Isaiah 17

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Proclamation about Damascus: Damascus wil soon cease to be a city, it wil become a heap of ruins.	1 Oráculo sobre Damasco, ¡Miren! damasco ya no será una ciudad, se ha convertido en un montón de ruinas,
2 Its towns, abandoned for ever, wil be pastures for flocks; there they wil rest with no one to disturbthem.	2 Sus poblaciones, abandonadas para siempre, serán para los rebaños: allí pacerán sin que nadie los moleste.
3 Ephraim wil be stripped of its defences and Damascus of its sovereignty; and the remnant of Aram wilbe treated like the glory of the Israelites -- declares Yahweh Sabaoth.	3 Efraím perderá su plaza fuerte y Damasco; la realeza. El resto de Aram tendrá la misma suerte que la gloria de los hijos de Israel –oráculo del Señor de los ejércitos–.
4 When that day comes, Jacob's glory wil diminish, from being fat he wil grow lean;	4 Aquel día, disminuirá a la gloria de Jacob y enflaquecerá la gordura de su cuerpo.
5 as when a reaper gathers in the standing corn, harvesting the ears of corn with his arm, or when theyglean the ears in the Val ey of Rephaim,	5 Será como cuando el segador recoge la mies y su brazo siega las espigas, como cuando se desgranan las espigas en el valle de Refaím
6 nothing wil remain but pickings, as when an olive tree is beaten; two or three berries left on thetopmost bough, four or five berries on the branches of the tree -- declares Yahweh, God of Israel.	6 y sólo queda un residuo; o como cuando se golpea un olivo: quedan dos o tres aceitunas en lo alto de la copa, cuatro o cinco en las ramas del árbol frutal –oráculo del Señor, Dios de Israel–.
7 That day, a man wil look to his Creator and his eyes wil turn to the Holy One of Israel.	7 Aquel día, el hombre volverá la mirada hacia su Creador, y sus ojos mirarán al Santo de Israel.
8 He will no longer look to altars, his own handiwork, or to what his own fingers have made: the sacredpoles and incense-altars.	8 Ya no volverá la mirada hacia los altares que son obra de sus manos, ni mirará hacia los postes sagrados y los altares de incienso que fabricaron sus dedos.
9 That day, its cities of refuge wil be abandoned as were the woods and heaths at the Israelites'advance: there wil be desolation.	9 Aquel día, tus ciudades de refugio serán abandonadas como las de los jivitas y los amorreos delante de los hijos de Israel, y habrá una desolación.
10 Since you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and failed to keep the Rock, your refuge, in mind,you plant pleasure-gardens, you sow exotic seeds;	10 Porque tú has olvidado al Dios de tu salvación y no te has acordado de la Roca de tu refugio. Por eso plantas plantaciones deliciosas e injertas gajos extranjeros.
11 the day you plant them, you get them to sprout, and, next morning, your seedlings are in flower; butthe harvest wil vanish on the day of disease and incurable pain.	11 El mismo día que plantas, los ves crecer, y a la mañana siguiente, ves germinar tu semilla. Pero la cosecha se pierde en un día funesto, y el dolor es incurable.
12 Disaster! The thunder of vast hordes, a thunder like the thunder of the seas, the roar of nationsroaring like the roar of mighty floods,	12 ¡Ah, ese rugido de pueblos numerosos, que rugen como rugen los mares! ¡Ese bramido de naciones, que braman como las aguas encrespadas.
13 of nations roaring like the roar of ocean! He rebukes them and far away they flee, driven like chaff onthe mountains before the wind, like an eddy of dust before the storm.	13 El los amenaza, y huyen bien lejos, empujados como paja por el viento de las montañas, como la flor del cardo por el vendaval.
14 At evening al is terror, by morning al have disappeared. Such wil be the lot of those who plunder us,such, the fate of our despoilers.	14 ¡Al atardecer, sobreviene el espanto, antes del amanecer, ya no existen más! Esta es la parte de los que nos despojan y la suerte de los que nos saquean.
