NEW JERUSALEM | VULGATA |
---|---|
Yahweh, you are my God, I shall praise you to the heights, I shal praise your name; for you haveaccomplished marvels, plans long-conceived, faithful y, firmly. | 1 Domine, Deus meus es tu ; exaltabo te, et confitebor nomini tuo : quoniam fecisti mirabilia, cogitationes antiquas fideles. Amen. |
For you have made the town a heap of stones, the fortified city a ruin. The foreigners' citadel is a cityno longer, it wil never be rebuilt. | 2 Quia posuisti civitatem in tumulum, urbem fortem in ruinam, domum alienorum : ut non sit civitas, et in sempiternum non ædificetur. |
Hence mighty peoples wil honour you, the city of pitiless nations hold you in awe; | 3 Super hoc laudabit te populus fortis ; civitas gentium robustarum timebit te : |
For you have been a refuge for the weak, a refuge for the needy in distress, a shelter from the storm, shade from the heat; for the breath of the pitiless is like a winter storm. | 4 quia factus es fortitudo pauperi, fortitudo egeno in tribulatione sua, spes a turbine, umbraculum ab æstu ; spiritus enim robustorum quasi turbo impellens parietem. |
Like heat in a dry land you calm the foreigners' tumult; as heat under the shadow of a cloud, so thesong of the pitiless dies away. | 5 Sicut æstus in siti, tumultum alienorum humiliabis ; et quasi calore sub nube torrente, propaginem fortium marcescere facies. |
On this mountain, for al peoples, Yahweh Sabaoth is preparing a banquet of rich food, a banquet offine wines, of succulent food, of well-strained wines. | 6 Et faciet Dominus exercituum omnibus populis in monte hoc convivium pinguium, convivium vindemiæ, pinguium medullatorum, vindemiæ defæcatæ. |
On this mountain, he has destroyed the veil which used to veil al peoples, the pal enveloping alnations; | 7 Et præcipitabit in monte isto faciem vinculi colligati super omnes populos, et telam quam orditus est super omnes nationes. |
he has destroyed death for ever. Lord Yahweh has wiped away the tears from every cheek; he hastaken his people's shame away everywhere on earth, for Yahweh has spoken. | 8 Præcipitabit mortem in sempiternum ; et auferet Dominus Deus lacrimam ab omni facie, et opprobrium populi sui auferet de universa terra : quia Dominus locutus est. |
And on that day, it wil be said, 'Look, this is our God, in him we put our hope that he should save us,this is Yahweh, we put our hope in him. Let us exult and rejoice since he has saved us.' | 9 Et dicet in die illa : Ecce Deus noster iste ; exspectavimus eum, et salvabit nos ; iste Dominus, sustinuimus eum : exsultabimus, et lætabimur in salutari ejus. |
For Yahweh's hand will rest on this mountain, and Moab wil be trodden under his feet as straw istrodden into the dung-heap. | 10 Quia requiescet manus Domini in monte isto ; et triturabitur Moab sub eo, sicuti teruntur paleæ in plaustro. |
He may stretch his hands wide on the mountain like a swimmer stretching out his hands to swim. Buthe wil humble his pride despite what his hands may attempt. | 11 Et extendet manus suas sub eo sicut extendit natans ad natandum ; et humiliabit gloriam ejus cum allisione manuum ejus. |
And the impregnable fortress of your walls, he has overthrown, laid low, flung to the ground, in thedust. | 12 Et munimenta sublimium murorum tuorum concident, et humiliabuntur, et detrahentur in terram usque ad pulverem. |
