Jeremiah 38

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 But Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah and Pashhur son ofMalchiah heard the words which Jeremiah was saying to al the people,	1 Ora Safatias, filho de Matan, e Gedelias, filho de Fassur, e Jucal, filho de Selemias, e Fassur, filho de Melquias, tinham ouvido as palavras que Jeremias dirigia a todo o povo:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Anyone who stays in this city wil die by sword, famine or plague; but anyone wholeaves it and surrenders to the Chaldaeans wil live; he wil escape with his life.	2 Assim fala o Senhor: Todo aquele que ficar nesta cidade morrerá à espada, e de fome ou de peste; mas o que passar aos Caldeus, terá como um despojo a sua vida salva, viverá.
3 Yahweh says this: This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, and he willcapture it." '	3 Isto diz o Senhor: Certamente será entregue esta cidade na mão do exército do rei de Babilônia, que a tomará.
4 The chief men then said to the king, 'You must have this man put to death: he is unquestionablydisheartening the remaining soldiers in the city, and al the people too, by talking like this. This man is seekingnot the welfare of the people but their ruin.'	4 Então os chefes disseram ao rei: (É preciso) que se mate este homem, porque desanima os homens de guerra, que ficaram nesta cidade, e todo o povo dirigindo-lhes tais palavras. Sim, este homem não busca o bem para o povo, mas o mal.
5 King Zedekiah answered, 'He is in your hands as you know, for the king is powerless to oppose you.'	5 O rei Sedecias disse: Aí o tendes nas vossas mãos, pois nada pode o rei contra vós.
6 So they took Jeremiah and put him into the storage-wel of the king's son Malchiah in the Court of theGuard, letting him down with ropes. There was no water in the storage-well, only mud, and into the mudJeremiah sank.	6 Tomaram, então, Jeremias e lançaram-no na cisterna do príncipe Melquias, que estava no vestíbulo da guarda: desceram Jeremias com cordas à cisterna, onde não havia água, senão lodo. E assim se atolou Jeremias no lodo.
7 But Ebed-Melech the Cushite, a eunuch attached to the palace, heard that Jeremiah had been put intothe storage-wel . As the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate,	7 Entretanto Abedemelech, eunuco etíope, que estava na casa do rei, ouviu dizer que tinham metido Jeremias na cisterna. O rei estava então sentado à porta de Benjamim.
8 Ebed-Melech came out from the palace and spoke to the king.	8 Abdemelech saiu da casa do rei e foi falar o rei:
9 'My lord king,' he said, 'these men have done a wicked thing by treating the prophet Jeremiah like this:they have thrown him into the storage-well. He will starve to death there, since there is no more food in the city.'	9 Ó rei, meu Senhor, estes homens procederam mal em tudo quanto fizeram contra o profeta Jeremias, metendo-o na cisterna, para que ali morra de fome, porque já não há mais pão na cidade.
10 At this the king gave Ebed-Melech the Cushite the fol owing order: 'Take thirty men with you from hereand pul the prophet Jeremiah out of the storage-wel before he dies.'	10 Então o rei deu esta ordem ao etíope Abdemelech: Toma aqui contigo trinta homens e tira da cisterna o profeta Jeremias, antes que morra.
11 Ebed-Melech took the men with him and went into the palace to the Treasury wardrobe; out of it hetook some torn, worn-out rags which he lowered on ropes to Jeremiah in the storage-wel .	11 Abdemelech, tomando consigo os homens, entrou numa dependência do palácio do rei, que estava por debaixo do tesouro, e tomou dali uns panos velhos e farrapos, que, por umas cordas, deitou abaixo à cisterna, a Jeremias.
12 Ebed-Melech the Cushite then said to Jeremiah, 'These torn, worn-out rags are for you to put underyour armpits to pad the ropes.' Jeremiah did this.	12 O etíope Abdemelech disse a Jeremias: Mete esses pedaços de pano velho e esses retalhos debaixo dos teus sovacos entre os braços e as cordas, Jeremias assim o fez.
13 Then they hauled Jeremiah up with the ropes and pulled him out of the storage-wel . And Jeremiahstayed in the Court of the Guard.	13 Então puxaram Jeremias com as cordas e tiraram-no da cisterna. E Jeremias ficou no vestíbulo da guarda.
14 King Zedekiah had the prophet Jeremiah summoned to him at the third entrance to the Temple ofYahweh. 'I want to ask you for a word,' the king said to Jeremiah, 'keep nothing back from me.'	14 O rei Sedecias mandou tomar e trazer o profeta Jeremias à terceira porta da casa do Senhor, e ali disse a Jeremias: Eu tenho uma coisa a perguntar-te; não me encubras nada.
15 Jeremiah answered Zedekiah, 'If I do proclaim it to you, are you not sure to have me put to death?And if I give you advice, you wil not listen to me.'	15 Jeremias disse a Sedecias: Se ta anunciar, não me matarás? Aliás, se eu te der um conselho, não me ouvirás.
16 King Zedekiah then secretly swore this oath to Jeremiah, 'As Yahweh lives, giver of this life of ours, Iwil have you neither put to death nor handed over to these men who are determined to kill you.'	16 Jurou, pois, o rei Sedecias a Jeremias em segredo, dizendo; Viva o Senhor, que nos deu esta vida, que não te matarei, nem te entregarei nas mãos desses homens que querem tirar-te a vida.
17 Jeremiah then said to Zedekiah, 'Yahweh, God Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "If you go out andsurrender to the king of Babylon's generals, your life will be safe and this city will not be burnt down; you andyour family wil survive.	17 Então Jeremias disse a Sedecias: Assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Se, saindo (de Jerusalém), te entregares aos oficiais do rei de Babilônia, terás a vida salva, e não arderá esta cidade; serás salvo, tu com a tua casa.
18 But if you do not go out and surrender to the king of Babylon's generals, this city wil be handed overto the Chaldaeans and they wil burn it down; nor wil you yourself escape their clutches." '	18 Mas, se não te entregares aos oficiais do rei de Babilônia, será entregue esta cidade nas mãos dos Caldeus, que a farão arder, e tu não escaparás das suas mãos.
19 King Zedekiah then said to Jeremiah, 'I am afraid of the Judaeans who have already gone over to theChaldaeans: I might be handed over to them and they would il -treat me.'	19 O rei Sedecias disse a Jeremias: Receio-me dos Judeus, que se passaram aos Caldeus; poderá suceder que eu seja entregue nas suas mãos, e me ultrajem.
20 'You wil not be handed over to them,' Jeremiah replied. 'Please listen to Yahweh's voice as I haverelayed it to you, and then al wil go wel with you and your life wil be safe.	20 Jeremias respondeu: Não te entregarão. Rogo-te que ouças a voz do Senhor, que te anuncio; será bem para ti, e terás a vida salva.
21 But if you refuse to surrender, this is what Yahweh has shown me:	21 Mas, se não quiseres sair, eis a palavra que o Senhor me revelou:
22 the sight of al the women left in the king of Judah's palace being led off to the king of Babylon'sgenerals and saying: "They have misled you, they have triumphed over you, those friends of yours! Your feethave sunk in the mud! They are up and away!"	22 Todas as mulheres que ficarem no palácio do rei de Judá, serão conduzidas aos oficiais do rei de Babilônia. Elas te dirão: Enganaram-te, iludiram-te, os (que se diziam) teus bons amigos. Quando se atolaram num lamaçal os teus pés, eles apartaram-se de ti.
23 'Yes, al your wives and children wil be led off to the Chaldaeans, and you yourself wil not escapetheir clutches but wil be a prisoner in the clutches of the king of Babylon. And as for this city, it wil be burntdown.'	23 Todas as tuas mulheres e teus filhos serão levados aos Caldeus; tu não escaparás das suas mãos, mas serás preso pelo rei de Babilônia, e será queimada esta cidade.
24 Zedekiah then said to Jeremiah, 'Do not let anyone else hear these words or you wil die.	24 Disse, pois, Sedecias a Jeremias: Ninguém saiba estas palavras, para não morreres.
25 If the chief men hear that I have been talking to you, and come and say, "Tel us what you said to theking and what the king said to you; keep nothing back from us, or we shal put you to death,"	25 Se os grandes souberem que falei contigo, se vieram a ti e te disserem: Manifesta-nos o que disseste ao rei e o que o rei disse a ti; não nos encubras nada, que te não mataremos -
26 you must reply, "I presented this request to the king: that he would not have me sent back toJonathan's house to die." '	26 tu lhes responderás: Fiz ao rei as minhas súplicas para que me não mandasse novamente levar a casa de Jonatan, onde morreria.
27 And in fact al the chief men came to Jeremiah and questioned him. He told them exactly what theking had ordered him to say. They then left him in peace, since the conversation had not been overheard.	27 Efetivamente todos os grandes foram ter com Jeremias e interrogaram-no; ele respondeu-lhes conforme tudo o que o rei lhe tinha mandado. Não o inquietaram mais, porque se não tinha divulgado nada.
28 And Jeremiah stayed in the Court of the Guard until the day Jerusalem was captured. And he wasthere when Jerusalem actual y was captured.	28 Jeremias permaneceu no vestíbulo da guarda, até ao dia em que Jerusalém foi tomada.
