NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Making your neighbour a loan is an act of mercy, to lend him a helping hand is to keep thecommandments.	1 - Chi pratica la misericordia, impresta al suo prossimo e chi gli dà una mano, osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to your neighbour in his time of need, and in your turn repay your neighbour on time.	2 Presta al tuo prossimo nel tempo del suo bisogno, e a tua volta restituisci al prossimo a tempo dovuto.
3 Be as good as your word and keep faith with him, and you wil find your needs met every time.	3 Mantieni la parola e diportati fedelmente con lui, e in ogni tempo troverai ciò che ti occorre.
4 Many treat a loan as a windfal , and embarrass those who have come to their rescue.	4 Per molti un imprestito è come roba trovata, e procacciali noie a chi gli ha aiutati.
5 Until he gets something, a man wil kiss his neighbour's hand, and refer diffidently to his wealth; butwhen the loan fal s due, he puts this off, he repays with offhand words, and pleads the inconvenience of the time.	5 Finché ricevono, bacian la mano di chi dà, e in promesse umilian la voce;
6 Even if he can be made to pay, his creditor wil recover barely half, and consider even that a windfal .But otherwise he wil be cheated of his money, and undeservedly gain himself an enemy; the man wil pay himback in curses and abuse, and with insults instead of honour.	6 ma al momento di restituire, [ognuno] chiede tempo, e dà parole di rincrescimento e di rammarico, e incolpa i tempi.
7 Many, not out of malice, refuse to lend; they are merely anxious not to be cheated for nothing.	7 E s'è in grado di restituire, ricalcitra e rende appena la metà della somma, e [il creditore] può considerar [quel poco] come tanto di trovato.
8 Nevertheless, be patient with those who are badly off, do not keep them waiting on your generosity.	8 Se poi non è [in grado], lo defrauda del suo danaro, e quegli l'avrà come nemico, gratuitamente.
9 In obedience to the commandment, help the poor; do not turn the poor away empty-handed in theirneed.	9 E con ingiurie e maledizioni lo ripagherà, e in luogo di onori e benefici gli renderà oltraggio.
10 Spend your money on your brother or your friend, do not leave it under a stone to rust away.	10 Molti non danno in prestito non già per malvagità, ma [perchè] temono d'esser defraudati gratuitamente.
11 Use your wealth as the Most High has decreed; you will find that more profitable than gold.	11 Tuttavia verso il tapino sii generoso d'animo, e non lo tirare in lungo nel [fargli] limosina.
12 Stock your store-rooms with almsgiving; this will save you from al misfortune.	12 A motivo del comandamento soccorri il povero, e per la sua indigenza non lo rimandare a mani vuote.
13 Better than sturdy shield or weighty spear, this will fight for you against the enemy.	13 Perdi pure il danaro per il tuo fratello e amico, e non lo nasconder sotto una pietra [perchè s'arrugginisca e vada] In malora.
14 A good man wil go surety for his neighbour; only a shameless wretch would desert him.	14 Disponi del tuo tesoro secondo i comandamenti dell'Altissimo, e ti gioverà più che l'oro.
15 Do not forget the favour your guarantor has done you; he has given his life for you.	15 Chiudi la limosina nel cuor del povero, ed essa t'impetrerà [la liberazione] da ogni male.
16 A sinner is careless of his guarantor's prosperity, the ungrateful forgets his deliverer.	16 Meglio d'uno scudo potente e di [robusta] lancia, essa combatterà per te contro il tuo nemico.
17 Going surety has ruined many who were prosperous, tossing them about in a heavy sea.	17 -
18 It has driven the powerful from home to wander among foreign nations.	18 -
19 A wicked man in a hurry to stand guarantor in the hope of profit, is hurrying to be sentenced.	19 L'uomo dabbene presta mallevadoria per il suo prossimo; e chi ha perduto il pudore, l'abbandona a se stesso.
20 Come to your neighbour's help as far as you can, but take care not to fall into the same plight.	20 La cortesia del mallevadore non la dimenticare, chè per te ha esposto se stesso;
21 The first thing in life is water, and bread, and clothing, and a house for the sake of privacy.	21 è il peccatore e l'immondo che fugge il garante.
22 Better the life of the poor under a roof of planks, than lavish fare in somebody else's house.	22 I beni del garante si appropria il peccatore, e l'ingrato di cuore abbandona il suo liberatore.
23 Whether you have little or much, be content with it, and you wil not hear your household complaining.	23 Un uomo si fa garante del suo prossimo, e questi perduto [ogni] pudore, l'abbandona!
24 It is a miserable life, going from house to house; wherever you stay, you dare not open your mouth,	24 La mallevadoria imprudente rovinò molti benestanti, e li travolse come un'ondata di mare.
25 you do not belong, you receive no thanks for the drink you pour out and hear embittering words intothe bargain:	25 Uomini facoltosi cacciò lontano [dalle proprie case], e andaron vagando tra genti straniere.
26 'Come along, stranger, lay the table, what have you got ready? give me something to eat!'	26 Il peccatore che trasgredisce il comandamento del Signore incapperà in mallevadorie disastrose, e chi cerca far molti affari, incapperà in condanne.
27 'Go away, stranger, make room for someone important; my brother is coming to stay, I need thehouse.'	27 Soccorri il prossimo a seconda delle tue forze, e bada a te stesso, che tu non abbia a cadere.
28 It is hard for the reasonable to be begrudged hospitality to be shamed like a debtor.	28 La prima cosa per la vita dell'uomo è l'acqua e il pane e [poi] le vesti e una casa per coprir ciò ch'è vergogna.
	29 Meglio il vitto del povero sotto un tetto di tavole, che i sontuosi banchetti in casa d'altri, quando non s'ha la propria.
	30 Contentati del poco come del molto, e non udrai rinfacciarti d'essere un estraneo.
	31 Triste cosa l'andar peregrinando di casa in casa e là dove uno è ospite, non osa muoversi liberamente, non apre bocca.
	32 E' ospite e darà da mangiare e da bere senz'averne un grazie, e udrà per giunta parole amare.
	33 « Entra, il forestiero, e apparecchia la mensa, e se hai qualcosa alla mano, dà da mangiare [a me] e agli altri ».
	34 « Vattene, [o forestiero], lontano da questo splendore riservato ai miei amici; ho bisogno della casa, m'è giunto ospite un mio fratello».
	35 Dure cose son queste per un uomo che ha sentimento: il rimprovero del [padroni di casa e il rimbrotto di chi ha dato in prestito.
