NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:	1 Quando parli davanti a Dio, non avere fretta con la tua bocca e non essere precipitoso, perché Dio sta in cielo e tu sulla terra. Per questo siano poche le tue parole.
2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.	2 Infatti quando ci si dà troppo da fare, nascono i sogni, quando si parla troppo viene il discorso stolto.
3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.	3 Perciò, quando fai un voto a Dio, non tardare a scioglierlo, perché egli non è benevolo con gli stolti: il voto che fai, compilo.
4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.	4 Meglio non fare voti, che farli e non scioglierli.
5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?	5 Non permettere alla tua lingua di farti peccare e non dire mai davanti al rappresentante di Dio che si trattava di una promessa fatta a cuor leggero; che Dio non si abbia ad adirare per quello che hai detto e non distrugga ciò che hai realizzato col tuo lavoro.
6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.	6 Quando si moltiplicano i sogni e le cose senza senso, lì abbondano le parole; ma tu temi Dio.
7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .	7 Se vedi nello stato l'oppressione del povero, il diritto e la giustizia conculcati, non ti stupire della cosa, perché un funzionario è sopra un altro funzionario e lo sorveglia, e sopra tutti e due vi sono altri funzionari ancora.
8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.	8 Il vantaggio del paese viene visto nel suo insieme e il re è servito in funzione del paese.
9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.	9 Chi ama il denaro, non si sazia di denaro, chi è attaccato alle ricchezze, non trova entrata sufficiente. Anche questo è vanità.
10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?	10 Quando le ricchezze aumentano, crescono anche quelli che le divorano e che vantaggio ne ha il proprietario, se non quello di sapere di essere ricco?
11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .	11 Il sonno di chi lavora è dolce, sia che mangi poco sia che mangi molto, mentre la sazietà del ricco non gli permette di dormire.
12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.	12 Un altro brutto guaio ho visto sotto il sole: una ricchezza che il proprietario sa conservare, ma a suo danno.
13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.	13 Quel patrimonio è andato in rovina per un cattivo affare e nelle mani del figlio che aveva generato non è restato nulla;
14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.	14 nudo come è uscito dal ventre di sua madre, così se ne tornerà come è venuto, senza aver ricavato nulla dalle sue fatiche da portare con sé.
15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,	15 Anche questo è un brutto guaio: come uno è venuto, così se ne va. E che vantaggio gli resta dall'aver faticato per nulla?
16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.	16 E in più ha vissuto tutti i suoi giorni nella tenebra: si è annoiato molto, ha avuto guai e arrabbiature.
17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.	17 Ecco in che ho capito che consiste il bene dell'uomo: consiste nel mangiare, nel bere e nel vedere il successo di tutta la fatica con cui egli si affatica sotto il sole nei giorni contati della sua vita che Dio gli ha concesso; ché questo è ciò che gli tocca.
18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.	18 E c'è anche questo da dire, che se Dio concede all'uomo ricchezze abbondanti, di poterne godere, prenderne la propria parte e godere della propria fatica, questo è dono di Dio.
19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.	19 Così l'uomo non pensa troppo alla sua vita che passa, perché Dio lo tiene occupato con la gioia del suo cuore.
