1 The words of Yahweh that were addressed to the prophet Jeremiah against the nations.	1 Voici des paroles de Yahvé au prophète Jérémie à propos des nations étrangères.
2 On Egypt. Against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was at Carchemish on the RiverEuphrates when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated it in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, kingof Judah.	2 Parole concernant l’Égypte et l’armée du Pharaon Nékao, roi d’Égypte, alors qu’il était à Karkémich sur les rives de l’Euphrate. Il y fut battu par Nabukodonozor, roi de Babylone, en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda.
3 Buckler and shield at the ready! Onward to battle!	3 Préparez le petit et le grand bouclier, et marchez au combat;
4 Harness the horses: into the saddle, horsemen! To your ranks! On with your helmets! Sharpen yourspears, put on your breastplates!	4 attelez les chevaux cavaliers, montez! alignez-vous, casque en tête, fourbissez vos lances, attachez vos cuirasses!
5 Why do I see them retreating, panic-stricken? Their heroes, beaten back, are fleeing headlong, with nota look behind. Terror on every side, Yahweh declares!	5 Mais que vois-je? Ils ont peur, ils tournent bride; les plus braves sont mis en fuite, ils fuient sans se retourner. Partout c’est la panique - parole de Yahvé.
6 No flight for the swift, no escape for the strong! Up in the north on the River Euphrates, they havecol apsed, have fal en.	6 Le plus agile ne peut échapper, le plus brave ne se sauve pas! Au nord, sur les rives de l’Euphrate, ils ont trébuché, ils sont tombés.
7 Who was it rose like the Nile, his waters foaming like a torrent?	7 Qui donc montait comme le Nil, comme un fleuve aux eaux bouillonnantes?
8 Why, Egypt rose like the Nile, his waters foaming like a torrent. 'I shal rise', he said, 'and drown theearth; sweep away town and its inhabitants!	8 Elle disait: “Je vais monter, recouvrir la terre, emporter les villes avec leurs habitants.”
9 Charge, horses! Forward, chariots! Let the warriors advance, men from Cush and Put with shield inhand, men from Lud who bend the bow!'	9 Cavaliers, chargez! Chars, partez! Et vous les braves, montrez-vous, gens de Kouch et de Pout avec vos boucliers, et vous Lydiens habiles à manier l’arc!
10 For this is the Day of Lord Yahweh Sabaoth, a day of vengeance when he takes revenge on his foes:the sword wil devour until gorged, until drunk with their blood, for Lord Yahweh Sabaoth is holding a sacrificialfeast in the land of the north, on the River Euphrates.	10 Mais le Seigneur Yahvé aujourd’hui a son jour de vengeance contre ses adversaires. L’épée dévore et veut se rassasier, s’enivrer du sang des victimes; le Seigneur Yahvé célèbre un sacrifice aux rives de l’Euphrate sur les terres du nord.
11 Go up to Gilead and fetch balm, virgin daughter of Egypt! You multiply remedies in vain, nothing cancure you!	11 Iras-tu chercher un baume en Galaad, vierge, fille d’Égypte; en vain tu multiplies les remèdes, pour toi il n’y a pas de guérison!
12 The nations have heard of your shame, your wailing fil s the world, for warrior has stumbled againstwarrior, and both have fal en together.	12 Les nations ont appris ta défaite, les échos de ta chute ont rempli le monde, car un guerrier a trébuché sur l’autre, ils sont tombés tous ensemble!
13 The word that came from Yahweh to the prophet Jeremiah when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced to attack Egypt.	13 Voici la parole que Yahvé adressa au prophète Jérémie lorsque Nabukodonozor roi de Babel vint combattre l’Égypte:
14 Publish it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol, proclaim it in Noph and Tahpanhes! Say, 'Stand your ground,be prepared, for the sword is devouring al round you!'	14 Annoncez-le à Migdol, faites-le savoir à Nof et à Tahpanhès, dites leur de se lever, de se préparer, car déjà l’épée a dévoré les environs.
15 Why has Apis fled? Why has your Mighty One not stood firm? Why, Yahweh has overturned him,	15 Pourquoi Apis s’est-il enfui? Ton taureau n’a-t-il pu résister? Mais non, Yahvé l’a bousculé,
16 he has caused many to fal ! Fal ing over one another, they say, 'Up, and back to our own people, tothe country where we were born, away from the devastating sword!'	16 il a chancelé, il est tombé. L’un à l’autre ils se disent: “Debout, regagnons notre peuple, notre terre natale, fuyons les ravages de l’épée!”
17 They have given Pharaoh king of Egypt the nickname, 'Much-noise-but-he-lets-the-chance-slip-by'!	17 Donnez ce nom à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte: “Bien du bruit quand il est trop tard”.
18 As I live, the King declares, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth, he is coming, a very Tabor amongmountains, a Carmel high above the sea!	18 Aussi vrai que je vis - parole du Roi, qui s’appelle Yahvé Sabaot, vient un guerrier, un ennemi, semblable au Thabor parmi les montagnes, comme le Carmel au dessus de la mer.
19 Get your bundle ready for exile, fair inhabitant of Egypt! Noph will be reduced to a desert, desolate,uninhabited.	19 Fais donc tes bagages d’exilée, habitante de l’Égypte! Nof bientôt est en ruines, la voilà dévastée, sans habitants!
20 Egypt was a splendid heifer, but a gadfly from the north has settled on her.	20 L’Égypte était une belle génisse, mais un taon est arrivé du nord.
21 The mercenaries she had with her, these too were like fattened calves: but they too have taken totheir heels, have al run away, not held their ground, for their day of disaster has overtaken them, their time forbeing punished.	21 On voyait chez elle ses mercenaires, comme des veaux à l’engrais sur ses terres; même eux ont tourné le dos, tous ont lâché pied et se sont enfuis; c’est que le jour fatal était arrivé, celui des règlements de compte.
22 Hear her hissing like a snake as they advance in force to fal on her with their axes, like woodcutters,	22 Elle siffle comme serpent qui s’enfuit, car vers elle on arrive en force, pour l’abattre avec la hache, comme fait pour l’arbre le bûcheron.
23 they wil fell her forest, Yahweh declares, however impenetrable it was for they are more numerousthan locusts, there is no counting them.	23 Ils ont coupé sa forêt - parole de Yahvé, on ne pouvait y pénétrer; Ils sont venus comme des sauterelles, si nombreux qu’on ne peut les compter.
24 The daughter of Egypt is put to shame, handed over to a people from the north.	24 La fille de l’Égypte est couverte de honte, elle s’est vue livrée au peuple du nord.
25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, has said, 'Look, I shal punish Amon of No, Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods,its kings, Pharaoh and those who put their trust in him.	25 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Je m’en vais visiter Amon de No et le Pharaon, l’Égypte avec ses dieux et ses rois; le Pharaon et tous ceux qui mettent en lui leur confiance.
26 I shal hand him over to those who are determined to kil him, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, tohis generals. But afterwards, Egypt wil be inhabited again as in the past, Yahweh declares.	26 Je les livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; aux mains de Nabukodonozor roi de Babel, et aux mains de ses serviteurs. Mais ensuite l’Égypte sera habitée comme elle l’était autrefois - parole de Yahvé.
27 But do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Israel, do not be alarmed: for look, I shal rescue you fromafar and your descendants from the country where they are captive. Jacob wil return and be at peace, secure,with no one to trouble him.	27 Quant à toi, mon serviteur Jacob, ne crains pas; ne tremble pas Israël, car je viens pour te sauver des pays lointains et ramener tes descendants de leur exil; Jacob reviendra et connaîtra la paix; il sera en sécurité, nul ne l’inquiétera.
28 Do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Yahweh declares, for I am with you: I shal make an end of al thenations where I have driven you, but I shal not make an end of you, I shal discipline you only as you deserve,not leaving you quite unpunished.	28 Sois sans crainte, Jacob, mon serviteur - parole de Yahvé, car je suis avec toi. Je détruirai toutes les nations où je t’avais dispersé, mais toi je ne te détruirai pas; je te corrigerai avec justice, ce ne sera pas ma vengeance.
