Isaiah 40

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'Console my people, console them,' says your God.	1 Consolatevi, consolatevi, o mio popolo — dice il vostro Dio. —
2 'Speak to the heart of Jerusalem and cry to her that her period of service is ended, that her guilt hasbeen atoned for, that, from the hand of Yahweh, she has received double punishment for all her sins.'	2 parlate al cuore di Gerusalemme, racconsolatela; perchè la sua schiavitù è finita, la sua iniquità è espiata, avendo essa ricevuto dalla mano del Signore il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati.
3 A voice cries, 'Prepare in the desert a way for Yahweh. Make a straight highway for our God across thewastelands.	3 Voce di uno che grida nel deserto: — Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate nella solitudine i sentieri del nostro Dio.
4 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, every cliff become a plateau, everyescarpment a plain;	4 Ogni valle sarà colmata; ogni montagna, ogni collina abbassata; le vie storte diventeranno dritte e le malagevoli piane.
5 then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed and al humanity wil see it together, for the mouth of Yahwehhas spoken.'	5 Allora apparirà la gloria del Signore, e tutti gli uomini, senza eccezione, la vedranno, perchè la bocca del Signore ha parlato.
6 A voice said, 'Cry aloud!' and I said, 'What shal I cry?' -'All humanity is grass and all its beauty like thewild flower's.	6 Voce di uno che dice: « Grida ». Ed io: « Che devo gridare? » « Ogni mortale è come l'erba, e tutta la sua gloria come il fiore del campo:
7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of Yahweh blows on them. (The grass is surely thepeople.)	7 secca l'erba, cade il fiore, appena lo tocca il soffio del Signore. Veramente il popolo è come l'erba!
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God remains for ever.'	8 L'erba secca, il fiore cade; ma la parola del nostro Signore resta in eterno ».
9 Go up on a high mountain, messenger of Zion. Shout as loud as you can, messenger of Jerusalem!Shout fearlessly, say to the towns of Judah, 'Here is your God.'	9 Ascendi sopra un alto monte, tu che porti a Sion la buona novella, alza con forza la tua voce tu che porti la buona novella a Gerusalemme, grida forte: non temere: di' alle città di Giuda: — Ecco il vostro Dio,
10 Here is Lord Yahweh coming with power, his arm maintains his authority, his reward is with him andhis prize precedes him.	10 ecco il Signore Dio viene, con possanza, il suo braccio trionferà. Porta seco la sua mercede, ha davanti agli occhi l'opera sua.
11 He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms, holding them against his breastand leading to their rest the mother ewes.	11 Come un pastore pascerà il suo gregge, raccoglierà gli agnelli nelle sue braccia, li porterà nel suo seno e porterà anche le pecorelle che allattano.
12 Who was it measured the water of the sea in the hol ow of his hand and calculated the heavens to thenearest inch, gauged the dust of the earth to the nearest bushel, weighed the mountains in scales, the hil s in abalance?	12 Chi ha misurate nel suo pugno le acque? Chi ha pesati i cieli sulla palma distesa? Chi è che con tre dita sostiene il mondo, mette sul peso i monti, e sulla bilancia le colline?
13 Who directed the spirit of Yahweh, what counsellor could have instructed him?	13 Chi ha dato aiuto allo spirito del Signore? Chi gli ha dato consiglio? Chi gli ha mostrato il da farsi?
14 Whom has he consulted to enlighten him, to instruct him in the path of judgement, to teach himknowledge and show him how to understand?	14 Chi è stato chiamato a consigliarlo e istruirlo, a mostrargli la via della giustizia, a insegnargli la scienza, a fargli conoscere la via della prudenza?
15 See, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, coastsand islands weigh no more than fine powder.	15 Ecco che le nazioni sono come goccia d'una secchia, sono come un granello di polvere sulla bilancia, e le isole come granello di polvere impercettibile.
16 The Lebanon is not enough for the burning fires nor its animals enough for the burnt offering.	16 Il Libano non basterebbe pel fuoco, e i suoi animali non sarebbero sufficienti per gli olocausti.
17 Al the nations are as nothing before him, for him they count as nothingness and emptiness.	17 Tutte le nazioni sono davanti a lui come un niente, come un vano niente devon riputarsi davanti a lui.
18 To whom can you compare God? What image can you contrive of him?	18 A chi dunque avete fatto simile Dio? quale immagine farete di lui?
19 The craftsman casts an idol, a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.	19 Non è forse il fonditore quello che ha fusa la statua, e l'orefice che l'ha adornata d'oro, e l'argentiere che l'ha coperta d'argento?
20 Someone too poor to afford a sacrifice chooses a piece of wood that will not rot; he then seeks out askil ed craftsman to set up an idol that wil not totter.	20 Scelto un legno forte e incorruttibile, l'artefice intelligente cerca di ben basare un idolo, in modo che non si muova.
21 Did you not know, had you not heard? Was it not told you from the beginning? Have you notunderstood how the earth was set on its foundations?	21 Forse voi non lo sapete? non l'avete sentito dire? non vi fu annunziato fin da principio? e non avete capito (chi sia colui che ha posto) i fondamenti della terra?
22 He who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, the inhabitants of which are like grasshoppers,stretches out the heavens like a cloth, spreads them out like a tent to live in.	22 E' colui che sta assiso sopra il globo della terra, gli abitanti della quale sono come locuste, colui che come un tenue velo ha steso il cielo e l'ha spiegato come una tenda per abitarvi,
23 He reduces princes to nothing, the rulers of the world to mere emptiness.	23 colui che riduce ad effimera esistenza gli scrutatori dei segreti, e i giudici della terra a cosa vana.
24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the soil, than he blowson them and they wither and the storm carries them away like chaff.	24 Non ancora piantato, nè seminato, nè radicato in terra il loro tronco, all'improvviso dà un soffio sopra di essi, e seccano, e il turbine li porta via come paglia.
25 'To whom can you compare me, or who is my equal?' says the Holy One.	25 A che mi avete paragonato, a che mi avete fatto uguale? — dice il Santo.
26 Lift your eyes and look: he who created these things leads out their army in order, summoning each ofthem by name. So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer.	26 Alzate in alto gli occhi vostri e guardate chi ha creato tali cose, chi con ordine guida le loro schiere e le chiama tutte col loro nome, e tanta è la grandezza della fortezza, robustezza e virtù di lui che nessuna rimane indietro.
27 How can you say, Jacob, how can you repeat, Israel, 'My way is hidden from Yahweh, my rights areignored by my God'?	27 Per qual ragione tu dici, o Giacobbe, o Israele, tu parli così: « La mia via è nascosta al Signore, è stato messo da parte da Dio il mio diritto? »
28 Did you not know? Had you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, he created the remotest partsof the earth. He does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming.	28 Forse non lo sai o non l'hai sentito dire? Il Signore è un Dio eterno che ha creato i confini del mondo, non si stanca, non sente la fatica e la sua sapienza è imperscrutabile.
29 He gives strength to the weary, he strengthens the powerless.	29 Egli dona vigore a chi è stanco e raddoppia la forza e la robustezza a chi vien meno, sol giovani verran meno per la stanchezza, i giovani cadran spossati;
30 Youths grow tired and weary, the young stumble and fal ,	30 ma quelli che sperano nel Signore rinnoveranno le forze, prenderanno ali di aquila, correranno senza fatica, cammineranno senza stancarsi.
31 but those who hope in Yahweh wil regain their strength, they wil sprout wings like eagles, thoughthey run they will not grow weary, though they walk they wil never tire.
