré y ya no disminuirán.
35 And I shal make an everlasting covenant with them; so that I am their God and they are my people.And never again shal I drive my people Israel out of the country which I have given them.'	35 Estableceré para ellos una alianza eterna, para que yo sea su Dios y ellos sean mi Pueblo, y ya no arrojaré más a mi pueblo Israel de la tierra que les he dado».
