1 Step down! Sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground, no throne, daughter of theChaldaeans, for never again will you be cal ed tender and delicate.	1 - Scendi e siedi nella polvere, vergine figlia di Babilonia, siedi in terra; non c'è più trono per la figlia dei Caldei, non sarai più oltre chiamata la voluttuosa, la delicata.
2 Take the grinding mil , crush up the meal. Remove your veil, tie up your skirt, bare your legs, cross therivers.	2 Prendi la mola e macina la farina; metti in mostra la tua nudità, discopri le spalle, succingi le ànche, passa i fiumi.
3 Let your nakedness be displayed and your shame exposed. I am going to take vengeance and no onewil stand in my way.	3 La tua ignominia sarà disvelata e si vedrà la tua turpitudine; prenderò vendetta, e nessun uomo potrà resistere a me.
4 Our redeemer, Yahweh Sabaoth is his name, the Holy One of Israel, says:	4 Il redentore nostro ha nome Signore degli eserciti, Santo d'Israele!
5 Sit in silence, bury yourself in darkness, daughter of the Chaldaeans, for never again wil you be cal edthe mistress of kingdoms.	5 Siedi nel silenzio, sprofondati nelle tenebre, figlia dei Caldei, perchè non sarai più oltre chiamata signora dei regni.
6 Being angry with my people, I rejected my heritage, surrendering them into your clutches. You showedthem no mercy, you made your yoke very heavy on the aged.	6 Io mi sono sdegnato contro il mio popolo, ho profanata la mia eredità e li ho dati nelle tue mani; ma tu li hai trattati senza pietà, sopra i vecchi hai fatto orribilmente pesare il tuo giogo.
7 You thought, 'I shal be a queen for ever.' You did not reflect on these matters or think about the future.	7 Tu hai detto: «Sarò signora in sempiterno»; ma non hai riflettuto a quello che poteva accaderti alla fine.
8 Now listen to this, voluptuous woman, lolling at ease and thinking to yourself, 'I am the only one whomatters. I shal never be widowed, never know bereavement.'	8 Ed ora ascolta, o deliziosa, che siedi sicura, che dici in cuor tuo: «Io e nessun altro fuori di me; non resterò vedova e non conoscerò la sterilità!».
9 Yet both these things wil befall you, suddenly, in one day. Bereavement and widowhood wil suddenlybefal you in spite of al your witchcraft and the potency of your spel s.	9 Queste due cose ti avverranno improvvisamente, in un sol giorno; la sterilità e la vedovanza; piomberanno su di te in tutta la loro pienezza, a dispetto della moltitudine delle tue magie, e della tenacia potente dei tuoi incantatori.
10 Confident in your wickedness, you thought, 'No one can see me.' Your wishes and your knowledgewere what deluded you, as you thought to yourself, 'I am the only one who matters.'	10 E ti confidasti nella tua malizia e dicesti: «Non c'è nessuno che mi vede». La tua sapienza e la tua scienza è quella che ti ha sedotta. E hai detto in cuor tuo: «Io sono, e fuori di me non ce n'è altra».
11 Hence, disaster wil befal you which you wil not know how to charm away, calamity overtake youwhich you wil not be able to avert, ruination will suddenly befal you, such as you have never known.	11 T'invoglierà una sciagura senza che tu sappia donde venga: ti sopraggiungerà una sventura che tu non potrai scongiurare; improvvisamente verrà sopra di te la rovina quando meno lo penserai.
12 Keep to your spel s then, and al your sorceries, at which you have worked so hard since you wereyoung. Perhaps you wil succeed, perhaps you wil strike terror!	12 Rèstati coi tuoi incantatori, e colla moltitudine dei tuoi maliardi in cui t'affaticasti sin dalla tua gioventù, se mai potessi cavarne qualche giovamento o divenire più forte!
13 You have had many tiring consultations: let the astrologers come forward now and save you, the star-gazers who announce month by month what wil happen to you next.	13 Con tutta la moltitudine dei tuoi consigli ti sei trovata impotente; sorgano e ti salvino gli astrologi che contemplavano le stelle e computavano i mesi, affine di predirti le cose che ti dovevano avvenire.
14 Look, they are like wisps of straw, the fire wil burn them up. They will not save their lives from thepower of the flame. No embers these, for keeping warm, no fire to sit beside!	14 Ecco che sono diventati come paglia, il fuoco li ha divorati; non si potranno liberare dalle fiamme; eh, non sono quelle d'un braciere per scaldarsi, nè d'un fuoco da sedersi accanto!
15 Such wil your wizards prove to be for you, for whom you have worked so hard since you were young;each wandering his own way, none of them can save you.	15 Così sarà di tutte quelle cose per le quali ti sei affaticata; gli uomini che in te trafficavano fin dalla tua gioventù si sono dispersi ciascuno per la sua strada, non c'è nessuno che ti salvi.
