Isaiah 40

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 'Console my people, console them,' says your God.	1 Consolatevi, consolatevi, popol mio, dice il Dio vostro.
2 'Speak to the heart of Jerusalem and cry to her that her period of service is ended, that her guilt hasbeen atoned for, that, from the hand of Yahweh, she has received double punishment for all her sins.'	2 Parlate al cuor di Gerusalemme, e racconsolatela; perocché è finita l'afflizione di lei, e la sua iniquità, e perdonata: ella ha ricevuto dalla mano del Signore il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati.
3 A voice cries, 'Prepare in the desert a way for Yahweh. Make a straight highway for our God across thewastelands.	3 Voce di uno, che grida nel deserto: Preparate la via del Signore, raddirizzate nella solitudine i sentieri del nostro Dio.
4 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, every cliff become a plateau, everyescarpment a plain;	4 Ogni valle sarà colmata, e ogni monte, e ogni colle sarà abbassato, e lestrade storte diventeranno diritte, e piane le malagevoli;
5 then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed and al humanity wil see it together, for the mouth of Yahwehhas spoken.'	5 Perocché manifesterassi la gloria del Signore, e vedran tutti gli uomini insieme quello, che la bocca del Signore ha annunziato.
6 A voice said, 'Cry aloud!' and I said, 'What shal I cry?' -'All humanity is grass and all its beauty like thewild flower's.	6 Voce di uno, che dice: Grida. Ed io dissi: Che è quello, che io ho da gridare? Tutta carne è erba, e tutta la gloria di lei è come il fiore de' campi.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of Yahweh blows on them. (The grass is surely thepeople.)	7 Si secca l'erba, e cade il fiore ognivolta che il fiato del Signore lo investe. Veramente un'erba è il popolo:
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God remains for ever.'	8 Si secca l'erba, e cade il fiore: ma la parola del Signor nostro sta in eterno.
9 Go up on a high mountain, messenger of Zion. Shout as loud as you can, messenger of Jerusalem!Shout fearlessly, say to the towns of Judah, 'Here is your God.'	9 Sopra un alto monte ascendi tu, che evangelizzi Sionne: alza vigorosa la voce tua, o tu, che evangelizzi Gerusalemme: grida forte, non temere. Dì alle città di Giuda: Ecco il Dio vostro;
10 Here is Lord Yahweh coming with power, his arm maintains his authority, his reward is with him andhis prize precedes him.	10 Ecco che il Signore Dio verrà con possanza, e il braccio di lui dominerà: ecco che egli ha seco la sua mercede, ed ha davanti a se l'opra sua.
11 He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering lambs in his arms, holding them against his breastand leading to their rest the mother ewes.	11 Egli come pastore pascerà il suo gregge: egli colla sua fortezza raccoglierà gli agnelli, e li solleverà al suo seno, porterà egli stesso le pecorelle, che sono piene.
12 Who was it measured the water of the sea in the hol ow of his hand and calculated the heavens to thenearest inch, gauged the dust of the earth to the nearest bushel, weighed the mountains in scales, the hil s in abalance?	12 Chi è colui, che ha misurato nel suo pugno le acque, e ha pesati i cieli nella palma distesa? Chi è, che con tre dita sostiene la macchina della terra, e scandaglia i monti, e mette in bilancia le colline?
13 Who directed the spirit of Yahweh, what counsellor could have instructed him?	13 Chi ha dato aiuto allo spirito del Signore? Chi gli ha dato consiglio, e chi gli ha insegnato?
14 Whom has he consulted to enlighten him, to instruct him in the path of judgement, to teach himknowledge and show him how to understand?	14 Chi ha egli chiamato a consulta, e chi è, che abbia istruito lui, e a lui abbia mostrata la via della giustizia, e lo abbia stradato nella scienza, e gli abbia fatto conoscer la strada della prudenza?
15 See, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, coastsand islands weigh no more than fine powder.	15 Ecco che le nazioni sono come una goccia della secchia, e son valutate come uno scrupolo, che dà il tratto alla bilancia: ecco che le isole son come un granellino di polvere.
16 The Lebanon is not enough for the burning fires nor its animals enough for the burnt offering.	16 E il Libano non ha legna a sufficienza pel fuoco, né le bestie del Libano basterebbero per gli olocausti.
17 Al the nations are as nothing before him, for him they count as nothingness and emptiness.	17 Le genti tutte sono dinanzi a lui come se non fossero, e come un niente, e cosa vuota di essere sono stimate riguardo a lui.
18 To whom can you compare God? What image can you contrive of him?	18 A qual cosa adunque avete voi rassomigliato Dio? o qual immagine farete di lui?
19 The craftsman casts an idol, a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.	19 Non è egli il fabbro quello, che ha gettata la statua, e l'orefice l'ha formata di oro, e di lame d'argento l'argentiere?
20 Someone too poor to afford a sacrifice chooses a piece of wood that will not rot; he then seeks out askil ed craftsman to set up an idol that wil not totter.	20 L'artefice intelligente cerca legno forte, e che non si corrompa, proccura di assicurare l'idolo, che non sia smosso.
21 Did you not know, had you not heard? Was it not told you from the beginning? Have you notunderstood how the earth was set on its foundations?	21 Non sapete voi, non avete udito, non fu egli annunziato a voi fin da principio, non avete voi compreso come fu fondata la terra?
22 He who sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, the inhabitants of which are like grasshoppers,stretches out the heavens like a cloth, spreads them out like a tent to live in.	22 Que', che seggono sul globo della terra, e la abitano, sono quasi locuste. Dio distese qual sottilissima cosa i cieli, e li dispiegò come un padiglione, che serve d'alloggio.
23 He reduces princes to nothing, the rulers of the world to mere emptiness.	23 Egli riduce nel niente gl'investigatori delle occulte cose, ed annicchila i giudici della terra.
24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the soil, than he blowson them and they wither and the storm carries them away like chaff.	24 E il loro tronco non è né piantato, né seminato, né radicato nella terra: colpiti dal soffio di lui inaridiscono, e sono dispersi come stoppia da un turbine:
25 'To whom can you compare me, or who is my equal?' says the Holy One.	25 E a qual cosa mi avete voi assomigliato, e a qual cosa agguagliato mi avete, dice il Santo?
26 Lift your eyes and look: he who created these things leads out their army in order, summoning each ofthem by name. So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer.	26 Alzate all'alto gli occhi vostri, e considerate chi tali cose creò: chi la loro moltitudine guida con ordine, e tutte pel suo nome le chiama, e per la grandezza della possanza, e della fortezza, e della virtù di lui neppur una rimane indietro.
27 How can you say, Jacob, how can you repeat, Israel, 'My way is hidden from Yahweh, my rights areignored by my God'?	27 Per qual ragione dici tu, o Giacobbe, e pronunzi tu, o Israele: Non è noto al Signore lo stato mio, e non preme al mio Dio di farmi ragione?
28 Did you not know? Had you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, he created the remotest partsof the earth. He does not grow tired or weary, his understanding is beyond fathoming.	28 Ignori tu, e non hai udito, che Dio è l'eterno Signore, che creò la terra quant' ella è ampia; ch'ei non sente fiacchezza, né affanno, ed è imperscrutabile la sua sapienza?
29 He gives strength to the weary, he strengthens the powerless.	29 Egli al fiacco dà robustezza; e a que', che non sono, somministra forza, e vigore.
30 Youths grow tired and weary, the young stumble and fal ,	30 La fresca età verrà meno per la stanchezza, e la gioventù per debolezza cadrà.
31 but those who hope in Yahweh wil regain their strength, they wil sprout wings like eagles, thoughthey run they will not grow weary, though they walk they wil never tire.	31 Ma que', che sperano nel Signore, acquisteranno nuova fortezza, prenderanno ale di aquila, correranno senza fatica, cammineranno senza stancarsi.
