Sirach 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 An idler is like a stone covered in filth, everyone whistles at his disgrace.	1 - A una pietra lordata è simile il pigro, e ognuno sibilerò sulla sua ignominia.
2 An idler is like a lump of dung, anyone picking it up shakes it off his hand.	2 Allo sterco del letamaio è simile il pigro, e chiunque lo tocchi, scuoterò la mano.
3 It is a disgrace to have fathered a badly brought-up son, but the birth of any daughter is a loss;	3 Vergogna del padre è un figliuolo maleducato, e una figlia [simile] gli è di danno.
4 a sensible daughter wil find a husband, but a shameless one is a grief to her father.	4 Una figliuola prudente è un'eredità per il suo marito, ma quella che reca disdoro, è obbrobrio [e afflizione] del genitore.
5 A brazen daughter puts father and mother to shame, and wil be disowned by both.	5 Al padre e al marito reca disdoro la sfrontata, e non la cede in nulla agli empi! e da entrambi sarò disprezzata.
6 An untimely remonstrance is like music at a funeral, but a thrashing and correction are wisdom at altimes.	6 [Qual] musica nel lutto è una spiegazione inopportuna; ma la sferza e la disciplina son saviezza in ogni tempo.
7	7 Chi istruisce uno stolto è come chi incolla un vaso di terra;
8	8 chi parla a chi non ascolta è come chi sveglia un dormiente da un sonno profondo.
9 Teaching a fool is like gluing bits of pottery together -- you are rousing someone who is besotted withsleep.	9 Con un dormiente ragiona, chi spiega allo stolto la sapienza; e alla fine del discorso questi dirò: «Che cosa è?».
10 You might as wel talk to someone sound asleep; when you have finished the fool will say, 'What'sup?'	10 Piangi sur un morto, perchè s'è spenta la sua luce; e piangi sur uno stolto, perchè se n'è andato via il senno.
11 Shed tears for the dead, who has left the light behind; shed tears for the fool, who has left his witsbehind. Shed quieter tears for the dead who is at rest, for the fool life is worse than death.	11 Ma piangi più moderatamente sul morto, perchè ha trovato riposo:
12 Mourning for the dead lasts seven days, for the foolish and ungodly al the days of their lives.	12 la vita dello stolto è peggiore della morte.
13 Do not waste many words on the stupid, do not go near a dolt. Beware of him, or you wil have troubleand be soiled by contact with him; keep away from him, and you will have peace of mind and not be exasperatedby his fol y.	13 Il lutto per un morto [dura] sette giorni, ma quello per lo stolto e per l'empio tutti i giorni della loro vita.
14 What is heavier than lead, and what is its name if not 'fool'?	14 Non parlar molto con l'insensato, e non andar con l'insipiente.
15 Sand and salt and a lump of iron are a lighter burden than a dolt.	15 Guardati da lui per non aver molestie, e per non insudiciarti del suo peccato.
16 A tie-beam bonded into a building will not be dislodged by an earthquake; so too, a heart resolvedafter due reflection will not flinch at the critical moment.	16 Sfuggilo, e troverai riposo, e non proverai dispiacere per la sua follia.
17 A heart founded on intel igent reflection is like a stucco decoration on a smooth wall.	17 Che c'è di più pesante del piombo? e quale è il suo nome, se non « stolto »?
18 Pebbles placed on top of a wal wil not stand up to the wind; no more can the heart of a fool frightenedat his own thoughts stand up to fear.	18 L'arena, il sale, una massa di ferro son più facili a portarsi, che l'uomo insipiente e stolto ed empio.
19 Prick an eye and you wil draw a tear, prick a heart and you reveal its feelings.	19 Un'armatura di legname ben costrutta attorno a un edificio, non si sconquassa [per una scossa violenta]:
20 Throw stones at birds and you scare them away, reproach a friend and you destroy a friendship.	20 il proponimento d'un uomo sensato, non sarà mai abbattuto dal timore.
21 If you have drawn your sword on a friend, do not despair; there is a way back.	21 Come una palizzata In altura e il muro a secco non resistono in faccia al vento;
22 If you have opened your mouth against your friend, do not worry; there is hope for reconciliation; butinsult, arrogance, betrayal of secrets, and the stab in the back -- in these cases any friend is lost.	22 cosi anche il cuor timido, in un proposito stolto, non resisterà all' impeto del timore.
23 Win your neighbour's confidence when he is poor, so that you may enjoy his later good fortune withhim; stand by him in times of trouble, in order to have your share when he comes into a legacy.	23 Come il cuor pavido in un proposito sciocco mai non teme, cosi chi sta saldo ne' precetti di Dio [teme] sempre.
24 Fire is heralded by the reek of the furnace and smoke, so too, bloodshed by insults.	24 Chi urta l'occhio, fa uscir lagrime, e chi urta un cuore, ne cava il [ri] sentimento.
25 I shal not be ashamed to shelter a friend nor shal I hide away from him,	25 Chi lancia un sasso contro gli uccelli, li mette in fuga; cosi chi rinfaccia all'amico, scioglie l'amicizia.
26 and if evil comes to me through him, everyone who hears about it will beware of him.	26 Contro l'amico se tu abbia sguainato la spada, non disperare: è possibile il ritorno. Contro l'amico
27 Who wil set a guard on my mouth, and an efficient seal on my lips, to keep me from fal ing, and mytongue from causing my ruin?	27 se tu abbia aperto con asprezza la bocca, non temere: è possibile la riconciliazione. Eccetto però l'insulto e il rimbrotto e il superbo disprezzo, la rivelazione del segreto e la botta a tradimento: per tutte queste cose sen fugge ogni amico.
	28 Mantieni fede all'amico nella sua povertà, perchè anche della sua prosperità tu possa godere.
	29 Nel tempo della sua tribolazione restagli fedele, affinchè anche alla sua eredità tu abbia parte.
	30 Prima del fuoco, s'alza il vapor della fornace e il fumo: cosi prima del sangue [corrono] gl'improperi, gli oltraggi e le minacce.
	31 Di protegger l'amico non avrò vergogna, nè mi nasconderò alla sua vista: e se male m'incoglierà por colpa sua lo sopporterò,
	32 chiunque venga a saperlo, si guarderà da lui.
	33 Chi metterà una guardia alla mia bocca, e un sigillo sicuro sulle mie labbra, perchè io non cada per cagion loro, e la mìa lingua non mi mandi in rovina?
