NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 On my bed at night I sought the man who is my sweetheart: I sought but could not find him!	1 על משכבי בלילות בקשתי את שאהבה נפשי בקשתיו ולא מצאתיו
2 So I shal get up and go through the city; in the streets and in the squares, I shall seek my sweetheart. Isought but could not find him!	2 אקומה נא ואסובבה בעיר בשוקים וברחבות אבקשה את שאהבה נפשי בקשתיו ולא מצאתיו
3 I came upon the watchmen -- those who go on their rounds in the city: 'Have you seen my sweetheart?'	3 מצאוני השמרים הסבבים בעיר את שאהבה נפשי ראיתם
4 Barely had I passed them when I found my sweetheart. I caught him, would not let him go, not til I hadbrought him to my mother's house, to the room where she conceived me!	4 כמעט שעברתי מהם עד שמצאתי את שאהבה נפשי אחזתיו ולא ארפנו עד שהביאתיו אל בית אמי ואל חדר הורתי
5 LOVER: I charge you, daughters of Jerusalem, by gazel es and wild does, do not rouse, do not wake mybeloved before she pleases.	5 השבעתי אתכם בנות ירושלם בצבאות או באילות השדה אם תעירו ואם תעוררו את האהבה עד שתחפץ
6 POET: What is this coming up from the desert like a column of smoke, breathing of myrrh andfrankincense and every exotic perfume?	6 מי זאת עלה מן המדבר כתימרות עשן מקטרת מור ולבונה מכל אבקת רוכל
7 Here comes Solomon's litter. Around it are sixty champions, the flower of the warriors of Israel;	7 הנה מטתו שלשלמה ששים גברים סביב לה מגברי ישראל
8 al of them skil ed swordsmen, expert in war. Each man has his sword at his side, against alarms bynight.	8 כלם אחזי חרב מלמדי מלחמה איש חרבו על ירכו מפחד בלילות
9 King Solomon has had a palanquin made of wood from Lebanon.	9 אפריון עשה לו המלך שלמה מעצי הלבנון
10 He has had the posts made of silver, the canopy of gold, the seat of purple; the centre is inlaid withebony.	10 עמודיו עשה כסף רפידתו זהב מרכבו ארגמן תוכו רצוף אהבה מבנות ירושלם
11 Daughters of Zion, come and see King Solomon, wearing the diadem with which his mother crownedhim on his wedding day, on the day of his heart's joy.	11 צאינה וראינה בנות ציון במלך שלמה בעטרה שעטרה לו אמו ביום חתנתו וביום שמחת לבו
