Isaiah 40

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Console my people, console them,' says your God.	1 "Consolate, consolate il mio popolo, dice il vostro Dio.
2 'Speak to the heart of Jerusalem and cry to her that her period of service is ended, that her guilt hasbeen atoned for, that, from the hand of Yahweh, she has received double punishment for all her sins.'	2 Parlate al cuore di Gerusalemme e annunziatele che la sua schiavitù è finita, che la sua colpa è espiata, ch'essa ricevette dalla mano del Signore il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati".
3 A voice cries, 'Prepare in the desert a way for Yahweh. Make a straight highway for our God across thewastelands.	3 Una voce grida: "Nel deserto preparate la via del Signore! Raddrizzate nella steppa la strada per il nostro Dio.
4 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, every cliff become a plateau, everyescarpment a plain;	4 Ogni valle sia colmata e ogni montagna e collina siano abbassate, il terreno accidentato diventi piano e quello scosceso una valle;
5 then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed and al humanity wil see it together, for the mouth of Yahwehhas spoken.'	5 allora si rivelerà la gloria del Signore e ogni uomo la vedrà; perché la bocca del Signore ha parlato".
6 A voice said, 'Cry aloud!' and I said, 'What shal I cry?' -'All humanity is grass and all its beauty like thewild flower's.	6 Una voce dice: "Annuncia!", e io domando: "Che cosa annuncerò?". "Ogni uomo è come erba e ogni sua gloria è come fiore del campo.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of Yahweh blows on them. (The grass is surely thepeople.)	7 L'erba si secca, il fiore appassisce, quando il vento del Signore soffia su di essi.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God remains for ever.'	8 L'erba si secca, il fiore appassisce, ma la parola del nostro Dio rimarrà in eterno".
9 Go up on a high mountain, messenger of Zion. Shout as loud as you can, messenger of Jerusalem!Shout fearlessly, say to the towns of Judah, 'Here is your God.'	9 Sali su un'alta montagna, messaggera di Sion! Eleva con forza la tua voce, messaggera di Gerusalemme, elevala, non temere! Di' alle città di Giuda: "Ecco il vostro Dio!".
10 Here is Lord Yahweh coming with power, his arm maintains his authority, his reward is with him andhis prize precedes him.	10 Ecco, il Signore Dio si avanza con potenza, col suo braccio egli domina; ecco: è con lui il suo premio, la sua ricompensa lo precede.
11 He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms, holding them against his breastand leading to their rest the mother ewes.	11 Come un pastore egli pascola il gregge, lo raduna con il braccio, porta gli agnellini sul petto, e guida al riposo le madri allattanti.
12 Who was it measured the water of the sea in the hol ow of his hand and calculated the heavens to thenearest inch, gauged the dust of the earth to the nearest bushel, weighed the mountains in scales, the hil s in abalance?	12 Chi misurò le acque del mare col cavo della mano e calcolò la distesa dei cieli con il palmo? Chi contenne con un moggio la polvere della terra, pesò le montagne con la stadera e le valli con la bilancia?
13 Who directed the spirit of Yahweh, what counsellor could have instructed him?	13 Chi diresse lo spirito del Signore, o lo istruì come consigliere?
14 Whom has he consulted to enlighten him, to instruct him in the path of judgement, to teach himknowledge and show him how to understand?	14 Con chi si consultò per riceverne sapienza e per apprendere la via della giustizia, per imparare la scienza e per rivelargli la via dell'intelligenza?
15 See, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, coastsand islands weigh no more than fine powder.	15 Ecco, le nazioni sono come una goccia di un secchio, sono considerate come pulviscolo sulla bilancia, ecco, le isole pesano come la polvere.
16 The Lebanon is not enough for the burning fires nor its animals enough for the burnt offering.	16 Il Libano non basterebbe per il rogo, né le sue bestie per l'olocausto.
17 Al the nations are as nothing before him, for him they count as nothingness and emptiness.	17 Tutte le nazioni sono un nulla davanti a lui, come nullità e vuoto sono ritenute da lui.
18 To whom can you compare God? What image can you contrive of him?	18 A chi paragonerete Dio? Quale immagine gli potete trovare?
19 The craftsman casts an idol, a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.	19 Il fabbro fonde l'idolo, l'orafo lo ricopre d'oro e fonde le catenelle d'argento.
20 Someone too poor to afford a sacrifice chooses a piece of wood that will not rot; he then seeks out askil ed craftsman to set up an idol that wil not totter.	20 Chi ha poco da offrire, sceglie un legno che non marcisce, si cerca un abile artigiano, per preparare una statua che non si muove.
21 Did you not know, had you not heard? Was it not told you from the beginning? Have you notunderstood how the earth was set on its foundations?	21 Forse non lo sapete, non l'avete udito? Non vi è stato forse annunciato dall'inizio? Non avete compreso le fondazioni della terra?
22 He who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, the inhabitants of which are like grasshoppers,stretches out the heavens like a cloth, spreads them out like a tent to live in.	22 Egli siede al di sopra della volta del mondo, i cui abitanti sono come cavallette. Egli distende i cieli come un velo, li dispiega come una tenda in cui si abita.
23 He reduces princes to nothing, the rulers of the world to mere emptiness.	23 Egli riduce i prìncipi a un nulla e rende i dominatori della terra simili al niente.
24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the soil, than he blowson them and they wither and the storm carries them away like chaff.	24 Appena sono piantati, appena seminati, appena i germogli han messo radici in terra, egli soffia su di loro ed essi inaridiscono, l'uragano li porta via come stoppia.
25 'To whom can you compare me, or who is my equal?' says the Holy One.	25 "A chi mi paragonerete, chi sarebbe il mio uguale?", dice il Santo.
26 Lift your eyes and look: he who created these things leads out their army in order, summoning each ofthem by name. So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer.	26 Levate in alto i vostri occhi e mirate: chi ha creato tali cose? Egli fa uscire e conta il loro esercito e le chiama tutte per nome; davanti al suo grande vigore e la sua ardente forza nessuno manca.
27 How can you say, Jacob, how can you repeat, Israel, 'My way is hidden from Yahweh, my rights areignored by my God'?	27 "Perché dici, o Giacobbe, e tu, Israele, affermi: "Il mio cammino è nascosto al Signore e il mio diritto sfugge al mio Dio"?".
28 Did you not know? Had you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, he created the remotest partsof the earth. He does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming.	28 Non lo sai forse? Non l'hai udito? Il Signore è un Dio eterno; egli ha creato i confini della terra, non si affatica e non si stanca, la sua intelligenza è insondabile.
29 He gives strength to the weary, he strengthens the powerless.	29 Egli dà forza allo stanco, accresce il vigore allo spossato.
30 Youths grow tired and weary, the young stumble and fal ,	30 I giovani si stancano e si affaticano, gli adulti inciampano e cadono,
31 but those who hope in Yahweh wil regain their strength, they wil sprout wings like eagles, thoughthey run they will not grow weary, though they walk they wil never tire.	31 ma quelli che sperano nel Signore rinnovano le loro forze, mettono ali come aquile, corrono senza affaticarsi, camminano senza stancarsi.
