NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Making your neighbour a loan is an act of mercy, to lend him a helping hand is to keep thecommandments.	1 Chi è misericordioso presta al suo prossimo, e chi ha mano generosa osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to your neighbour in his time of need, and in your turn repay your neighbour on time.	2 Presta al tuo prossimo quando ha bisogno, e restituisci al prossimo a suo tempo.
3 Be as good as your word and keep faith with him, and you wil find your needs met every time.	3 Mantieni la parola e agisci lealmente con lui, e troverai in ogni tempo quello che ti bisogna.
4 Many treat a loan as a windfal , and embarrass those who have come to their rescue.	4 Molti tennero come roba trovata quella presa in prestito, e diedero molestie a chi li aveva aiutati.
5 Until he gets something, a man wil kiss his neighbour's hand, and refer diffidently to his wealth; butwhen the loan fal s due, he puts this off, he repays with offhand words, and pleads the inconvenience of the time.	5 Finché ricevono baciano le mani a chi loro dà, promettono con voce sommessa,
6 Even if he can be made to pay, his creditor wil recover barely half, and consider even that a windfal .But otherwise he wil be cheated of his money, and undeservedly gain himself an enemy; the man wil pay himback in curses and abuse, and with insults instead of honour.	6 ma venuto il tempo della restituzione, chiedono tempo, dicon cose noiose, mormorano e dan la colpa al tempo.
7 Many, not out of malice, refuse to lend; they are merely anxious not to be cheated for nothing.	7 Se può pagare, fa delle difficoltà; renderà appena la metà di quanto deve, e (il creditore) dovrà contarlo come danaro trovato;
8 Nevertheless, be patient with those who are badly off, do not keep them waiting on your generosity.	8 altrimenti lo priva del suo, e acquista gratuitamente un nemico,
9 In obedience to the commandment, help the poor; do not turn the poor away empty-handed in theirneed.	9 e lo paga con ingiurie e maledizioni, e invece di onore e benefizi gli rende insulti.
10 Spend your money on your brother or your friend, do not leave it under a stone to rust away.	10 Molti non prestano, non per cattivo cuore, ma perchè temono d'essere ingiustamente frodati.
11 Use your wealth as the Most High has decreed; you will find that more profitable than gold.	11 Non ostante, sii d'animo generoso verso il meschino, e non gli fare aspettare la tua elemosina.
12 Stock your store-rooms with almsgiving; this will save you from al misfortune.	12 A causa del comandamento assisti il povero, e non lo rimandare a mani vuote nel suo bisogno.
13 Better than sturdy shield or weighty spear, this will fight for you against the enemy.	13 Perdi il danaro per amor del fratello e del tuo amico, e non lo seppellire senza profitto sotto una pietra.
14 A good man wil go surety for his neighbour; only a shameless wretch would desert him.	14 Impiega i tuoi tesori secondo i precetti dell'Altissimo, e ciò ti gioverà più dell'oro.
15 Do not forget the favour your guarantor has done you; he has given his life for you.	15 Nascondi l'elemosina nel seno del povero, ed essa pregherà per te contro ogni male.
16 A sinner is careless of his guarantor's prosperity, the ungrateful forgets his deliverer.	16 Meglio di saldo scudo e di lancia essa combatterà contro il tuo nemico.
17 Going surety has ruined many who were prosperous, tossing them about in a heavy sea.	17 .
18 It has driven the powerful from home to wander among foreign nations.	18 .
19 A wicked man in a hurry to stand guarantor in the hope of profit, is hurrying to be sentenced.	19 L'uomo onesto si fa mallevadore pel suo prossimo, ma chi ha perduto ogni vergogna lo abbandona a se stesso.
20 Come to your neighbour's help as far as you can, but take care not to fall into the same plight.	20 Non dimenticare il benefìzio del mallevadore, perchè ha esposta per te la sua vita.
21 The first thing in life is water, and bread, and clothing, and a house for the sake of privacy.	21 Il peccatore e l'immondo fuggono il loro mallevadore.
22 Better the life of the poor under a roof of planks, than lavish fare in somebody else's house.	22 Iò peccatore s'attribuisce i beni del suo mallevadore, e l'ingrato di cuore abbandonerà chi lo ha liberato.
23 Whether you have little or much, be content with it, and you wil not hear your household complaining.	23 Un uomo si fa mallevadore pel suo prossimo, e quello, mancandogli di ogni riguardo, l'abbandonerà.
24 It is a miserable life, going from house to house; wherever you stay, you dare not open your mouth,	24 Malleverie spropositate han rovinato molti che andavan bene, e li han messi sottosopra come tempesta di mare.
25 you do not belong, you receive no thanks for the drink you pour out and hear embittering words intothe bargain:	25 Hanno aggirato uominipotenti, li han costretti a fuggire, ad andare raminghi fra genti straniere.
26 'Come along, stranger, lay the table, what have you got ready? give me something to eat!'	26 Il peccatore che trasgredisce il comandamento di Dio s'impegnerà in malleverie rovinose, e chi tenta di far molte cose, cadrà sotto la giustizia.
27 'Go away, stranger, make room for someone important; my brother is coming to stay, I need thehouse.'	27 Aiuta il prossimo secondo il tuo potere, e veglia sopra te stesso per non cadere.
28 It is hard for the reasonable to be begrudged hospitality to be shamed like a debtor.	28 Il necessario alla vita umana è l'acqua, il pane, il vestito e la casa per coprire la nudità.
	29 Val più il vitto del povero sotto un tetto di tavole, che splendidi banchetti fuori di casa, senza domicilio.
	30 Contentati del poco come del molto, e non ti sentirai rinfacciare d'esser forestiero.
	31 L'è una brutta vita quella d'andare di casa in casa: dove uno è ospite non potrà agire con libertà, nè aprir bocca.
	32 Sarà ospite, darà da mangiare e da bere a gente in grata, e dopo questo sentirà amare parole:
	33 « Su via, ospite, ammannisci la tavola, con quello che hai teco dài da mangiare agli altri.
	34 Ritirati; c'è da fare onore ai miei amici, ho bisogno della mia casa: ricevo come ospite mio fratello ».
	35 Queste cose son gravi per un uomo che ha sentimento: i rimproveri del padrone di casa e le ingiurie del creditore.
