1 There are three things my soul delights in, and which are delightful to God and to all people: concordbetween brothers, friendship between neighbours, and a wife and husband who live happily together.	1 Tre cose son secondo il mio cuore, le quali sono approvate da Dio, e dagli uomini.
2 There are three sorts of people my soul hates, and whose existence I consider an outrage: the poorswol en with pride, the rich who is a liar and an adulterous old man who has no sense.	2 La concordia de' fratelli, e l'amore de' prossimi, e un marito, e una moglie ben uniti tra loro.
3 If you have gathered nothing in your youth, how can you discover anything in your old age?	3 Tre specie di persone sono in odio all'anima mia, e mi stomacano i loro costumi.
4 How fine a thing: sound judgement with grey hairs, and for greybeards to know how to advise!	4 Il povero superbo, il ricco mendace, e il vecchio stolto, e senza prudenza.
5 How fine a thing: wisdom in the aged, and considered advice coming from people of distinction!	5 Quello, che tu non raunasti nella tua gioventù, come tel troverai nella tua vecchiezza?
6 The crown of the aged is ripe experience, their glory, the fear of the Lord.	6 Quanto bell'ornamento per la canizie è il saper giudicare, e pe' vecchi il saper dare consigli!
7 There are nine things I can think of which strike me as happy, and a tenth which is now on my tongue:the man who can be proud of his children, he who lives to see the downfal of his enemies;	7 Quanto bene sta la sapienza all'età avanzata, ed a que', che sono in dignità, l'intelligenza, e il consiglio!
8 happy is he who keeps house with a sensible wife; he who does not toil with ox and donkey; he whohas never sinned with his tongue; he who does not serve a man less worthy than himself;	8 Corona de' vecchi è la molta sperienza, e la loro gloria il timore di Dio.
9 happy is he who has acquired good sense and can find attentive ears for what he has to say;	9 Nove cose ho io stimato assai, e di esse nissuno avrà cattivo concetto in cuor suo, e la decima la aununzierò agli uomini colla mia lingua.
10 how great is he who has acquired wisdom; but unsurpassed is one who fears the Lord.	10 Un uomo, il quale ha consolazione da' figliuoli, e uno che vive, e vede la ruina de' suoi nemici.
11 The fear of the Lord surpasses everything; what can compare with someone who has mastered that?	11 Beato colui, che convive con una donna assennata, e quegli, che non ha peccato colla sua lingua, e quegli, che non è stato servo di persone indegne di lui.
12	12 Beato chi trova un vero amico, e chi espone la giustizia a un orecchio, che ascolta.
13 Any wound rather than a wound of the heart! Any spite rather than the spite of woman!	13 Quanto è beato chi trova la sapienza, e la scienza! ma nissuno supera colui, che teme Dio:
14 Any evil rather than an evil caused by an enemy! Any vengeance rather than the vengeance of a foe!	14 Il timore di Dio si alza sopra tuttele cose.
15 There is no poison worse than the poison of a snake, there is no fury worse than the fury of an enemy.	15 Beato l'uomo, a cui è stata dato il dono del timore di Dio: chi n'ha il possesso a qual cosa mai lo paragoneremo!
16 I would sooner keep house with a lion or a dragon than keep house with a spiteful wife.	16 Il timore di Dio è il principio dell'amore di lui, ma a lui dee congiuugersi il principio della fede.
17 A woman's spite changes her appearance and makes her face as grim as a bear's.	17 La tristezza del cuore è piaga somma; e la malvagità della donna è la somma malizia.
18 When her husband goes out to dinner with his neighbours, he cannot help heaving bitter sighs.	18 L'uomo tollererà qualunque piaga, ma non la piaga del cuore.
19 No spite can approach the spite of a woman, may a sinner's lot be hers!	19 E qualunque malvagità, ma non la malvagità della donna:
20 Like the climbing of a sandhill for elderly feet, such is a garrulous wife for a quiet husband.	20 E qualunque afflizione, ma non quella, che viene da quelli, che odiano:
21 Do not be taken in by a woman's beauty, never lose your head over a woman.	21 E qualunque pena, ma non quella, che danno i nemici.
22 Bad temper, insolence and shame hold sway where the wife supports the husband.	22 Non v'ha testa peggiore della testa del serpente:
23 Low spirits, gloomy face, stricken heart: such is a spiteful wife. Slack hands and sagging knees: suchis the wife who does not make her husband happy.	23 E non è sdegno peggiore di quel della donna. Vorrei piuttosto coabitare con un lione, e con un dragone, che con una donna malvagia.
24 Sin began with a woman, and thanks to her we must al die.	24 La malignità della donna cangia il suo volto, e rende fosco il suo visaggio come di un orso, ed ella diventa del colore di un sacco da duolo.
25 Do not let water find a leak, nor a spiteful woman give free rein to her tongue.	25 Il marito di lei in mezzo a' suoi vicini geme, e ascolta, e sospira pian piano.
26 If she wil not do as you tel her, get rid of her.	26 Leggera è qualunque malizia in paragone della malizia della donna, tocchi ella in sorte a un peccatore.
	27 Quello, che è ai piedi di un vecchio il salire un monte di sabbia, lo è all'uomo tranquillo una donna linguacciuta.
	28 Non badare alla beltà della donna, e non desiderare la donna per la sua bellezza.
	29 Grande è l'ira della donna, e l'inverecondia, e la ignominia.
	30 Se la donna ha il comando, è ribelle al marito.
	31 La mala donna affligge il cuore, attrista il volto, e impiaga il cuor del marito.
	32 La donna, che non fa il marito felice, gli snerva le braccia, e gli indebolisce le ginocchia.
	33 Dalla donna ebbe principio il peccato, e per lei muojamo tutti.
	34 Non lasciare un foro nemmen piccolo alla tua acqua, né alla donna malvagia la permissione di andar fuori.
	35 Se ella non cammina sotto la tua direzione, ella ti svergognerà in faccia a' tuoi nemici.
	36 Separala dal tuo convitto, affinchè non si prenda sempre giuoco di te.
