Sirach 25

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 There are three things my soul delights in, and which are delightful to God and to all people: concordbetween brothers, friendship between neighbours, and a wife and husband who live happily together.	1 - Di tre cose si compiace l'animo mio che son gradite al cospetto di Dio e degli uomini:
2 There are three sorts of people my soul hates, and whose existence I consider an outrage: the poorswol en with pride, the rich who is a liar and an adulterous old man who has no sense.	2 la concordia tra fratelli e l'amicizia tra' vicini e moglie e marito che van d'accordo.
3 If you have gathered nothing in your youth, how can you discover anything in your old age?	3 Tre specie [di persone] odia l'anima mia, e ce l'ho assai con la loro esistenza:
4 How fine a thing: sound judgement with grey hairs, and for greybeards to know how to advise!	4 un povero superbo un ricco bugiardo e un vecchio stolto e scimunito.
5 How fine a thing: wisdom in the aged, and considered advice coming from people of distinction!	5 Quel che non raccogliesti nella tua gioventù come potrai trovarlo nella tua vecchiaia?
6 The crown of the aged is ripe experience, their glory, the fear of the Lord.	6 Quando sta bene il giudizio dei bianchi capelli e ai vecchi la scienza del consiglio!
7 There are nine things I can think of which strike me as happy, and a tenth which is now on my tongue:the man who can be proud of his children, he who lives to see the downfal of his enemies;	7 Quanto sta bene agli anziani la sapienza e ai dignitari l'intelletto e il consiglio!
8 happy is he who keeps house with a sensible wife; he who does not toil with ox and donkey; he whohas never sinned with his tongue; he who does not serve a man less worthy than himself;	8 La corona de' vegliardi è la molta esperienza e la loro gloria il timor del Signore.
9 happy is he who has acquired good sense and can find attentive ears for what he has to say;	9 Nove concetti stimo felici in cuor mio e il decimo lo bandirò con la lingua agli uomini.
10 how great is he who has acquired wisdom; but unsurpassed is one who fears the Lord.	10 L'uomo che trova letizia ne' figliuoli chi vive e vede la rovina de' propri nemici;
11 The fear of the Lord surpasses everything; what can compare with someone who has mastered that?	11 beato [anche] chi abita con una donna assennata e chi non pecca con la lingua e chi non è servo di persone indegne di lui;
12	12 beato chi ha trovato un vero amico e chi espone la giustizia ad un orecchio attento.
13 Any wound rather than a wound of the heart! Any spite rather than the spite of woman!	13 Quanto è grande colui che ha trovato la sapienza e il sapere! ma non è da più di chi teme il Signore.
14 Any evil rather than an evil caused by an enemy! Any vengeance rather than the vengeance of a foe!	14 Il timor del Signore si leva al disopra di tutte le cose:
15 There is no poison worse than the poison of a snake, there is no fury worse than the fury of an enemy.	15 beato l'uomo cui è dato avere il timor di Dio! chi lo possiede a chi mal potrà esser comparato?
16 I would sooner keep house with a lion or a dragon than keep house with a spiteful wife.	16 Il timor di Dio è il principio dell'amor verso di lui ma un principio di confidenza deve congiungersi ad esso.
17 A woman's spite changes her appearance and makes her face as grim as a bear's.	17 Cumulo d'ognl piaga è la tristezza del cuore e cumulo d'ognl male è la malvagità della donna.
18 When her husband goes out to dinner with his neighbours, he cannot help heaving bitter sighs.	18 Ogni plaga [sopporterò] ma non la piaga del cuore,
19 No spite can approach the spite of a woman, may a sinner's lot be hers!	19 e ogni malvagità ma non la malvagità di una donna.
20 Like the climbing of a sandhill for elderly feet, such is a garrulous wife for a quiet husband.	20 E ogni calamitàma non la calamità [proveniente] da chi [mi]odia
21 Do not be taken in by a woman's beauty, never lose your head over a woman.	21 e ogni vendetta ma non la vendetta de' nemici.
22 Bad temper, insolence and shame hold sway where the wife supports the husband.	22 Non c'è veleno peggiore del veleno del serpente
23 Low spirits, gloomy face, stricken heart: such is a spiteful wife. Slack hands and sagging knees: suchis the wife who does not make her husband happy.	23 e non c'è furore più [violento] del furore d'una donna. Amerei meglio coabitare con un leone o un drago che stare con una donna malvagia.
24 Sin began with a woman, and thanks to her we must al die.	24 La malvagità d'una donna sfigura la sua faccia e rende tetro il suo volto come quello d'un orso, e lo fa somigliare a una lugubre veste. In mezzo ai suoi vicini
25 Do not let water find a leak, nor a spiteful woman give free rein to her tongue.	25 geme il marito di lei e ascoltando[li] sospira amaramente.
26 If she wil not do as you tel her, get rid of her.	26 Ogni malvagità è piccola in confronto alla malvagità d'una donna, che la sorte del peccatore cada su lei!
	27 Quale una salita sabbiosa per i piedi d'un vecchio, tale è una donna linguacciuta per un uomo tranquillo.
	28 Non guardare alla bellezza d'una donna, e non bramare una donna a causa della sua ricchezza.
	29 L'ira d'una donna e l'impertinenza e la vergogna [è] grande]
	30 la donna, se spadroneggia, è contraria al suo marito,
	31 Un cuore abbattuto e un volto triste, e uno strazio di cuore, [ecco gli effetti di] una donna malvagia.
	32 Mani fiacche e ginocchia snervate, [ecco il frutto d']una donna che non rende felice il suo marito.
	33 Dalla donna ebbe origine il peccato, e per colpa sua tutti moriamo.
	34 Non lasciare all'acqua tua un'uscita, neanche piccola nè alla donna malvagia la libertà di farsi avanti.
	35 Se non si lascia guidar dalla tua mano, ti svergognerà dinanzi a' nemici:
	36 strappala dal tuo corpo, perchè non abusi sempre di te.
