1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:	1 - Non essere avventato con la bocca, nè abbia fretta il tuo cuore di far parole al cospetto di Dio. Chè Dio è in cielo e tu sulla terra; perciò sian poche le tue parole.
2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.	2 Dalle molte sollecitudini nascono i sogni:[così] nelle molte parole si trova la stoltezza.
3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.	3 Quand'hai fatto voto a Dio, non tardare a compierlo, perchè dispiace a lui la promessa infedele e stolta: ciò che con voto hai promesso, mantienlo.
4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.	4 Molto meglio è non far voto, che farlo e poi non adempierlo.
5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?	5 Non soffrir che la tua bocca faccia peccar la tua carne, nè dir davanti all'angelo: «Non ci fu avvertenza»; per tema che Dio, sdegnato del tuo parlare, non distrugga tutta l'opera delle tue mani.
6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.	6 Perchè dove son molti sogni, molte son le vanità e infiniti i discorsi. Ma tu temi Iddio!
7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .	7 Se vedi l'oppressione del povero, e violati i giudizi e pervertita la giustizia in una provincia, non te ne stupire. Giacchè su chi sta in alto c'è un altro più alto, e altri ancor più eminenti sono su costoro;
8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.	8 il re finalmente comandaa tutto il paese soggetto.
9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.	9 L'avaro non sarà mai sazio di danaro, e chi agogna le ricchezze, non ne ricaverà provento. Anche questo è vanità!
10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?	10 Col crescer delle sostanze crescon quelli che ne mangiano: e qual vantaggio per il padrone, fuor che vederle con i suoi occhi?
11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .	11 Dolce è il sonno di chi lavora, mangi poco o molto; ma la sazietà del ricco non lo lascia dormire.
12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.	12 C'è un altro gravissimo male, che io vidi sotto il sole: le ricchezze conservate a proprio danno del possessore.
13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.	13 Periscon quelle ricchezze in qualche grave disastro: ha dato alla luce un figliuolo, che sarà in estrema miseria.
14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.	14 Come nudo uscì dal seno di sua madre, così nudo se ne tornerà via, e nulla porterà con sè del suo lavoro.
15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,	15 Male davvero compassionevole questo: com' è venuto, così se n'andrà! Qual vantaggio per lui l'aver gettato le sue fatiche al vento?
16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.	16 Tutti i giorni di sua vita ha mangiato nelle tenebre, e tra molti affanni, nell'infelicità e nella tristezza.
17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.	17 Ecco pertanto quel che mi parve bene: che uno mangi e beva e goda benessereper la fatica con cui si travaglia sotto il sole, ne' giorni di sua vita concessigli da Dio. E questa è la sua parte.
18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.	18 E a chiunque Dio ha largito ricchezze e beni, e concesso facoltà di fruirne e averne la sua parte, e di goder del suo lavoro, gli è questo un dono di Dio.
19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.	19 Non molto, infatti, egli penserà a' giorni di sua vita, perchè Iddio ricolma di delizie il suo cuore.
