1 Step down! Sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground, no throne, daughter of theChaldaeans, for never again will you be cal ed tender and delicate.	1 רדי ושבי על עפר בתולת בת בבל שבי לארץ אין כסא בת כשדים כי לא תוסיפי יקראו לך רכה וענגה
2 Take the grinding mil , crush up the meal. Remove your veil, tie up your skirt, bare your legs, cross therivers.	2 קחי רחים וטחני קמח גלי צמתך חשפי שבל גלי שוק עברי נהרות
3 Let your nakedness be displayed and your shame exposed. I am going to take vengeance and no onewil stand in my way.	3 תגל ערותך גם תראה חרפתך נקם אקח ולא אפגע אדם
4 Our redeemer, Yahweh Sabaoth is his name, the Holy One of Israel, says:	4 גאלנו יהוה צבאות שמו קדוש ישראל
5 Sit in silence, bury yourself in darkness, daughter of the Chaldaeans, for never again wil you be cal edthe mistress of kingdoms.	5 שבי דומם ובאי בחשך בת כשדים כי לא תוסיפי יקראו לך גברת ממלכות
6 Being angry with my people, I rejected my heritage, surrendering them into your clutches. You showedthem no mercy, you made your yoke very heavy on the aged.	6 קצפתי על עמי חללתי נחלתי ואתנם בידך לא שמת להם רחמים על זקן הכבדת עלך מאד
7 You thought, 'I shal be a queen for ever.' You did not reflect on these matters or think about the future.	7 ותאמרי לעולם אהיה גברת עד לא שמת אלה על לבך לא זכרת אחריתה
8 Now listen to this, voluptuous woman, lolling at ease and thinking to yourself, 'I am the only one whomatters. I shal never be widowed, never know bereavement.'	8 ועתה שמעי זאת עדינה היושבת לבטח האמרה בלבבה אני ואפסי עוד לא אשב אלמנה ולא אדע שכול
9 Yet both these things wil befall you, suddenly, in one day. Bereavement and widowhood wil suddenlybefal you in spite of al your witchcraft and the potency of your spel s.	9 ותבאנה לך שתי אלה רגע ביום אחד שכול ואלמן כתמם באו עליך ברב כשפיך בעצמת חבריך מאד
10 Confident in your wickedness, you thought, 'No one can see me.' Your wishes and your knowledgewere what deluded you, as you thought to yourself, 'I am the only one who matters.'	10 ותבטחי ברעתך אמרת אין ראני חכמתך ודעתך היא שובבתך ותאמרי בלבך אני ואפסי עוד
11 Hence, disaster wil befal you which you wil not know how to charm away, calamity overtake youwhich you wil not be able to avert, ruination will suddenly befal you, such as you have never known.	11 ובא עליך רעה לא תדעי שחרה ותפל עליך הוה לא תוכלי כפרה ותבא עליך פתאם שואה לא תדעי
12 Keep to your spel s then, and al your sorceries, at which you have worked so hard since you wereyoung. Perhaps you wil succeed, perhaps you wil strike terror!	12 עמדי נא בחבריך וברב כשפיך באשר יגעת מנעוריך אולי תוכלי הועיל אולי תערוצי
13 You have had many tiring consultations: let the astrologers come forward now and save you, the star-gazers who announce month by month what wil happen to you next.	13 נלאית ברב עצתיך יעמדו נא ויושיעך הברו שמים החזים בכוכבים מודיעם לחדשים מאשר יבאו עליך
14 Look, they are like wisps of straw, the fire wil burn them up. They will not save their lives from thepower of the flame. No embers these, for keeping warm, no fire to sit beside!	14 הנה היו כקש אש שרפתם לא יצילו את נפשם מיד להבה אין גחלת לחמם אור לשבת נגדו
15 Such wil your wizards prove to be for you, for whom you have worked so hard since you were young;each wandering his own way, none of them can save you.	15 כן היו לך אשר יגעת סחריך מנעוריך איש לעברו תעו אין מושיעך
