NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:	1 No te apures a abrir la boca y que tu corazón no se apresure a proferir una palabra delante de Dios. Porque Dios está en el cielo, y tú, sobre la tierra: sé parco en tus palabras,
2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.	2 ya que los sueños vienen de las muchas ocupaciones y las palabras necias, de hablar demasiado.
3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.	3 Si haces un voto a Dios, no tardes en cumplirlo, porque a él no le agradan los necios: el voto que hayas hecho, cúmplelo.
4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.	4 Más te vale no hacer un voto que hacerlo y no cumplirlo.
5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?	5 No dejes que tu boca te haga pecar, y no digas delante del mensajero de Dios: «Ha sido por inadvertencia». ¿Por qué Dios tendrá que irritarse contra tu palabra y arruinar la obra de tus manos?
6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.	6 Porque en los muchos sueños abundan las ilusiones y el palabrerío. Tú, simplemente, teme a Dios.
7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .	7 Si ves que en la provincia se oprime al pobre y se violan el derecho y la justicia, no te sorprendas por eso. Porque un grande tiene un superior que lo vigila, y hay otros grandes por encima de ellos.
8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.	8 De todas maneras, lo que más aprovecha a un país es un rey con campos bien cultivados.
9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.	9 El que ama el dinero no se sacia jamás, y al que ama la opulencia no le bastan sus ganancias. También esto es vanidad.
10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?	10 Donde abundan las provisiones son muchos los que las devoran. ¿Y qué beneficio reportan a su dueño, fuera de poder mirarlas con sus propios ojos?
11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .	11 Dulce es el sueño del trabajador, sea que coma poco o mucho; al rico, en cambio, el estómago lleno no lo deja dormir.
12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.	12 Hay un mal muy penoso que yo he visto bajo el sol: es la riqueza guardada por su dueño para su propia desgracia.
13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.	13 Esta riqueza se pierde en un mal negocio, y el hijo que él engendró se queda sin nada.
14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.	14 El salió desnudo del vientre de su madre, y así volverá, como había venido; de su esfuerzo no saca nada que pueda llevárselo consigo,
15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,	15 Este es ciertamente un mal muy penoso: se fue exactamente como había venido, ¿y de qué le aprovechó esforzarse por nada?
16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.	16 Además, todos sus días comió oscuramente, con mucho dolor, malestar e irritación.
17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.	17 Yo he comprobado esto: lo más conveniente es comer y beber y encontrar la felicidad en el esfuerzo que uno realiza bajo el sol, durante los contados días de vida que Dios le concede a cada uno: porque esta es la parte reservada a los hombres.
18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.	18 Además, si Dios ha dado a un hombre riquezas y posesiones, y le permite disfrutar de ellas, tomar la parte que le toca y alegrarse de su trabajo, ¡eso es un don de Dios!
19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.	19 No, él no piensa demasiado en la brevedad de la vida, cuando Dios lo tiene ocupado con pensamientos alegres.
