Isaiah 40

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'Console my people, console them,' says your God.	1 ¡Consuelen, consuelen a mi pueblo, dice su Dios!
2 'Speak to the heart of Jerusalem and cry to her that her period of service is ended, that her guilt hasbeen atoned for, that, from the hand of Yahweh, she has received double punishment for all her sins.'	2 Hablen al corazón de Jerusalén y anúncienle que su tiempo de servicio se ha cumplido, que su culpa está paga, que ha recibido de la mano del Señor doble castigo por todos sus pecados.
3 A voice cries, 'Prepare in the desert a way for Yahweh. Make a straight highway for our God across thewastelands.	3 Una voz proclama: ¡Preparen en el desierto el camino del Señor, tracen en la estepa un sendero para nuestro Dios!
4 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, every cliff become a plateau, everyescarpment a plain;	4 ¡Que se rellenen todos los valles y se aplanen todas las montañas y colinas; que las quebradas se conviertan en llanuras y los terrenos escarpados, en planicies!
5 then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed and al humanity wil see it together, for the mouth of Yahwehhas spoken.'	5 Entonces se revelará la gloria del Señor y todos los hombres la verán juntamente, porque ha hablado la boca del Señor.
6 A voice said, 'Cry aloud!' and I said, 'What shal I cry?' -'All humanity is grass and all its beauty like thewild flower's.	6 Una voz dice: «¡Proclama!». Y yo respondo: «¿Qué proclamaré?». «Toda carne es hierba y toda su consistencia, como la flor de los campos:
7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of Yahweh blows on them. (The grass is surely thepeople.)	7 la hierba se seca, la flor se marchita cuando sopla sobre ella el aliento del Señor. Sí, el pueblo es la hierba.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God remains for ever.'	8 La hierba se seca, la flor se marchita, pero la palabra de nuestro Dios permanece para siempre».
9 Go up on a high mountain, messenger of Zion. Shout as loud as you can, messenger of Jerusalem!Shout fearlessly, say to the towns of Judah, 'Here is your God.'	9 Súbete a una montaña elevada, tú que llevas la buena noticia a Sión; levanta con fuerza tu voz, tú que llevas la buena noticia a Jerusalén. Levántala sin temor, di a las ciudades de Judá: «¡Aquí está tu Dios!».
10 Here is Lord Yahweh coming with power, his arm maintains his authority, his reward is with him andhis prize precedes him.	10 Ya llega el Señor con poder y su brazo le asegura el dominio: el premio de su victoria lo acompaña y su recompensa lo precede.
11 He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms, holding them against his breastand leading to their rest the mother ewes.	11 Como un pastor, él apacienta su rebaño, lo reúne con su brazo; lleva sobre su pecho a los corderos y guía con cuidado a las que han dado a luz
12 Who was it measured the water of the sea in the hol ow of his hand and calculated the heavens to thenearest inch, gauged the dust of the earth to the nearest bushel, weighed the mountains in scales, the hil s in abalance?	12 ¿Quién midió las aguas en el hueco de su mano y abarcó con la palma las dimensiones del cielo? ¿Quién hizo caber en una medida el polvo de la tierra o pesó en una báscula las montañas y en una balanza la colinas?
13 Who directed the spirit of Yahweh, what counsellor could have instructed him?	13 ¿Quién abarcó el espíritu del Señor y qué consejero lo instruyó?
14 Whom has he consulted to enlighten him, to instruct him in the path of judgement, to teach himknowledge and show him how to understand?	14 ¿Con quién se aconsejó para que le hiciera comprender, para que le enseñara el sendero del derecho, para que le enseñara la ciencia y le hiciera conocer el camino de la inteligencia?
15 See, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, coastsand islands weigh no more than fine powder.	15 Sí, las naciones son como una gota que cae de un balde, cuentan como un grano de polvo en la balanza; las islas pesan lo mismo que el polvillo.
16 The Lebanon is not enough for the burning fires nor its animals enough for the burnt offering.	16 El Líbano no bastarías para encender fogatas, sus animales no bastarían para los holocaustos.
17 Al the nations are as nothing before him, for him they count as nothingness and emptiness.	17 Todas las naciones son como nada ante él, cuentan para él como la nada y el vacío.
18 To whom can you compare God? What image can you contrive of him?	18 ¿A quién asemejarán ustedes a Dios y con qué imagen lo representarán?
19 The craftsman casts an idol, a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.	19 Al ídolo, lo funde un artesano, un orfebre lo recubre de oro y le suelda cadenas de plata.
20 Someone too poor to afford a sacrifice chooses a piece of wood that will not rot; he then seeks out askil ed craftsman to set up an idol that wil not totter.	20 El que es demasiado pobre para hacer esa ofrenda elige una madera que no se pudra y se busca un hábil artesano para erigir un ídolo que no se tambalee.
21 Did you not know, had you not heard? Was it not told you from the beginning? Have you notunderstood how the earth was set on its foundations?	21 ¿No lo saben acaso? ¿Nunca lo han escuchado? ¿No se les anunció desde el principio? ¿No han comprendido cómo se fundó la tierra?
22 He who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, the inhabitants of which are like grasshoppers,stretches out the heavens like a cloth, spreads them out like a tent to live in.	22 El está sentado sobre la cúpula de la tierra, donde los habitantes son como langostas. El extiende los cielos como un tul, los despliega como una carpa para habitar en ellos.
23 He reduces princes to nothing, the rulers of the world to mere emptiness.	23 El aniquila a los soberanos y reduce a nada a los árbitros de la tierra:
24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the soil, than he blowson them and they wither and the storm carries them away like chaff.	24 apenas plantados, apenas sembrados, apenas su tallo echa raíz en la tierra, él sopla sobre ellos y se secan, y el huracán se los lleva como paja.
25 'To whom can you compare me, or who is my equal?' says the Holy One.	25 «¿A quién me va a asemejar, para que yo me iguale a él?» dice el Santo.
26 Lift your eyes and look: he who created these things leads out their army in order, summoning each ofthem by name. So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer.	26 Levanten los ojos a lo alto y miren: ¿quién creó todos estos seres? El que hace salir a su ejército uno por uno y los llama a todos por su nombre: ¡su vigor es tan grande, tan firme su fuerza, que no falta ni uno solo!
27 How can you say, Jacob, how can you repeat, Israel, 'My way is hidden from Yahweh, my rights areignored by my God'?	27 ¿Por qué dices Jacob, y lo repites tú, Israel: «Al Señor se le oculta mi camino y mi derecho pasa desapercibido a mi Dios?
28 Did you not know? Had you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, he created the remotest partsof the earth. He does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming.	28 ¿No lo saber acaso? ¿Nunca lo has escuchado? El Señor es un Dios eterno, él crea los confines de la tierra: no se fatiga ni se agota, su inteligencia es inescrutable.
29 He gives strength to the weary, he strengthens the powerless.	29 El fortalece al que está fatigado y acrecienta la fuerza del que no tiene vigor.
30 Youths grow tired and weary, the young stumble and fal ,	30 Los jóvenes se fatigan y se agotan, los muchachos tropiezan y caen.
31 but those who hope in Yahweh wil regain their strength, they wil sprout wings like eagles, thoughthey run they will not grow weary, though they walk they wil never tire.	31 Pero los que esperan en el Señor renuevan sus fuerzas, despliegan alas como las águilas; corren y no se agotan, avanzan y no se fatigan.
