Sirach 25

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 There are three things my soul delights in, and which are delightful to God and to all people: concordbetween brothers, friendship between neighbours, and a wife and husband who live happily together.	1 Con tres cosas me adorno y me presento embellecida delante del Señor y de los hombres: la concordia entre hermanos, la amistad entre vecinos y una mujer y un marido que se llevan bien.
2 There are three sorts of people my soul hates, and whose existence I consider an outrage: the poorswol en with pride, the rich who is a liar and an adulterous old man who has no sense.	2 Pero hay tres clases de gente que aborrezco y que me irritan por su manera de vivir: un pobre soberbio, un rico mentiroso y un viejo adúltero que ha perdido el juicio.
3 If you have gathered nothing in your youth, how can you discover anything in your old age?	3 Si no has ahorrado en la juventud, ¿cómo vas a encontrar algo en tu vejez?
4 How fine a thing: sound judgement with grey hairs, and for greybeards to know how to advise!	4 ¡Qué bello adorno para las canas es saber juzgar y para los ancianos, ser hombres de consejo!
5 How fine a thing: wisdom in the aged, and considered advice coming from people of distinction!	5 ¡Qué hermosa es la sabiduría de los ancianos, la reflexión y el consejo en la gente respetable!
6 The crown of the aged is ripe experience, their glory, the fear of the Lord.	6 Corona de los ancianos es una rica experiencia, y su orgullo, el temor del Señor.
7 There are nine things I can think of which strike me as happy, and a tenth which is now on my tongue:the man who can be proud of his children, he who lives to see the downfal of his enemies;	7 Hay nueve cosas imaginables, que considero felices, y la décima, también las voy a mencionar: un hombre que está contento de sus hijos y uno que ve en vida la caída de sus enemigos.
8 happy is he who keeps house with a sensible wife; he who does not toil with ox and donkey; he whohas never sinned with his tongue; he who does not serve a man less worthy than himself;	8 ¡Feliz el que vive con una esposa inteligente, el que no ha incurrido en falta con su lengua y el que no ha servido a un patrón indigno de él!
9 happy is he who has acquired good sense and can find attentive ears for what he has to say;	9 ¡Feliz el que ha encontrado la prudencia y el que la expone ante un auditorio atento!
10 how great is he who has acquired wisdom; but unsurpassed is one who fears the Lord.	10 ¡Qué grande es aquel que encontró la sabiduría! Pero nadie aventaja al que teme al Señor:
11 The fear of the Lord surpasses everything; what can compare with someone who has mastered that?	11 el temor del Señor supera a todos lo demás, y el que lo posee ¿a quién se puede comparar?
12	12 El temor del Señor es el comienzo de su amor, y es por la fe que uno empieza a unirse a él.
13 Any wound rather than a wound of the heart! Any spite rather than the spite of woman!	13 ¡Cualquier herida, menos la del corazón! ¡Cualquier maldad, menos la de una mujer!
14 Any evil rather than an evil caused by an enemy! Any vengeance rather than the vengeance of a foe!	14 ¡Cualquier desgracia, menos la causada por el odio! ¡Cualquier venganza, menos la de un enemigo!
15 There is no poison worse than the poison of a snake, there is no fury worse than the fury of an enemy.	15 No hay peor veneno que el de la serpiente, ni peor furia que la de la mujer.
16 I would sooner keep house with a lion or a dragon than keep house with a spiteful wife.	16 Preferiría habitar con un león o un dragón antes que vivir con una mala mujer.
17 A woman's spite changes her appearance and makes her face as grim as a bear's.	17 La maldad de una mujer desfigura su semblante y vuelve su rostro huraño como un oso.
18 When her husband goes out to dinner with his neighbours, he cannot help heaving bitter sighs.	18 Su marido se va a sentar en medio de sus vecinos y no puede reprimir sus amargos gemidos.
19 No spite can approach the spite of a woman, may a sinner's lot be hers!	19 Toda maldad es pequeña comparada con la de la mujer: ¡que caiga sobre ella la suerte del pecador!
20 Like the climbing of a sandhill for elderly feet, such is a garrulous wife for a quiet husband.	20 Cuesta arenosa para los pies de un anciano es la mujer charlatana para un esposo apacible.
21 Do not be taken in by a woman's beauty, never lose your head over a woman.	21 No te dejes cautivar por los encantos de una mujer ni te apasiones por ella.
22 Bad temper, insolence and shame hold sway where the wife supports the husband.	22 Estallido de enojo, infamia y una gran vergüenza esperan al hombre que es mantenido por su mujer.
23 Low spirits, gloomy face, stricken heart: such is a spiteful wife. Slack hands and sagging knees: suchis the wife who does not make her husband happy.	23 Corazón abatido, rostro sombrío y pena del alma es una mala mujer. Manos inertes y rodillas paralizadas es la mujer que no hace feliz al marido.
24 Sin began with a woman, and thanks to her we must al die.	24 Por una mujer tuvo comienzo el pecado, y a causa de ella, todos morimos.
25 Do not let water find a leak, nor a spiteful woman give free rein to her tongue.	25 No dejes correr el agua ni des libertad a una mala mujer.
26 If she wil not do as you tel her, get rid of her.	26 Si no camina como tú le indicas, arráncala de tu propia carne.
