NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:	1 Non essere avventato nel parlare e il tuo cuore non abbia furia di proferir parole davanti a Dio. Dio è nel cielo e tu sei sulla terra, perciò sian pochi i tuoi discorsi.
2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.	2 Dai molti affanni vengono i sogni e nei molti discorsi si trova la stoltezza.
3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.	3 Se hai fatto a Dio qualche voto, non ritardarne l'adempimento, perchè a lui dispiace la bugiarda e stolta promessa. Tu mantieni quanto hai promesso con voto;
4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.	4 perchè è molto meglio non far voti, che, fatto il voto, non adempire quanto si è promesso.
5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?	5 Non permettere alla tua bocca di renderti colpevole, e non dire dinanzi all'angelo: « Non ci fu avvertenza », chè Dio, sdegnato per le tue parole, non distrugga tutte le opere delle tue mani.
6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.	6 Dove ci sono molti sogni, vi son moltissime vanità e chiacchiere senza numero; ma tu temi Dio.
7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .	7 Se vedrai oppressi i miserabili e violato il diritto e la giustizia a rovescio nel paese, non ti meravigliare di ciò, perchè chi sta in alto ci ha un altro più alto di lui, e sopra questi ve ne sono altri ancora più in alto,
8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.	8 e di più v'è il re che comanda a tutta la terra a lui soggetta.
9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.	9 L'avaro non sarà mai sazio di danaro, e chi ama le ricchezze non ne caverà alcun frutto. Anche questo è vanità.
10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?	10 Dove son molte ricchezze, vi sono anche molti a mangiarle, e che utile ne ha il padrone, oltre quello di starle a guardare coi propri occhi?
11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .	11 Dolce è il sonno del lavoratore, poco o molto ch'ei mangi; ma la sazietà non lascia dormire il ricco.
12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.	12 C'è anche un altro disgraziatissimo guaio che io ho visto sotto il sole: le ricchezze accumulate a rovina del loro padrone.
13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.	13 Se ne vanno in fumo per terribile sventura; egli ha messo al mondo un figlio che sarà in estrema miseria;
14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.	14 come nudo è uscito dal seno della madre, così nudo vi ritornerà, e di tutte le sue fatiche non porterà seco niente.
15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,	15 Miseria certo degna di compassione! Come venne, così partirà. E che gli giova l'essersi affaticato per del vento?
16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.	16 Per tutti i giorni della sua vita egli mangiò tra le tenebre, tra molti affanni, nell'angustia, nella tristezza.
17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.	17 Quindi mi sembra bene che uno mangi e beva e goda con gioia i frutti della sua fatica, che ha sopportata sotto il sole per tutti i giorni della sua vita, assegnatigli da Dio. E questa è la sua sorte.
18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.	18 Or quando Dio dà a un uomo ricchezze e beni, gli dà anche facoltà di mangiarne, di goderne la sua parte, di gioire del frutto del suo lavoro: questo è dono di Dio.
19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.	19 Allora egli non si ricorderà troppo dei giorni della sua vita, perchè Dio gl'inonda il cuore di gioia.
