Jeremiah 16

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows:	1 La parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes:
2 'You are not to marry or have sons and daughters in this place.	2 Ne prends pas femme; tu n'auras en ce lieu ni fils ni fille!
3 For Yahweh says this regarding the sons and daughters to be born in this place, about the motherswho give birth to them, and about the fathers who beget them in this land,	3 Car ainsi parle Yahvé à propos des fils et des filles qui vont naître en ce lieu, des mères qui lesenfanteront et des pères qui les engendreront en ce pays:
4 "They wil die of deadly diseases, unlamented and unburied; they will be like dung spread on theground; they wil meet their end by sword and famine, and their corpses wil be food for the birds of the sky andthe beasts of earth."	4 Ils mourront de maladies mortelles, sans être pleurés ni enterrés; ils serviront de fumier sur le sol;ils finiront par l'épée et la famine, et leurs cadavres seront la pâture des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes sauvages.
5 'Yes, Yahweh says this, "Go into no house where there is mourning, do not go and lament or grievewith them; for I have withdrawn my peace from this people, Yahweh declares, and faithful love and pity too.	5 Oui, ainsi parle Yahvé: N'entre pas dans une maison où l'on fait le deuil, ne vas pas pleurer niplaindre les gens, car j'ai retiré ma paix de ce peuple - oracle de Yahvé - ainsi que la pitié et la miséricorde.
6 High or low, they wil die in this country, without burial or lament; there wil be no gashing, no shaving ofthe head for them.	6 Grands et petits mourront en ce pays sans être enterrés ni pleurés; pour eux, on ne se fera niincisions ni tonsure.
7 No bread will be broken for the mourner to comfort him for the dead; no cup of consolation wil beoffered him for his father or his mother.	7 On ne rompra pas le pain pour qui est dans le deuil, pour le consoler au sujet d'un mort; on ne luioffrira pas la coupe de consolation pour son père ou sa mère.
8 "And do not enter a house where there is feasting, to sit with them and eat and drink.	8 N'entre pas non plus dans une maison où l'on festoie, pour t'asseoir avec eux à manger et à boire.
9 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: In this place, before your eyes, in your own days, Iwil silence the shouts of rejoicing and mirth and the voices of bridegroom and bride.	9 Car ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais faire taire ici, sous vos yeux et de vosjours, les cris de joie et d'allégresse, les chants du fiancé et de la fiancée.
10 "When you tel these people this and they ask you: Why has Yahweh decreed such complete andtotal disaster for us? What have we done wrong? What sin have we committed against Yahweh our God?	10 Quand tu auras annoncé à ce peuple toutes ces paroles et qu'on te demandera: "Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il proclamé contre nous tout cet immense malheur? Quelle est notre faute? Quel péché avons-nous commiscontre Yahvé notre Dieu?"
11 then you are to answer: It is because your ancestors abandoned me, Yahweh declares, and fol owedother gods, and served and worshipped them. They abandoned me and did not keep my Law.	11 Alors tu leur répondras: "C'est que vos pères m'ont abandonné - oracle de Yahvé - ils ont suivid'autres dieux, les servant et se prosternant devant eux. Et moi, ils m'ont abandonné, ils n'ont pas gardé ma Loi!
12 And you for your part have behaved even worse than your ancestors. Look, each of you fol ows hisown stubborn and wicked inclinations, without listening to me.	12 Et vous, vous avez agi plus mal que vos pères. Voici, chacun de vous se conduit selonl'obstination de son coeur mauvais, sans m'écouter.
13 And so, I shal eject you from this country into a country unknown to you or to your ancestors, andthere you can serve other gods, day and night, for I shal show you no more favour."	13 Je vous jetterai donc hors de ce pays, dans un pays inconnu de vous et de vos pères; là vousservirez d'autres dieux, jour et nuit, car je ne vous ferai plus grâce."
14 'Look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when people wil no longer say, "As Yahweh lives whobrought the Israelites out of Egypt!"	14 Aussi, voici venir des jours - oracle de Yahvé - où l'on ne dira plus: "Yahvé est vivant, qui a faitmonter les Israélites du pays d'Egypte",
15 but, "As Yahweh lives who brought the Israelites back from the land of the north and al the countriesto which he had driven them." I shal bring them back to the very soil I gave their ancestors.'	15 mais: "Yahvé est vivant, qui a fait monter les Israélites du pays du Nord et de tous les pays où illes avait dispersés!" Je les ramènerai sur la terre que j'avais donnée à leurs pères!
16 'Watch, I shal send for many fishermen, Yahweh declares, and these wil fish them up; next, I shalsend for many huntsmen, and these wil hunt them out of every mountain, every hil , and out of the holes in therocks.	16 Voici: Je vais envoyer quantité de pêcheurs - oracle de Yahvé - qui les pêcheront; puis j'enverraiquantité de chasseurs qui les chasseront de toute montagne, de toute colline et des creux des rochers.
17 For my eyes watch al their ways, these are not hidden from me, and their guilt does not escape mygaze.	17 Car mes yeux surveillent toutes leurs voies: elles ne m'échappent pas et leur faute ne se dérobepas à mes regards.
18 I shal requite their guilt and their sin twice over, since they have pol uted my country with thecarcases of their Horrors, and fil ed my heritage with their Abominations.'	18 Je paierai au double leur faute et leur péché, parce qu'ils ont profané mon pays par le cadavre deleurs Horreurs et rempli mon héritage de leurs Abominations.
19 Yahweh, my strength, my stronghold, my refuge in time of distress! To you the nations wil come fromthe remotest parts of the earth and say, 'Our fathers inherited nothing but Delusion, Futility of no use whatever.	19 Yahvé, ma force et ma forteresse, mon refuge au jour de détresse! A toi viendront les nations desextrémités de la terre. Elles diront: Nos pères n'ont eu en héritage que Mensonge, Vanité qui ne sert à rien.
20 Can human beings make their own gods? These are not gods at al !'	20 Un homme pourrait-il se fabriquer des dieux? Mais ce ne sont pas des dieux!
21 'Now listen, I will make them acknowledge, this time I wil make them acknowledge my hand and mymight; and then they wil know that Yahweh is my name.'	21 Voici donc, je vais leur faire connaître, cette fois-ci, je leur ferai connaître ma main et mapuissance, et ils sauront que mon Nom est Yahvé.
