NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:	1 Ne légy száddal elhamarkodott, és ne siessen szíved, hogy kimondd Isten színe előtt a szót, mert Isten a mennyben van, te pedig a földön; ezért kevésbeszédű légy!
2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.	2 A sok gondot álmok követik, és a sok szóbeszédben balgaság van.
3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.	3 Ha fogadtál valamit Istennek, ne késs azt megadni, mert nem tetszik neki a meg nem tartott, felelőtlen ígéret. Bármit fogadsz is, add meg!
4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.	4 Sokkal jobb nem tenni fogadást, mintsem megfogadni valamit, és az ígéretet nem teljesíteni.
5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?	5 Ne engedd, hogy szád bűnbe vigyen téged, és ne mondd Isten küldöttje előtt: »Nem gondoltam meg!«, hogy Isten beszéded miatt haragra ne gerjedjen, és meg ne hiúsítsa kezed minden munkáját.
6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.	6 Mert ahol sok az álom, sok a hiúság is, és sok a szóbeszéd; te pedig féld az Istent!
7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .	7 Ha látod, hogy elnyomják a szegényeket, tiporják a törvényt, és felforgatják a jogot a tartományban, ne csodálkozz rajta, hiszen az egyik nagy ember fölött van egy másik nagy ember, és fölöttük vannak mások, akik még nagyobbak.
8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.	8 Legfelül pedig a király parancsol az egész alatta levő országnak.
9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.	9 Aki pénzre éhes, nem telik be pénzzel, s aki szereti a gazdagságot, nem veszi annak hasznát; ez is csak hiúság!
10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?	10 Ahol nagy a vagyon, sokan vannak, akik fogyasztják, és mi egyéb haszna van birtokosának, mint hogy a gazdagságot szemével nézheti!
11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .	11 Édes az álom a munkásnak, akár keveset eszik, akár sokat, a gazdagot ellenben bősége nem engedi nyugodtan aludni.
12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.	12 Van még egy keserves nyomorúság, amelyet a nap alatt láttam: a gazdagság, amelyet birtokosa a saját vesztére tartogat.
13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.	13 Az ilyennek vagyona ugyanis nagy csapás folytán tönkremegy, és ha fia született, az végső ínségre jut.
14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.	14 Amint mezítelenül jött ki anyja méhéből, úgy megy el innen, és semmit sem visz magával abból, amit fáradsággal szerzett.
15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,	15 Már az is keserves nyomorúság, hogy amint jött, úgy is kell elmennie. Mit használ tehát neki, hogy szelet hajszolt?
16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.	16 Hozzá még az, hogy élete minden napján sötétben költi el ételét, sok gondban, nyomorúságban és bánatban.
17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.	17 Azt találtam tehát helyesnek, hogy mindenki egyék, igyék, és élvezze az örömet fáradsága mellett, amellyel a nap alatt küszködik élete megszámlált napjain, amelyeket Isten neki adott, mivel ez jutott neki osztályrészül.
18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.	18 Sőt, ha Isten bárkinek vagyont és kincset ad, és megengedi, hogy kivegye a részét belőle, élvezze és gyönyörűségét találja fáradsága gyümölcsében, ez Isten ajándéka.
19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.	19 Nem gondol ugyanis az ilyen sokat élete napjaival, mert Isten a szívét a gyönyörökkel tölti el.
