Isaiah 17

1 Proclamation about Damascus: Damascus wil soon cease to be a city, it wil become a heap of ruins.	1 Vaticinio a carico di Damasco. Ecco che Damasco cesserà di essere città, e resterà come un mucchio di pietre di una rovina.
2 Its towns, abandoned for ever, wil be pastures for flocks; there they wil rest with no one to disturbthem.	2 Le città di Aroer saranno abbandonate ai greggi, che vi riposeranno senza essere scacciati da nessuno.
3 Ephraim wil be stripped of its defences and Damascus of its sovereignty; and the remnant of Aram wilbe treated like the glory of the Israelites -- declares Yahweh Sabaoth.	3 Efraim non avrà più appoggio e Damasco non avrà più regno, e sarà degli avanzi della Siria come della gloria dei figli d'Israele, — dice il Signore degli eserciti.
4 When that day comes, Jacob's glory wil diminish, from being fat he wil grow lean;	4 In quel giorno sarà umiliata la gloria di Giacobbe, e dimagrerà il grasso della sua carne.
5 as when a reaper gathers in the standing corn, harvesting the ears of corn with his arm, or when theyglean the ears in the Val ey of Rephaim,	5 Ed egli sarà come uno che raccoglie ciò che resta dopo la mietitura, e il suo braccio raccoglierà delle spighe ed egli sarà come chi cerca le spighe nella valle di Rafim.
6 nothing wil remain but pickings, as when an olive tree is beaten; two or three berries left on thetopmost bough, four or five berries on the branches of the tree -- declares Yahweh, God of Israel.	6 In lui resteranno dei racimoli, come, dopo scosso l'ulivo, due o tre ulive alla punta di un ramo saran tutti i suoi frutti, o quattro o cinque sulla cima della pianta: — dice il Signore Dio d'Israele. —
7 That day, a man wil look to his Creator and his eyes wil turn to the Holy One of Israel.	7 In quel giorno l'uomo si volgerà al suo Fattore e i suoi occhi saran rivolti al Santo d'Israele.
8 He will no longer look to altars, his own handiwork, or to what his own fingers have made: the sacredpoles and incense-altars.	8 E non si volgerà agli altari fatti dalle sue mani, non guarderà più alle cose fatte dalle sue dita, ai boschi, ai delubri.
9 That day, its cities of refuge wil be abandoned as were the woods and heaths at the Israelites'advance: there wil be desolation.	9 In quel giorno le sue città forti saranno abbandonate come gli aratri e le biade furono abbandonate all'arrivo dei figli d'Israele, e tu resterai un deserto;
10 Since you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and failed to keep the Rock, your refuge, in mind,you plant pleasure-gardens, you sow exotic seeds;	10 perchè ti sei dimenticata di Dio tuo salvatore, non ti sei ricordata del tuo potente soccorso. Per ciò tu pianterai pianta fedele, e seminerai straniera semenza,
11 the day you plant them, you get them to sprout, and, next morning, your seedlings are in flower; butthe harvest wil vanish on the day of disease and incurable pain.	11 Quando pianterai, sarà lambrusca, nel mattino fiorirà il tuo seminato: la messe sarà portata via nel giorno della raccolta, e ne avrai gran dolore.
12 Disaster! The thunder of vast hordes, a thunder like the thunder of the seas, the roar of nationsroaring like the roar of mighty floods,	12 Guai alla moltitudine dai molti popoli, come la moltitudine dei flutti muggenti, tumulto di folle, come tumulto di grandi acque.
13 of nations roaring like the roar of ocean! He rebukes them and far away they flee, driven like chaff onthe mountains before the wind, like an eddy of dust before the storm.	13 I popoli rumoreggeranno come acque inondanti; ma lo sgriderà ed egli fuggirà lontano. E sarà disperso come sui monti la polvere al soffiar del vento, come turbine davanti alla tempesta.
14 At evening al is terror, by morning al have disappeared. Such wil be the lot of those who plunder us,such, the fate of our despoilers.	14 Sul far della sera, ecco il turbamento, al mattino non sarà più. Questo è ciò che toccherà a coloro che ci han saccheggiati, la sorte dei nostri predatori.
