NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Who compares with the sage? Who else knows how to explain things? Wisdom lights up the face,enlivening a grim expression.	1 ¿Quién es como el sabio y quién sabe interpretar los hechos? La sabiduría de un hombre ilumina su rostro, y así se transforma la aspereza de su semblante.
2 Obey the king's command and, because of the divine promise,	2 Observa la orden del rey y esto, a causa del juramento hecho a Dios.
3 be in no hurry to depart from it; do not be obstinate in a bad cause, since the king wil do as he likes inany case.	3 No te apresures a retirarte de su presencia ni te obstines en nada malo, porque él hace lo que quiere:
4 Since the word of a king is sovereign, what is the point of saying, 'Why do that?'	4 la palabra del rey es soberana y nadie puede decirle: «¿Qué haces?».
5 One who obeys the command will come to no harm; the heart of the sage knows the right moment andverdict,	5 El que observa el mandamiento no experimenta ningún mal, y el corazón del sabio sabe que hay un tiempo y un juicio.
6 for there is a right moment and verdict for everything; but misfortune lies heavy upon anyone	6 Para cada cosa, en efecto, hay un tiempo y un juicio; pero un gran mal pesa sobre el hombre,
7 who does not know what the outcome wil be, no one is going to say how things wil turn out.	7 y es que él ignora lo que va a suceder, porque ¿quién le indicará cómo será eso?
8 No one can control the wind and stop it from blowing, no one can control the day of death. From warthere is no escape, no more can wickedness save the person who commits it.	8 Ningún hombre es dueño del aliento vital, para poder retenerlo, y nadie tiene dominio sobre el día de la muerte; no hay tregua en este combate y la maldad no librará al que la comete.
9 I have seen al this to be so, having careful y studied everything taking place under the sun, while oneperson tyrannises over another to the former's detriment.	9 Esto es lo que vi cuando presté atención a todo lo que se hace bajo el sol, mientras un hombre domina a otro para hacerle el mal.
10 And again, I have observed the wicked carried to their graves, and people leaving the holy place and,once out in the city, forgetting how the wicked used to behave; how futile this is too!	10 Así, yo vi a hombres malvados que eran sepultados honrosamente: ellos partieron del Lugar santo, y en la ciudad se olvidaba cómo habían obrado. También esto es vanidad.
11 Because the sentence on the evil-doer is not carried out on the instant, people's hearts are ful ofdesire to do wrong.	11 Como la sentencia contra las malas acciones no se ejecuta inmediatamente, el corazón de los seres humanos se llena de deseos de hacer el mal.
12 The sinner who does wrong a hundred times lives on. But this too I know, that there is good in store forpeople who fear God, because they fear him,	12 El pecador que hace cien veces el mal puede, a pesar de todo, vivir largo tiempo. Sin embargo, yo sé muy bien que la felicidad es para los que temen a Dios, porque ellos sienten temor en su presencia.
13 but there is no good in store for the wicked because he does not fear God, and so, like a shadow, hewil not prolong his days.	13 Pero no habrá felicidad para el malvado: él, como una sombra no vivirá largamente, porque no tiene temor de Dios.
14 Another futile thing that happens on earth: upright people being treated as though they were wickedand wicked people being treated as though they were upright. To me this is one more example of futility.	14 Hay una cosa vana que acontece sobre la tierra; a algunos justos le sucede lo que corresponde a la manera de obrar de los malvados, y a algunos malvados les sucede lo que corresponde a la manera de obrar de los justos. Yo digo que también esto es vanidad.
15 And therefore I praise joy, since human happiness lies only in eating and drinking and in takingpleasure; this comes from what someone achieves during the days of life that God gives under the sun.	15 Por eso, elogié la alegría, ya que lo único bueno para el hombre bajo el sol es comer, beber, y sentirse contento: esto es lo que le sirve de compañía en sus esfuerzos mientras duran los días de su vida, que Dios le concede bajo el sol.
16 Having applied myself to acquiring wisdom and to observing the activity taking place in the world -- forday and night our eyes enjoy no rest-	16 Cuando me dediqué a conocer la sabiduría y a ver la tarea que se realiza bajo el sol, sin que los ojos se entreguen al sueño ni de día ni de noche,
17 I have scrutinised God's whole creation: you cannot get to the bottom of everything taking place underthe sun; you may wear yourself out in the search, but you wil never find it. Not even a sage can get to thebottom of it, even if he says that he has done so.	17 entonces yo vi toda la obra de Dios. El hombre no puede descubrir la obra que se hace bajo el sol. Por más que se esfuerce en buscar, no encuentra; y aunque el sabio diga que conoce, en realidad, nada puede descubrir.
